Woah thanks for this link. I will be buying this Switchfoot project next Tuesday. Dark Horses is an amazing song and would be absolutely perfect. Love Anberlin too.

Hey SJ I'm using your old Alverez to learn to play myself. YAY

You miss the fact that maybe that group of young people is the exception and not the rule RC...I bet if we took a survey of kids leaving TR630 or most youth groups/church services, youd find that a lot of them listen to stations like K92, Jammin WJJS, Vibe 100 or any number of other stations and listen to music like Colbie Callait (sp?), Jon Legend, Eminem, AC/DC, Metallica, Michael Buble, Ke$ha, Usher, etc.

BJ, how does attending more games add any more credence to your argument. While I was a student, I attended every home football game. In addition, who suggested playing hymns? There are good, upbeat Christian songs that could be played at football games. They used to play some of these at basketball games and before convo. There have been numerous suggestions on this page. Just do some research.

Again, I sat with students (on the student side) who were also shocked and upset with the music that was played. SuperJon, just as many or more of the students would know songs by Christian artists. I had never heard the song Tonight, Tonight before the game or some of the other songs by the 80s rock groups. Just because some students sing along to a song does not make it appropriate or necessary. If anybody wants to listen to music with questionable lyrics, they can do so on their own time. Broadcasting such songs only serves to mar Liberty's Christian stance and reputation. If all young people want to hear is music from Kesha, Usher, Eminem and others, they can go to a secular school's football game. Liberty (as a Christian school) should be the exception, not the rule.

That's a major broad statement that I wholeheartedly disagree with.

I feel like Rooster on this. There is plenty of great, atmosphere charging Christian music out there. I don't think people will stop coming if we use GNR or Journey. I know it is not an easy job for Athletics. Thank goodness we don't have to hear that terrible music the BS made us use a few years ago.

Why does it matter if they know it or not? Play it. Maybe then they'll listen to it. I blame 90.9 because they play crappy, Light FM music now :D

I guess I could understand this if SKillet, Red, Toby Mac, Switchfoot and Relient K weren't being played on national tv, in the prime time, by secular companies. I'm not saying secular music is bad, but it isn't like there aren't any good alternatives.

And one more thing, at least the crowd music is more up to date than the marching band music. Could we play something written in the last 10 years?

Newsboys was played at Yankee Stadium. Do you think that happened because Newsboys is a great "stadium atmosphere" band or because secular companies understand the value of appealing to the Christian demographic?

If people are questioning our stance because of the music we play at football games, Id like to quote that great philosopher and scholar Colin Cowherd, "that's a you problem"

As for the marching band music, Ive said it before and I will say it again, email the man who can make that happen. As I said in a previous post, youve got songs like "Not Afraid" by Eminem that are arranged for marching band and would be songs Id like to see added to the folder, especially as we are growing as a band.

I remember the good old days when 90.9 was freaking awesome. Unfortunately I was in high school during those days. (which is barely in range of the station).

Love it schfourteenteen! After we lose to JMU again, we should take comfort in that "a lifetime's not too long to live as friends." Haha

How on earth did you come up with that list of songs that all have to be older than you are?

Fair enough. Even though those have already been mentioned 5 times.
Just so people know, in my opinion, skillet isn't christian. I've dealt with them. If you give any presentation of the gospel, they will not play at your event. You don't have to personally believe in that, but I just find it ironic that when you sing about a "savior", just hope nobody asks their pastor what savior they're talking about! That really bothered me when they did that to my church.

But I'm totally okay with the sadie hawkins dance! :D

And POD isn't christian. Still like their songs. And I'm not too sure about Hawk either. Sometimes they did really rubbed me the wrong way.
