I'm laughing at the people who said our offense played better. I'm not saying anything else on that because, well, I can't.

As for W&M fans, the only thing I didn't appreciate were the guys up in the corner of our section talking crap about LU all night, and the Jerry comments (such as "We're glad Jerry Falwell died" which I heard myself). Talking crap to the players, the cheerleaders, the mascot, and all of that are ok. I was just very disappointed with the other stuff. Other than that, I had absolutely no problem with their fans.

Why does W&M not have a marching band?

It's late, I'm tired, and I'm not supposed to be here. However, I can't let what I saw tonight go by without something being said. And that something is:

THANK YOU!

Thank you to all the people, some from this board no doubt, that showed up in red tonight 4 hours from home and cheered us on the entire game. As long as I've been affiliated with Liberty athletics, I've never seen support like that for us on the road. It was a big boost for us tonight and, for this program to succeed, that's the kind of support we have to have every week. I've never been more proud to be a Flame.

I love you guys.

I will now go back into my hole.

magnolialeague wrote:Were talking about taking a football from someone's hand on the ground and flipping it to a guy who catches the ball five yards away and places the ball by one of his feet. Not very scientific. It is the way it is.

As a Vanderbilt fan in the SEC where everytime we win might cause a large state school a bowl bid that translates into millions of dollars of lost revenue. I've seen some crap. We take it with "class" and shut up like good conference whores that collect a fat check.

KK - if that ball was tossed to the other spotter both times, we lost. The spots weren't the same. The calls went our way.

However, you are right. More than one of the pass interferences on us were bogus. The hold on us at the end was not. Our guy grabbed their guy.

Our clip was a clip and stupid because it didn't figure into the play.
I love you.

Seriously, all I have to say is that I am glad we showed a ton of heart, and that they put on a great show, I had a great time at the game, and am proud to be a Flame, despite not loving every aspect of the Flames at the moment. 8)

just getting back to the noke and i will say im proud of our team's heart...we never quit. also proud of coach rocco for sticking up for his players and arguing with the refs on that horrible spot.( and yes the video from LU shows the bad spot KK) Iit was so obvious because the side judges could not agree. in any regard that one play did not decide the game. our defense was horrible tonight. brock played good in the 4th qtr and very average the rest of the way and kent hicks...... jack***. we stopped the tribe on 3rd down and this loud mouth gets a personal foul which led to tribe points! he would never see the field again.
not enough zach terrell tonight and if brock had played the 4th qtr like the rest of the game it may have been different. many kudos to the tribe. phillips is a very nice QB, and their running game lkooked pretty good. for the most part theri fans were good except for the ones that said im glad Jerry died...classless. and though i respect the heck out of jimmye laycock, his postgame comments when GMTM asked him to talk on LU's improvement since their last visit to williamsburg, his response was "look at all the transfers". cmon jimmye you are better than that give credit where credit is due.

our fans were great, the flames club tailgate was ok.....cold burgers and dogs will not cut it though, and just a good day for football, except the loss. thanks to GMTM for driving and good to hang with tim, josh, and HMO, as well as seeing all the "flamefans.com" peeps there. we will come back next week with a bang in the old north state! this season is not over we may not go to the playoffs, but the goal was to win the big south and we can and will do that. im off to bed.

I have to say that I was surprised by the LU turnout as well. There was quite a contingent of Red clad LU-ers walking toward the stadium when I was finding a place to park. I think it's safe to say that the "Red" rule has seeped into the collective consciousness of the LU Fan...now hopefully it sticks. (Some of the gear was pretty nice too, including the fighting eagle old school fatigued shirt, the varsity script and the baseball script stuff.)

I was near some of the painted dudes in for most of the game; pretty funny without being too obnoxious...and the few poor unfortunate W&M fans that paid for seats in the Visitors section were pretty boring...although, there was some funny banter exchanged.

All in all, a good experience for my first game in several years. Would like to see the series continue and at the very least see a Flames trip to the Hampton Roads region each year (we've got four to choose from W&M, Hampton, Norfolk State and soon to be ODU.)

My last thought here is that I find I am "green" with envy for the following after my taste of the W&M gameday experience:

a) that the CAA Santa did not leave any spots in my stocking

b) that I wish LU had a layout that included something like the little taverns/coffee shoppes/hole in the wall restaurants like W&M campus has set up right across the street from the stadium. (I envision fans congregating in these for general merriment and arguing about the games. There were lines to get into some of the pubs down the street as I walked back to my car, although I'm "sure" that talking about the game was the chief goal of those standing in said lines 8) .)

What I am not envious of:

a) $23 tickets

b) kamikaze pedestrians

(*Would like to see this established as an ongoing series as it makes for a great gameday all around. Great area to take in some sites, great campus, nice stadium (except for the track) and not too far from my humble abode.)

Takes on some of the previously discussed...

- The spot was too close to call, and I was at field level on that end. We'll see it at the QB Club meeting on Monday, and I'll come back and let you guys know how it looked to me.

- Just because it's a "Hail Mary" doesn't mean you can grab a guy (RJ Archer) with the ball in the air. That one was right in front of me, and it was a good call. Flag was thrown before the ball came down. The play was no less boneheaded than Derek Cox throwing a clip 10 yards behind the play on David Caldwell's INT. That penalty cost about 50 yards and resulted in no score for the Tribe.

- Credit to W&M defensive front for the stop at the end. That was Rashad Jennings with the ball!

- Liberty has now experienced the "new" Jake Phillips. He's played 10 quarters over three games and is 59-84 (70.2%) for 1,010 yards with 8 TDs and 0 INTs for a 202.5 efficiency rating. Lacking its true speed in Courtland Marriner and DJ McAuley, this Tribe offense remains potent.

- Kudos to the Tribe OL for playing well against some formidable Liberty talent. Vince Redd was never really a factor in this game.

- This series will resume at some point, but we need some variety in our schedule. With VMI and an FBS team every year, it's time to move on. If we were to have that only available OOC game become a long series, I'd rather it be Hampton.

- What a change in the Liberty crowd from two years ago! Loudest visitor crowd since JMU playoff game. I was disappointed in our crowd.

- What was up with Liberty waiting to take the field last prior to the game?

LOL...

Also... Thanks to W&M for the visiting team's patch of grass behind our equipment truck. Loved the digs.

Before the game, and during halftime our guys met on a patch of grass behind our equipment truck. Is there no room in the visiting locker room to meet? If not, that's horrible.

I don't know why we waited so long to come out on the field. Coach was probably just giving them a LONG talk. but i don't know.

I don't have that gut wrenching, "depths of despair", I'm going to cry and stay in my bed feeling like I usually have after such a bad loss. Yes, I'm VERY sad over the loss as some of you may have read my comments after the game but I'm proud of my boys for sticking it out and for fighting to the very end. We didn't get stomped, we didn't let them and although it looked like we were going to get stomped we didn't. I'm proud of them for tying the game. I'm proud of them for taking it to double overtime. There's a saying my Iraq bound son goes by, "You may find me dead in a ditch some day, but by God you'll find me in a pile of brass" -Tpr. M. Padgett. The Flames went down fighting to the bitter end!.....and for that, I beam with pride and am proud to be an LU Flame!!

Hey dudes, long time no see. Traveled down here to Williamburg Friday Night in a Noreaster to see the game Saturday.

Ehh, tough loss, what ya gonna do?

Early mistakes, pass defense just flat out sucked. The spot on the last play was baaaaaad. He def picked up that yard. BS way to end a game.

But have to admit, our guys really came out strong there at the end. Loved the performance. We need to stop picking up penalties on the red zone on 3rd down on defense, especially unsportsmanlike conduct. It's boneheaded and it's happened before. They better work on tackling too. Big hits were nice, but not when the guy picked up 15 yards.

See some of you in class on Monday. GOOOOOO LU!

I didn't see the game, I was on my way back from watching UNC lose to UVA.....I heard the whole game on the radio and was even corresponding the game back to friends in Chapel Hill. That is when you know LU football is on the rise. Sucks we lost, but it sounded like we couldn't do anything in the secondary

His comment was simply the truth. Liberty has greatly enhanced their team with transfers. He made no judgement on that...it's just the truth.

If you feel defensive about it, that's not his problem. If you think he's a moronic jerk, well....

You're the only team that has chosen to meet outside. There's room in the lockerroom.

Distinct lack of class beginning to show on this board.

well, when you hear their are fans yelling things like, "we're glad falwell is dead" and things of that nature its hard to be "classy" towards you all, fair or not...thats the way it is...

More lack of class. Look at the situation for the last scoring drive at VMI. Third and fourth string tailbacks carrying the ball. Phillips and most starters did not play in the second half.

The jerks reside here.

Sour grapes a-holes.

Uh, bite me?

Seriously, if there were really all that room inside, do you think our guys would have met outside? I don't know. You might be right. Maybe our coaches just like every random person in the stadium having access to what they're telling the guys. Maybe it's their favorite thing.

Going for it on 4th & 2 at midfield in the 4th quarter when you're up by 39. I dare you to defend that one.
