The rumor is that Fitzgerald is academically ineligible by UVA standards just like these other 4. Nothing has been confirmed as of now. This kid is a high major talent, more talented than Vince. He is on the same level as a Chris Long. I don't know about any reason why he would come here. He very well could have been a Rocco recruit, as Rocco was still there while he was being recruited. I'm not sure though if Rocco actually recruited him. Very likely he did though.

And Rocketfan, trust me: Brock will be our starting QB next year.

Transferring to an FCS program is the only way this will happen, and we would seem to be as likely a candidate as any.

Virginia defensive end Jeffrey Fitzgerald informed teammates Thursday that he would be leaving the football program for unspecified reasons, multiple sources confirmed.

The loss comes at a bad time for the program. Chris Long, who started opposite Fitzgerald in Virginia's 3-4 defense, is expected to become one of the top five selections in the upcoming NFL Draft.

And for the record, this is the rumor I was referencing a week or so back. If he does come here the impact would be off the charts. He is a Top-15 overall in the draft type of talent.

I don't really know the details of the new transfer rules. Jeffery is a Red Shirt Sophomore (2nd year for you UVA guys) how would the new rules affect him if Rocco could catch his ear?

Assuming he was academically eligible, he should be able to spend two years on the Flames defensive front. Then again, the NFL Draft would be a VERY real possibility for him after next season barring injury.

Let me repeat, this could have a huge impact on the program this fall. But time will tell whether or not he chooses to come play for Coach Rocco.

Its tough to say he's as good as Long at this stage since he's younger. But he's certainly on a similar level talentwise.

I believe he could possibly go in the Supplemental Draft but it wouldn't be in his best interests financially. For all intents & purposes he needs one more year of playing time and then he'll confront the decision.

These are all purely conjecture and extremely early. But it does show you the type of attention that Fitz has already drawn nationally in just two seasons.
