Libertine--you could rent out space on your perch for your various "assistants." It would certainly supplement that meager LU salary.

My last year there they scattered the palyers in dorms all across campus and I believe that is a huge mistake. There were freshman players that I hardly knew because the only time that you were together was practice.
I couldn't agree with you more. Unfortunately, the school policy-makers are and always have been dead set against "athlete" dorms. I think they have legitimate reasoning but, in my opinion, the bad effects of the current situation outweigh the good.

Almost the entire softball team was on the same hall last year. Saying they're against athlete dorms is kind of not right considering where most of the kids end up staying.

I walked through the building this afternoon. Some good progress has been made, but there's no way it'll be open by next week. There's just too much still to be done.

They've got most of the painting done, and there are actual doors on the inside now instead of just doorways. There's some carpet down by the coaches' offices, and some of the bathroom stuff is coming together (i.e., toilets and sinks are installed). The lockers are all in for the players and coaches.

If they get everything working in two weeks, I'll be impressed. Then again, I was talking to Jerry Edwards today, and he said he was in the TRBC a week before it opened and thought there was no way they'd get it done in time. But they did, so we'll see.

Most of the sports w/ fewer players can arrange for their players to live in the same dorm through the room reservation process. Unfortunately, football's got too many guys to pull that off.

And correct me if I am wrong, having everybody on the same team in a hall with non-athletes isn't necessarily frowned on. It is the idea of an athlete-only dorm that is opposed, no?

They don't want to create or even appear to be creating an elitist environment where athletes have "their" dorm. Having been a non-athlete student myself, I can see their point but the hassle and confusion created by not having all your guys in one place is more than enough of a drawback for me to want that policy gone.

When I was there late 90's the soccer team was housed on one floor, and golf I think was also on there; baseball was on the second floor; and track/XC was on the third floor. Of course any open rooms were occupied by other students and football had pretty much the one whole dorm on the hill next to the aforementioned sports halls.

I was in school from '86 -90 and the first 3 years all of the football team was in one dorm. It was not a football only dorm- every other room was football players. The time in the dorm is where you really get to know your team mates and in my opinion this is where you develop team chemistry. You also had team leaders that could get to somebody that might be causing problems. But if the players are scattered across campus you have no idea what 75% of your teammates are up to. I am no way advocating a football only dorm but in my opinion you have to have them living togther.

I thought it was the NCAA that outlawed athlete dorms?

I doubt that, unless it was recent. When I was in school at Tech, most of the athletes who lived on campus lived at Cochrane Hall, which had a seperate dining hall and everything. I guess there were a few exceptions. One baseball player lived on my floor at Pritchard.

But that was 1993, so I suppose things could have changed since then.

still hoping for some updated pix of the inside of the new ops ctr- including LIB's spacious corner office and personal hot tub/wet bar.

yes--I am pretty sure they outlawed the Offical athletic dorms--like Hillcrest at Tech used to be.

BTW--it must be going to be finished soon b/c the big signs along 460 are advertising that Aug 25 Flames Club will be at the Operations Center.

Media Day this Sunday is supposed to be there this Sunday afternoon

Nope. Media day will be in the press box. I believe that fans will be able to tour the building if they so choose, but building inspectors will not allow an "official event" to be held in that building until it's safe. It's not safe right now ... too much crap all over the place.

GMTM, that's what I was told yesterday. I think the only way it could change is if they got the donor room ready for use and cleared a way through the front door for people to come in. That place is not suitable for any sort of gathering as it stands right now. That could change by the weekend, though.

Manager, they'll attach a tunnel to the double doors that leak out onto the field and the players will come out of that. The "tunnel" is the long hallway going from the locker room to the double doors.
