Grasping at straws?

Oddly enough, I've already heard of a couple donors who are shutting off the wells. Don't know how I feel about it, but good luck Bob!

ff30 is right...if you look at Lang's piece again, it say that as part of the process once the coaching staff was made aware, Asa had to talk to OSC, and then went through the self-reporting process...and I dont think its grasping for anything...if anything he is using common sense and youre grasping for anything to justify your one sided mindset on the issue...I had to report myself to OSC once myself...now Im no Division I athlete of course but Im sure it isnt out of the ordinary for someone in a position of leadership (whether a coach or someone on hall leadership) to give the offender the opportunity to turn themselves in to OSC after they have talked to them about an offense that would warrant involvement by the OSC

Actually I didn't think anything of what it meant. Would OSC notify Rocco then?

Secondly you dont know what I think about the issue.

Timeline for that to happen

Lang asks Rocco about arrest
Rocco says "WHAAAA?"
Rocco asks Asa about arrest
Rocco tells Asa to go report himself to OSC
Asa "reports himself" to OSC, although media outlets and LU staff already know of the situation
Everyone joins together for a cup of tea and mud wrestling

Beej, what time does the train leave to go to your land of utopia with rainbows, unicorns, and Skittles? I'd like to visit sometime.

Not sure...I am taking a nice vacation over fall break though...and it wont involve utopia, unicorns, rainbows or skittles (which in an unrelated point are a favorite candy of mine)

Well I know where we can get you some if you want. Don't worry, just turn yourself in right after you get caught. There's no punishment involved.

A New Era of Athletic Accomplishment

"While competitive goals drive all athletes, Liberty will remain distinct among NCAA Division I programs due to its status as the largest evangelical Christian university in the world. Looking forward, the program will continue to uphold coaches and student-athletes to NCAA regulations and the high standards of Christian sportsmanship."

Or in this case, may be it should read;

"While competitive goals drive all athletes...especially our football program, Liberty will remain sorta distinct among NCAA Division I programs due to its status as the largest evangelical Christian university in the world. Looking forward, the program will sometimes attempt to uphold coaches and below average athletes to NCAA regulations (but rarely star athletes), and when we feel like it, to the high standards of 'Whatever we can get away with we will.' We will also continue to hold our regular student body to unfairly balanced high standards, particularly morally, though legally as well because as an athletics program we are 'Training Champions for A Football Program That Really Want to Win, But Can Only Be Co-Champions...for Christ.'"

You might want to re read the article. I won't accuse you of not reading it as I was. It clearly stated that the OCD, as it will be known from here on out, was informed AFTER Rocco. FF30 wondered if the OCD was made aware prior to the coaching staff.
My point was, to paraphrase a famous reporter 'what did he know and when did he know it'

I agree with many on this board that this is a P.R nightmare. I really get the sense that the higher ups didn't think that most of you would take the news this way. I've been told by many people that I respect that this is all about "God's Grace" I just don't see it. This team is 1-2 and would still be 1-2 if nothing had happened.

I know Coach Rocco has had a relationship with Asa since 2005, and you get the sense that he wants to be the guy who helps him turn the corner, but he is really rolling the dice with him on this one in the court of public opinion. I have great respect for Coach and hope he doesn't get burned here. It would be a shame to see all the postive things that have happened since he has been here go to waste.

Look who crawled out from under whatever rock they have been hiding under. I am all about Gods grace. But I am not all about using that term to justify things that should not be justified.
To sidebar, to me this is taking the Lords name in vain. Not cursing. But that is another topic lol

Where are you getting that from? I just gave you the timeline that was printed, the OCD was the last office to know. Do I think people are trying to justify their spin, yep.

I agree with you SJ. 1st, maybe even 2nd time, grace and forgiveness should be given. We all are called to forgive, but we all know the point where forgiveness just turns to (okay, I guess I can get away with it again).

Grace can be given after the 40th time but there cannot be grace without true repentance. People don't brag about getting off if they're truly repentant. Repentance also isn't being grateful for getting off. Calling this grace actually cheapens what grace really is.

I may not have said my piece the way I wanted to, but I agree with you. Bottom line. Sorry I'm distracted with history papers lol

I say - bring on Lehigh... Who's ready for some football?

Man - you guys are wasting your time here. It's his life and the school's decision. I'm selfish - I want to see him play - the school has to live with their decision - and they made it - Respect it. They know much more than we do and I'm not judging anyone when it deals with off the field matters that I have no first hand knowledge.

On the field issues - go for it - that's our business... We are sports fans, not school administrators, coaches, counselors, law enforcement, AD's, etc... I hope Asa can sure up a defensive line that struggled last week to stop the run...
