i was watching the flames/winthrop game monday and got to see the interview with jeff barber. he seems like a really good guy, and has a lot of enthusiasm. he said we want to run the dept like an SEC school. he also said he was on the phone prior to coming to the game and was trying to set up lunch with a big donor, and was identifying several more. it sounds like he has great plans for the program.

A.G. wrote:He has a baseball background? Good--perhaps he can see the things wrong with our program--like all the turnover year after year. Yes--I know, give EXAMPLES. Yes, I know, 36 wins (and we all know that winning covers a mulitude of sins).
All he has to do is have serious heart to heart with the players.
I've hear some rumblings in the Basball program too- not necessarily bad, but we may soon be seeing additional OLD HAGS on the mt??? maybe some blasts from the past coming back to help out? Info to follow!

AG actually had a good idea (for once :o ) and started one of those dreaded "coaching" threads over on the baseball forum. I'll post any further info on there when I hear. Right now, I got NUTHIN.

Great memories to look back through this thread. Read some of this stuff men, and then remember how good God is and how great we have it here. We were worried about how to fill 12,000 and then 15,000 seats and now we're talking about filling 30 with plans for 70.

Some observations (hindsight 20/20)

1. Rocco / Barber were tremendous hires - look what Danny did for this university. No Roccco = no expansion and no legitimate FBS talk or Turner Gill hire.

2. The growth of LUO and the leadership of JLFJR and the executive staff have been tremendous. Not to forget anyone, but Chris Johnson and Don Moon deserve special recognition for their work and the DIRECT benefit to athletics.

3. Imagine looking back on this thread in another 10 years. Incredible to think of where we'll be.

Was an expansion just announced at the Flames Club luncheon? When is the expected timeline to expand to 30,000, if that is what was actually announced? If we are expanding to 30,000 is this an indicator that we may have an FBS invite that has been extended in the late night AD discussions? Do tell!!!! :dontgetit

30,000 was announced a year and a half ago during this construction phase. The bowl and the upper deck on the student side will get us to 30,000. The 70,000 was also announced as these three phases of construction will "ready the stadium for an eventual 70,000 seats."

Don't get ahead of yourself... 70k is a little ways off.

Not much mentioned about expansion at the FC. Maybe some exasperation at what seems to be looking like a a pipe dream for this year and who knows after that. We did get notified that we should be planning on taking the series from Coastal  .

By the way I think it's 60k, not 70... just sayin...
"Eventual" is a loaded word at this point. There's a lot that has to happen before that comes to fruition. That's a lot of work too - it took nearly a year just to complete phase 1.
