Even if the opposing team is at the one yard line, the defense has to find a way to force a field goal. 81.8% of the time that the opposing team gets in the redzone against us, they score (FG or TD). We've got to get that percentage lower.
Where did you get that 81.8% statistic from? Most red zone scoring % stats I see DO NOT include FG's... The max distance of a FG when the team was in the red zone is 37 yards, which most kickers can make nearly 80-90% of the time nowadays. If your stat includes FG's, then I say 81.8% is not all that bad a number, especially when we compare it with some of the other schools in the Big South, who haven't played the level of competition we have this season.
Up to this point, I think it can be argued that of all our peers in the BSC, we have had the hardest schedule by far... You all can say what you want about the win over App St. being ugly, but to go somewhere else and win a game like that the way we did is a huge positive for our program. Especially when you consider the injuries at LB that we have. App St. may be having a down year, but they are not that far removed from having a pretty great program and they do have far more scholarships to spread around now than we do.
No doubt that CSU and CCU will be tough games this year. However, we have some good things going for us right now that are positive signs for the remainder of the season... Woodrum is playing some really well lately. His touch on the deep ball the past two games against pretty good competition has been on point. Also, it seems as though the WR's showed some fortitude and corrected the drop issues they had in previous games. Catching the ball the way they did at App St... under the lights and in the mist is good.
