Also ran across this when looking for helmet info: a patent describing a breakaway facemask. Thoughts on this?Interesting idea but the helmet and facemask are forced in multiple directions during any given football play. A lot of things could happen in, for instance, a dogpile on a fumble or even just standard line play. I don't see the possible safety benefits from this outweighing the safety benefits of the current facemask.
