Otherwise, with everything that's happening, I just can't say it. I have this gut feeling he'll be here, but that amounts to a hill of beans in the grand scheme.

Hey guys....saw a link to this site from Herdfans.com. I'm a student at Marshall and figured I'd chime in on this and clarify some things.

First of all, ya'll have nothing to worry about about your head coach leaving. I'm pretty sure of that. The whole "it's a done deal" thing is used frequently on Marshall message boards to make fun of a sports writer for a newspaper in Huntington(The sportswriter has said "its a done deal" for several things, such as the hiring of certain people, firing of certain people, etc, and has been wrong almost every time...)..Its used in sarcasm on the message boards.

Secondly, just to reassure, I'm pretty sure we're going to be going after Bob Pruett, former coach at Marshall from 96-04. Not only would he bring in many "high money donors" but he'd also work for cheap while we raised money for facilities, etc. As far as I've heard it'll either be him or Paul Petrino.

Just figured I'd straighten some things out.

I am glad that some of the things that I tried to post today did not go through I am glad to hear this and can breath a bit easier. However, I wont be relieved until this coaching musical chairs mess is done. I will say that I hope that Skip Hlotz goes to UVA because it sounds like Grobe from Wake is #1 on UVA's list. I would lose a little more sleep over that one.

It's nice to hear some of this. I still have the bg's about the situation bc of the source of info. They didn't say coach was going to Marshall for the record. Just that coach was for sure leaving. And it came from inside the athletic department. So while it's apparent that a Marshall hiring isn't imminent, I definitely think there is more to the story. Too much conflicting info to me right now.

I agree wity you. I am a little on edge because of what I hear UVA is trying to do and that is hire Grobe! I think if this happens then I think is a done deal that Rocco is off to Wake! I hope that he would not go to Marshall over staying at Liberty to finish building something special.

I'd wonder about Rocco's thought process if he went to Marshall; I'd be sad, but proud if he went to Wake. Unlike a player and the potential for injury with another season, I'd think that there would be much better opportunities for Rocco after another year or two.
How different are the pay scales between LU and Marshall. I'm pretty sure there are several FBS coaches that aren't compensated as well as Rocco, but are we that far behind Marshall?

Mark Snyder made something like ~310k I believe(Not exact, but its SOMEWHERE around that number). He had the lowest salary out of all Conference USA coaches, excluding Rice and Tulane.

However, from the way our new AD is talking, he has been in talks with several bigtime donors(Friends of Coal, Greenbrier owner, Randy Moss, etc) and we are prepared to pay our next head coach somewhere around 800k.

Also, I noticed a JMU fan on here worrying about us taking Matthews. All I can say is that I've heard his name brought up, and from several inside sources, he is very interested in the job. But Hamerick(Marshall AD) is wanting to bring in a high powered offensive guy that flings the ball around everywhere, and I don't think Matthews would be a legit candidate if thats the case as he rhas a conservative, run the ball, win with defense type of style...we just got rid of that up here with Snyder(a Tresselball disciple), and frankly, it just didn't work in Conference USA. We couldn't compete with the Houstons, and UTEPS of the conference(High powered offenses)
