Could a CAA team fill a void on Liberty's 2020 football schedule?

Jon Manson wrote:The Athletic’s Nicole Auerbach is reporting that the CAA will not have any conference games scheduled but teams who want to play an independent schedule can try to do so. It will be incredibly challenging for an FCS team to pull off a completely revamped schedule in less than two months, but some will certainly try.
My preference would be to first replace NCA&T with BYU or another FBS team at home, if possible. My priority on all lost games (including WCU) would be FBS only, in order to build long term good will and relationships with other schools. This will only help us with future scheduling and hopefully, conference membership. Then add a CAA/FCS teams as needed.

The most interesting part of the CAA is they’re letting their teams put together independent schedules.

If the Big Ten cancels, will they let Ohio State do their own thing?

Is richmond considering playing? I would be surprised if they did. Main reason to have nmsu (besides availability) is a win. If we play byu and army twice thats 2 and 2 at best maybe 1 and 3. Umass and uconn should be 3 and 1.

Jmu is a tougher game than nmsu by far. Richmond isnt very good anymore but i still would like to stomp them.

Once again living up to the fraudcoach moniker.

Delaware won't play. Sleepy Joe would come out of the basement and cancel them. I suspect JMU is the most likely CAA team to actually try to put together a schedule.

My former pastor's son is the kicker or punter for Richmond. I'd love to see us play them again! :fbplayer

I'd rather play VMI, than JMU or any CAA school, with maybe an exception for Wm & Mary.

I am always really happy that ballocach isn't the one running our athletic dept.

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. I predict the fall season will be cancelled and some will choose to play in the spring but that will be tough with players wanting to prep for the NFL draft, especially at the FBS level.

Playing in the spring will not allow enough "recovery time" before camp for 2021 season.

For the record, I was making schedules for youth teams when I was 16 years old. I would have made a great AD, had I graduated from a college and entered the sports management field.

Richmond and W&M's teams haven't even reported to their campuses yet. We'll likely end up with JMU on our schedule, IF a season even happens. That said, I'd rather us reach out to BYU, NMSU, and other impacted by the current conference-only decisions in order to get an additional FBS team on the schedule.

I would rather get BYU on the schedule as well but I am wondering if schools that decide to play will try remain within their region. If that ends up being the case, then I think we look at regional schools and that is where a CAA school would come into play. I hate JMU so much and would love to beat them, so I am all for that! haha

He’s demonstrated time and again his inability to grasp the fundamentals of running an athletic department of any size

This might not be as big of a deal at the FCS level, but if the Big Ten cancels their season what's to stop Texas or Florida from trying to raid the Ohio State roster for guys that want to play this year? Not sure how the NCAA could stop something like this. JMU is probably thinking something similar since they are a big dog of the FCS.

Some fascinating logic here...bantering about which teams and so forth...at this point I’ll be happy to play 8 games this year. Against who? It matters little...anyone with a pulse. Season on the brink of cancel culture and you’re picky about who we might play. At this point...anyone!

Is this the lying pastor?
No, different pastor. The one in Richmond is the salt of the earth and still a dear friend. The Life Scout (NOT Eagle) pastor is in NOVA.

We need something to entertain ourselves with before the entire season is canceled.

Bret Jones has been doing a great series covering all of our assumed opponents.

Today he covers NC State

Heard an interview with Jerry on VA talk Radio. He said the schedule will be completely different than the published one and might be better. He sidestep a question about playing instate FCS schools. He focused on playing some big names schools and all the independents. He said there are 7 or 8 indys. He didn't mention ND by name.
