So once cold weather hits, you don't think we'll see classy Coach Gill in a an old gray sweatshirt and a toboggan ski cap?

No one has asked this yet, but would Aldreakis Allen have made the difference, had he not been suspended? Could we have won the game with Allen giving SirChauncey a breather?

On a side note, dancing boy James D. Black is boasting on Facebook that LU could beat the Florida Gators in football.

Enjoyed being at the game last night, just watching it on ESPN3; couple of observations:

1. We started inside the 15 much of the night; our composure and play with our backs against the endzone was strong. Hudson's awareness in the pocket was notable.

2. The number of players we rotated in and got production out of was encouraging (on offense and defense)

3. We had some great opportunities to recover fumbles .. and we were fortunate not to fumble when we ran the option

4. It seemed like our running game was stronger as the night went on; but we backed away from the run late in the 4th

5. I'm a huge fan of our defense; love the discipline and the absence of personal fouls, played fast and physical.

6. The Wake fans were super friendly; the stadium was nice, but they need to come up to Lynchburg to see what an entrance looks like and experience a packed house of fans.

7. Elliott Dutra emerged, and i suspect Justin Gunn will have a breakout year as well.

8. Lunsford came out swinging! Hoping we'll see a 60-yard field goal before the year is over.

We have work to do, but it was an encouraging start to the Gill era. Disappointed for our guys not to come away with a win - but, loved the way they represented Liberty. Cannot wait for the home opener. Continue to talk with folks in the community that are planning to come to LU Football games this year (many of them for the first time).

A lot of respect from the Wake folks -

PS - These videos play on iPhones. Someone needs to tell our website people we need QuickTime plugins not IE plugins. Anyone know someone in the web department to work on this? If Wake can do this we should be able to as well. Having videos that play on the worlds best selling smart phone is just logical.

Id like to note logic that I wasnt a big fan of your comment to "get off the boards" to people that expected Wake to trounce us. As someone who has made that mistake myself (though not using those words exactly), it made me cringe and hopefully you can learn to dial it back a few notches.

Even though i had made WAKE my enemy for the day, I don't think we could have asked for a better place for the injury to have happened while at a road game. my wife rode in the ambulance with nick, i was driven to my vehicle in a patrol car lights and sirens blaring. i assumed they were just gonna block traffic so i could get out of the lot and get to the hospital, but these cats gave me a police escort all the way to the hospital. so a tip of the cap and a great big thank you to LU's doctors and staff, WAKES doctors and the WINSTON SALEM POLICE!
I thought I saw your van pass us. My friends and I were praying for Nick when we saw that.

New guy thoughts. I am in total agreement that the defense looked pretty nasty most of the game. We expected it to be good, and it exceeded expectations. On offense, Hudson really impressed me with his poise. I think that bodes very well. I expect the accuracy to improve and timing with the receivers to make big strides by the time we hit conference play. One thing that I don't think has been mentioned was the one carry that D.J Abnar got. He took one carry on the left side (I believe) and showed a serious speed burst to get up field in traffic. I look forward to having Allen back and seeing what a full compliment of running backs can do to help balance the attack. Holloway did a good job carrying the load, though.

Already met...like I said (in case you were reading a little closer), I have made that mistake myself before, and it made me cringe to see someone else doing the same thing. I dont want to be seen as a person who would drive away someone who could be a very meaningful contributor to the board. Im still gonna be a fan (and at times defender) of my alma mater, but Im gonna try and keep my comments to a (as PH noted) mellower tone most of the time.

The facts we kept it close for the entire game proves we haven't lost much in the coaching/players changes. That is good news and nothing to be ashamed of.

I am disappointed because would should have won the game, but also excited, because I honestly was thinking 7-4 at best this season, but probably 6-5....now I think we will compete at a much higher level then I expected.
To early to judge the Wake team. We had to block a fg in the last seconds to beat an 0-12 Duke 13-12 after they came off a 13-0 loss to Richmond in 06. We won the ACC that year and went to the orange bowl. Wisconsin struggled to hold on against Norther Iowa. Wake has these games occasionally. We play UNC and FSU the next saturday if we get destroyed in both we will be terrible. If we lose both keeping it close we will be a 6-6 team. If we split 8-4.

I am a life long Wake fan and season ticket holder and Liberty student. I was pleasantly surprised with the flames performance, but disappointed in Wakes and I hope it is an indication of how good LU will be.

Can't wait till you are an LU alum and then a group of us corner you and make you change your "lifelong" fandom to Flames all the way.

Hudson is the man.

Our RB's did a nice job getting to the edge of some stretch plays.

Hudson's INT was coming the whole way. Roll a righty to his left and he has only two options on that side. But I don't mind it as much because I felt like he had confidence to try to squeeze it in there. Oh well. Is rather an INT tring to do a little too much than floating or being foolish. He also doesn't have the deep out. That was evident in fourth quarter.

Liberty has talent, but the coaches - WHOA! Drastically different staff. Great adjustments throughout, very solid game management. Whoever mentioned in game thread something about poor clock management at end of first has lost their mind. It was smart to ensure the half ends with a FG attempt.

Lastly, I keep reading some on here call Wake a "solid FBS team" or the "best defense we'll face all year. Neither is true. Being FBS or in the ACC doesn't make a team elite. Wake is bad. Takes nothing away from Liberty's effort tonight, but Wake is a bad team in a weak football league.
Sorry but being a Wake fan and Liberty student I have the right and obligation to tell you you are completely wrong. Wake does have the best D you will play all year and an FCS league calling the ACC bad is just ludicrous. Wake is always a middle of the road ACC team with sometimes a good season and sometimes a bad season and right now it is too early to tell. We have a terrible OL who has played a grand total of 14 snaps going into the game. I think we will be a better team the second half of the season than the first. But our D is legit out O just couldn't help them out with rest, possession, and field position. We where without our All ACC CB and a new starting S both positions responsible for most of the big passing plays.

We have to wait a few games to judge anyone it is to early right now. Is #12 Wisconsin terrible because they almost lost to Northern Iowa, is Oklahoma terrible because they struggled with UTEP. I think your underselling both the Flames and WFU. You WILL NOT play a better team or better coach this year.

I am an adult student at 34 graduating this May. I will always pull for the Flames, but it will be difficult to sway my loyalty to Wake. I started buying season tickets with allowance and yard mowing money at 13 and use to have my parents drop me off to sit on the Wake hill even if no one would come with me. I love my Deacs. Before Grobe got to Wake we were historically the 2nd worst FBS program. Since then in 12 seasons Grobe has taken us to 8 bowls we have been to 12 total in our over 100 year history. We have beaten FSU 4 of the last 6 and we are the only team in NC to win the ACC in the last 30 years I believe.

I couldn't understand why this was happening. Especially that last drive. There was tons of time left but at the same time you knew it was our last possession which means you knew we had 4 downs to get a 1st. Holloway was starting to really get it going. Any type of running would have really kept their D honest, and at the right moment a draw could have been a home run.

Scoreboards typically do not mess up. People operating scoreboards mess up.

jamesda3asu - If you get a chance to catch a home game in Lynchburg, you're placement of the Flames on your personal pecking order may be adjusted.

I don't like quite a bit of the Wake fans they are a wine and cheese crowd. Many times I have gotten yelled at for standing up cheering. A lot of Wake people don't come out or stay in rain and don't come in until after the 1st quarter especially in games like this. Next week for UNC the place will be rocking though.

I plan on coming up to Liberty for a game this year.

1 guy is out on defense and that was why they gave up so many yards?

We were without our 2nd best lineman (center), starting RB, leading tackler and the QB of the defense for most of the game. Arguably 2 of the most important guys on both sides of the ball in that they help getting the line and defense set.

It's called injuries and they happen, you better have depth or adjust. ALL 3 of the big passing plays wake got was Jacob Hagen being burnt (a new full time player).

Totally agree about the extra scholarships. Would love to see the added depth it would bring.
