Okay there are three problems that make people angry about this:

1) They interfere with football time - I mean gosh football is a religion and now people will be leaving the game early when in fact football should be the number one priority on Saturdays, along with tailgating and hillbilly golf
- There is nothing wrong with that

2) Student Activities again scheduled it - Many of us here have a rotten egg we want to throw at them because we feel they just dont think sometimes, and there is apparently no communication between them and anyone else on campus
- Who doesnt hate people that look like they have no clue what they are doing?

3) It is SOOOOOO easy to fix this - Just change the time to not mess with the football game, its not that hard. I dont think anyone is sitting here saying there is NO WAY he could play an hour later
- When someone thinks they can do a better job, which in this case may be very well true, they have the right to say something

UCF, UC, FSU, USF, etc. don't schedule events during football games. Why? They KNOW people will be either going to or watching the game.

LU obviously wants students butts in the seats, which is why we get in free and are encouraged to go. But there is no guarantee that people will go. People from this board have skipped parts of tailgates and maybe even parts of games to follow their BCS teams on the radio or TV. Because of that fact, that the football team isn't such a dominant force on campus that commands "shutting down" everything else, SA CAN get away with this concert. Its not a given that everyone is going to go to the game. I can think of several people that I have met so far at school who are going to be going to the concert, and they probably don't event know about the concert yet.

However, I am not saying that makes it a wise thing to do. People love football games. Girls who don't know the rules and only know which team is ours cause someone in their brother dorm told them its the dark blue ones, those girls LOVE the games, and have tons of fun. But those very same girls would rather watch the concert if given a choice. And that is going to hurt us.

If someone on this board skipped a tailgate or game to watch another team I will punch them in the mouth right now.

I notice hurricane fan kind of disappeared from this conversation...I was hoping to hear more from him in response to this...but I guess he figures he did his job in being a tool for student life....

I know many different dept's on campus that have tried to reach out to student activities and in some cases it worked, some cases no....they are a weird bunch....and I don't really think that Jeff Barber himself could change their minds on this...I may be wrong...but it seems to me once they have their minds made up on something, thats it....nobody can tell them what to do!!

Well I for one have never and will never do that.

Colorado State is just gonna lose anyways, they don't need me to listen to the massacre. :P

Speaking of Anberlin, whoever's idea it was to play Blueprints for the Black Market before a football game should be punched in the mouth as well. Sure, it's a great cd (albeit four years old) but it's not a football cd. I'm pretty sure that was Student Activities as well.

I didn't hear that, but honestly it is about time.

Here's to hoping it doesn't ruin their music.

Tailgate. We're at our tailgate and all of a sudden I hear "This car turned over without a key or gasoline tonight" and I started shaking my head.

yeah it was just announced recently...they are releasing unreleased songs/b-sides in november and then their cd with Universal Records will be coming out in march I believe (I could be wrong about that though)

They are a good band, and I have followed them from the beginning (being from central florida and all) and have seen them grow to more then I thought they ever would be...I have seen them so many times and aside from one time, they always put on a good show...

I am very happy for them....and like you said, lets hope the major label doesn't ruin them like they seem to do to so many bands

well, it could've been 90.9's music, I don't remember...but who knows...Student Life wanted to play their own music, which I think they did and it carried much further then our music.....but I don't want to get into that....what a crap deal

Cities just came out this year. They're already pumping another one out?

Side note: Foreign Language is one of my favorite songs, ever. I got it on a T&N sampler before it came out and have loved it ever since.

At the same time, some people just don't like football or going to games and Student Activities was providing something else to do. It may be that Derrick Webb just couldn't come any other night. Quite possibly, Student Activities didn't even look at the schedule and just went with it.

It's really not THAT big a deal. Maybe it's just me.
It wouldn't be a big deal to coordinate things between departments either. Thats what's so frustrating to me about this. It's not that it's a huge deal, but it's such a stupid thing to do. It really seems to me that someone just really wanted Derek Webb to play and didn't care what else was going on. Otherwise they could have scheduled another act on another night.

I'm all for variety in student activities. I just don't think we should schedule things at the same time because there are a lot of people who would be into both things. I'm not a student, but I'd probably go to concert...if there wasn't a football game that night.

Listen, I'm going to bow out of this thread now, but I'm going to end it by saying that this kind of stuff shouldn't be happening. Home football games only happen six times a year and they last for four hours. It is entirely possible to schedule no other large events on a campus of ten thousand for those four hour periods. Not only is it possible, it should be mandatory. I'm going to see what I can do to make sure that's the case from here on out. I'm dead serious about fixing this.

How about simply scheduling the football game at 6 instead of 7? The concert can go on without conflict and no one has to worry about turning into a poltergeist if they're out after 1230 AM.

see...I would try to do something to change things...but there have been so many times I have talked to student life or excahnged e-mails and i always get the feeling they don't really care...but maybe if you said something or did something it would change...who knows

I stopped posting because it was useless to continue. As I said before, I don't have dog in the fight and it doesn't affect me either way. I haven't been to a concert at Liberty in 7 or 8 years and I will probably never attend another one. The people who don't want to go to the games aren't going to go even if something else isn't scheduled. The people who don't want to go to any athletic event should not have to sit in their dorms until 11 or 12 at night so everyone else is happy.

I'm done with this conversation and thanks for the tool comment. Pretty classy. I didn't ge the memo about the ban on personal attacks being lifted. Pure class.

Yeah, I am originally from south florida, and got to see them open for Relient K at a festival or something before they got big, it was pretty cool. I have loved them ever since.

And yeah, Blueprints is not a football song, they dont really have a good football song.

Even tho listening to "Fin" off the new album would get me pumped up for anything.
