There is some sand and rubber in the field and I was told they were going to resume work tonight once it cools down. As for the FOC, the locker room is carpeted and there is running water in the bathrooms. It looks just about ready. More carpet down throughout the building. The third floor was roped off, but I could see that the tile was down on the entire floor, so I assume the donor room will be ready for Thursday.

As for the field, Rocco said after practice that he hoped they'd be practicing on it Tuesday. We'll see.

There are 2 spreaders on the field at this moment, 1 for sand and 1 for rubber, working into the night/all night. Plus the sweeper machine. The team's been told they'll be able to practice on the new field Tuesday at 4:15. The installers are working to finish the playing surface first, then the less critical areas out of bounds last.

They had 3 spreaders to work tonight, but one busted a tire. Peggy the seamstress says every piece of equipment they've had on this job has broken down at one point or another. Tell me that ain't the devil trying to bust up the Lord's work.

I would certainly think that LU is not highly thought of by that evil doer.

The whole area--looking down from the bleachers and towards the Ops Center, looks spectacular. More speading and sweeping still going on--at least as of 1145.

I really like the field design. Just keep the freakin Big South logo off of it and it will be fine.

I was always for the White in the logo. That is how the NFL does it I think. Look at the Eagle in the middle of Licoln Financial Field. It has a white background similar to ours. I love it! It is gonna feel like we have a new stadium with all the changes both big and small.

I wasn't too up on the white outline of the logo, but having seen it in person, it really does stand out. I Like those red steps too.

I'm down on the red steps. I don't like that at all.

the close up of the red makes it look terrible, but i was sitting over there some for practice and the red really adds to it it i think....as for the turf....absolutly beautiful....people kept walking by and commenting on it.....never heard that with that old crap....from the second i got here 3 years ago i thought to myself, man thats ugly

the field really does look like freshly cut grass. So far JB has been doing a great job on informing the public on how everything is going to be because so far he's been on the money with his explanations of how everything will look. i was at practice today and the turf looks great, as well as the offense.

At first glance, the red on the steps doesn't really seem to add anything until you step back and see the whole effect from inside the stadium. It's a simple thing but it's a great idea.

The only other minor detail that would have been cool would have been red accents around the numbers, would have complemented the center logo quite nicely...like the UMass Numbers on their field with the maroon.

Football Tests Out FieldTurf During Tuesday's Practice
August 29, 2006
Lynchburg, Va.

The football team practiced for the first time on the new FieldTurf at Williams Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. The team was able to practice on the surface despite the fill process being incomplete. Tonight the installation crew will finish two more passes of sand than rubber before the final fill. This process will be done by Wednesday morning. Wednesday evening will be the season’s first “Fire Drill” pep rally on the FieldTurf at Williams Stadium. The rally will begin approximately 9:15 p.m. following the church service at Thomas Road Baptist Church.

A truckload of 32 rolls of FieldTurf arrived on August 11th, while the remaining nine rolls and necessary materials to complete the project arrived the following day.

On August 13th, the first roll of FieldTurf were installed, starting at approximately the 50 yard line and installation crews continue to work their way towards the new Williams Football Operations Center in the North end zone. The complete installation project is scheduled to take 10 to 14 days (weather permitting).

The installation of the new FieldTurf is one of numerous athletics facility upgrades to take place all around the Liberty University campus this summer. Last week, flag poles were installed atop the East stands at Williams Stadium and on the lawn in front of the Hancock Athletic Center.

The floor in the top portion of the Hancock Athletic Center weight room was renovated, while the court and the surface around the court were redone in the Vines Center.

Finally, besides the surface renovations at Williams Stadium, the completion of the Williams Football Operation Center is within days as construction crews are putting the finishing touches on the 60,000-square foot state-of-the-art facility.
