I looked over the Liberty Way and I didnt see anything about the two semesters out being automatic, but it does say that its a minimum two semesters out, but Im guessing that with the words "Possible Administrative Withdrawal", if you are caught with them they arent going to be like "you were found with drugs, pack your things, youre gone..." the way Im reading it, (and I had the Liberty Way emailed to me AND I looked it up on the Liberty website), they allow for the legal process to run its course, (as Im guessing many have recommended here) and upon conclusion of the matter, then the appropriate punishment is meted out (in this case, two semesters out minimum)
Here is an interesting point that so far has not been brought up. Here is what the Liberty Way says about Administrative Withdrawal:
Liberty Way wrote:Students, who are reported to have violated the policies or regulations of the University that stipulate administrative withdrawal, are required to meet with the appropriate Student Conduct Officer for a personal conference. The Student Conduct Officer will present the alleged violation(s) to the student and the student will then be given full opportunity to present his/her position concerning the allegation. The Student Conduct Officer, and possibly other Student Affairs staff or their representatives, will conduct an investigation of the alleged violation(s). When the investigation is complete, and the allegation is determined to be true, the Conduct Office Review Committee (CORC) will consider the facts and relevant information concerning the violation(s), including the student's prior disciplinary record, before voting. NOTE: During the investigative process, the student should continue attending classes.
Here also is what it says about self-reporting (and consider the other quoted portion as you read this):
Self-Report Procedure
A student has the option of self-reporting by voluntarily self-reporting to any Liberty University community member within one week of the offense. It is then the responsibility of the community member to whom the offense was reported to accompany the student to the Student Care Office as soon as possible. If an investigation has begun and there is already prior knowledge of the incident, it will not be considered a self-report. The appropriate Student Care Officer will work with the student in setting the necessary boundaries and accountability measures in place to foster an environment for growth. This plan will not include reprimands or fines. Students will not be allowed to “self-report” the same behavior more than once per semester without sanctions.
NOTE: Violations of the law (serious misdemeanors or felonies) may carry sanctions up to and including administrative withdrawal even when there is a self-report.
The bolded section is important to note...according to our resident scribe in his notes on Tuesday, "Liberty’s football coaching staff was made aware of the charges and took action, and part of that action was for Chapman to immediately turn himself into the office of student affairs at Liberty, which is where the “self-reporting” came from in Monday’s press release on the matter. Chapman went to student affairs to inform them of what happened before student affairs was aware of the charges. Ergo, he self-reported." In other words, since the OSC had not already been investigating the matter, but the coaches did know about it, he is still within the confines of the self report policy as outlined in the Liberty Way, and because of that, any reprimands that would be issued and additional consequences (such as being removed from school for said minimum of two semesters) are on hold until the legal process plays itself out.
