Who said everything is peachy keen? Certainly not me.
Purple Haize wrote:I re read the game thread and saw one of the quotes you referenced, and I did miss it the first time, and one that was sorta close but nothing else. To be positive, I will say I like both play by play guys.
You may be right. I may be alone in thinking I would feel better about our chances next week had we blown out VMI. To me it would have made the Presby win look good. As it is, instead of answering a por performance with a great one, we put up a second poor performance which could be considered a trend
As for negativity after a win, I have a sneaking suspicion the football staff wasn't doing cartwheels after this one. And check out an LSU board today...we are downright jolly comparatively !
I understand you, and others don't like Ray. That's fine. No biggie. I could care less. What's the need of going on page after page during a game thread about how bad he is? We get the point after the first 50 posts. And the personal shots are over the top.

Sure I'd feel a lot better if we blew through these last 2 teams, but maybe us not playing well and still winning will be a positive for the team. Maybe they'll have more of a chip on their shoulder.
SuperJon wrote:If Rocco isn't happy with the way the team has played for two weeks then why do the "true fans" have to be completely happy with everything.
I'm not completely happy. I don't expect every one to be completely happy.
ToTheLeft wrote:The same people who are happy with barely beating VMI and PC are the same ones who constantly say "When are we going to leave the Big South, we're too good for the Big South!"
Don't understand this argument. The first part has nothing to do with the 2nd part. And again, I never said I was happy.
bigsmooth wrote:Though i agree with manson, this is a public forum for people to voice their opinions, so if im you JC, just foe those people. There will always be a segment of fans that are kool-aid drinkers, never satisfied, and those in the middle. I am not pleased with the way we have played the last two games, but we step up and get it done. Good teams do that. We are a good football team, but at times have not played to our potential and that is indeed disappointing. We lost to two ranked teams by a total of three points and arguably could have beaten NCSU. Yeah, i know if's and but's but this team can still make the playoffs for the first time and has enough talent to make a deep run. So now its time to put all the bickering aside and get ready for Stonybrook. We have an extra week to prep to slow their running game and to get healthy. As for the game VMI threw all they could at us and we withstood it all. Our defense really needs to pick it up though, but i just have a gut feeling that the bye week is coming at the right time. GO FLAMES!
Thanks smooth, good points.

I think it's fine being concerned, nervous for this SBU game. I am. I think it's fine to be disappointed with the way we played for the majority of the last 2 games. Some of the other garbage posted on here is what I'm not fine with. If you don't understand that go back and read the majority of the game threads from the last 2 games.

JC you do like to back track. You have basically agreed that we ARE on the same page. We all would have liked to see us win big the last few games and because we sisnt we are now more nervous. We all agree that the whole season comes down to SBU. What you don't like is people saying they are worried and why.
As for the announcers, I am glad you have room to care :D I don't see anything I said as taking a personal shot, and if you don't like the comments, skip em. But I did find it funny we kept hearing about #25 being from South Hill! And I'm sure when he listens to the broadcast he will feel the same way.

What again did I back track on?

I'm not any more nervous today than I was last week or in September or in August. I'm fine with people saying they're worried and why. I don't like people who ONLY post negative comments. It's almost like they're pulling for us to lose or would be happier if we did. I certainly know people who claim to be LU "fans" who would certainly be fine if we lost, maybe even happy. Of course they would never openly admit it. Well maybe TBGB would.

And I didn't think anything you said about Ray was wrong. I already quoted some of what I thought was over the top. None of those were your quotes. Don't get your pannies in a wad.

And no it wasn't a "great point" TTL. It doesn't make sense.

Yes, it does. It's okay to struggle with these terrible teams, but we're too good for their conference and need to get out ASAP?

When's the last time App had trouble with WCU?

That's fair, although You are assuming I WEAR underwire let alone panties!
Let me ask you this: do you think the tone on this board would be more upbeat had we blown out VMI let Lone VMI and PC? I certainly think so.

TTL. Still a great point

I honestly think both sides have very good points here in this debate. But neither side will ever change. The argument could just go on and on. It's all about perspective. I didn't see the same team as I did against PC last week. I saw a Liberty team this week that got VMI's absolute best shot, and was still able to bring home the victory.

Inglorious? Perhaps. Still a win? Absolutely.

In 2009, at home, 19-14. WCU was 2-9 that year.

And for every App, I can give you a Montana - who not only struggled with Sac State, but lost! Oh and that 28-24 blowout of Northern Arizona! Or in 2009, when they went to the national championship game after "struggling" with 1-10 Idaho State 12-10.

And those teams don't have as many opportunities to "struggle" with teams in conference as we do. They have 1, maybe 2 games where it would be seen as a "struggle" if they didn't win by 20+. We have at least 4.

Of course it would, but certain people wouldn't be posting if that was the case.

Anytime you have a team that rarely plays to its potential, these conflicts will happen. We have a very good team here.....we just want to see it every once in a while! I dont know about you, but as a fan I'd rather watch a less talented team that comes prepared and plays hard every week.

Either way, we have a great shot at the playoffs in two weeks. All the inconsistencies, all the eggs, and all this flat play will be forgotten if we beat Stony Brook.

The game had no meaning. Very stale play calling , by design, I assume. We won.

I don't post much, but love to read the comments on here. There are some funny personalities who post and anyone who loves sarcastic humor, will get a weekly laugh. It's very entertaining and seems to be a great outlet for passionate fans to share their emotional reactions in the heat of the games. The game threads are filled with those types of posts.

Over the years, the posting pattern is pretty consistent. When the Flames dominate, the bloggers love everything (the uniforms, the band, the PA announcer, the TV broadcast, the team's training staff, even life itself). However, when the team is not playing at 100% efficiency or at the expected level for at least 95% of the game, the pattern is to start attacking everything (color of the uniforms, the way the wind is blowing the flags, how bad the fall leaves look on the video stream, what the announcers are saying, how bad the refs are, the color of the field, etc).

So, everyone writing and reading just need to keep that in mind. I love the exchanges, but it would be unwise to ever take too much of it seriously - and certainly not to form your own conclusions or make any decisions based on them.

I even see where some people want to fire the coach...bench the starters...get rid of the AD, etc...Just emotional reactions in the heat of the moment - certainly not level-headed comments. It seems there is a core group on here who do say some very good things, but again, this blog does not seem to be limited to just intellectual conversation.

I am reminded of the great quote from General Tommy Franks: "It requires no knowledge to have an opinion."

Go Flames! Beat Stony Brook!

We don't discriminate around here ... reasonable and flat out nonsensical posts are allowed side-by-side. We let you sort it all out as long as no one steps over the line with personal attacks.

I'll be the first to admit that we could win a national championship and I would still hate listening to Ray Jones.

Its sports fans in general, not just this board. Tony Romo from this year or Tony Romo from 2 years ago? DP ?

He is either the best quarterback in the league or the worst mistake of parcel's life, depending on the win/loss column. Using the same logic, we are the team to beat right now.

jcmanson wrote: Presby and VMI both played very good games. We played flat which is understandable. Our players aren't stupid, they knew these 2 games didn't matter. Yet we still won both of them. To think we are going to play flat against Stony Brook is laughable.
Obviously we all would like to see us dominate week after week, but we did win both of these games and now have a chance to put it all together against SB for all the marbles. And win or lose vs. VMI, the SB game was going to be winner take all.
And the comments regarding the FSN announcers the last 2 weeks have gone over the line. This isn't ESPN, it's FSN. We're not in the SEC. We're in the Big South. Our market is not New York City, it's Lynchburg. It's one thing to complain and state you don't like them, but saying things like "It's not even how stupid the stuff is that he says, it's the fact that he just never SHUTS UP." "I wish they didn't pay you to run your trap nonstop." "There has to be someone with something that at least can substitute for a human brain somewhere around Lynchburg who can take his spot."
From what I've heard, Mike and Ray have been solid each week and do a fine job, especially on this level.

But to be fair, reading through the weekly game threads it's really just one or two posters who seem more obsessed with the announcers than they are with the game itself. Kind of makes one think maybe someone(s) on here have an agenda in that regards.

I think the only time I've been annoyed by an announcer to the point of wanting to post about it was back when Dennis Miller was on MNF, or sometimes when the announcer for basketball wants to talk about his former playing days...again.

Duh. Hire BJ!

Actually....BJ would be a perfect fit to be a replacement....should someone from the Athletic Department ever watch the game on TV.

And here we go with the conspiracies...

Look, its good to have games on TV. But you cannot deny that the two always seem to point out the obvious. But then again, I guess there's two little footballs at the top of the screen, just case anybody forgot that you were watching football.

Some people have different ways of voicing their opinons. I say my criticisms because I want us to be able to progress in terms of professionalism. The TV guys aren't terrible, but you don't need to mention where a player is from 7 times, or remind folks that a touchdown is worth more than a field goal.

On a positive note, the graphics look a lot better this year. Just get rid of the the footballs at the top, I beg you.

The play by play guy isn't bad at all, but Ray Jones is highly annoying. I am sure he is a great guy, but color commentary is just not his thing.

The sad thing is I know for a fact people read this board and read the negative things said about the broadcast team and instead of trying to get better they just want to find out who would have the "nerve" to say something negative about the announce team.

It happens, and its just sad to me...if you are going to work at a DI school in athletics expect a lot of passion. Its the way it is....
