As for a Soul Force protest, that would be great. I have a new pair of flats I would like to wear with my spring chafon
I didnt expect much of a different attitude a few years ago and I defenitally dont expect much of a different one now, so thank you for living up to your expectations!
Wow Psychic expectations!! Considering I have only been here recently I am glad to meet expectations so quickly!! Mama said I was an overacheiver!!
All I want is to have things called like they are, nothing more and nothing less. If we bring in "these types" of players then fine, lets just not sugar coat it. What is wrong with that? Instead, we have a tendency to cover up and make excuses for the players and decsions made to bring them in. I don't think any of them WOULD come here, but it is a great esoteric debate to have. A good question to ask would be: What would the response be if you we DID bring them in and said something like "Obviously this young person is a tremedous talent who can help our team. It is our hope that the Liberty atmosphere will help with this young persons development and grow. If they chose to follow the rules they will stay, if not they will be gone." Sound good? I agree, but the REAL question is: Would we let them go IF they broke a rule? Yes or No? (Deal or No Deal?)
But LU has...do you know how easy it would have been to keep Miller last year, 1 phone call and everything is taken care of, but the thing is they knew he'd just slack off again, and that guy was a much needed part to this Flames team with his Noah (Florida) style of basketball

And that is the point. That "Call" has been made in the past and will be again. We can't have it both ways. I am sure there were lots of reasons that the "Call" was not made, but the fact that it is ALWAYS a possibility is what I am talking about. I don't care who we have on the team or who we kick out. All I would like to see is some consistency. Is that so wrong? Either make the "Call" or don't, but don't say that the "Call" has never been made and wrap our programs is some cloak of righteousness. I have NO PROBLEM if we subscribe to the Win or Go Home Mentality.

but what your asking is for consistency for teams that are not asked to be consistent...if JF would ask that every player be a solid Christian then we'll see that consistency, but at this point he hasn't and wont ask for that, therefore there can be a few that don't fit that consistent lifestyle of others

Lets get some clarification. Are you saying that you have to be a Christian to follow the rules? Going to class, getting good/decent grades, being a good "community citizen" has absolutely NOTHING to do with your belief or disbelief in God or your commitment to Christ. There are thousands of athletes who do these things across the country and are not Christians. Also, the fact that you ARE a Christian does not excuse you from the above behavior either. I have never posted that we should have an All Christian team. I don't care one way or the other. What I would like to see is we get a good number of these types of athletes, not all, but some OR just bring in whoever we need to that we think will help us win. I think we can win either way.

Brokeback- I believe you misunderstood his statement. He didn't say that Christians followed rules at the exclusion of anyone else, he said that if the team were all Solid Christians then you'd see the rules followed. You fell into a classic logical fallicy. X is Y doesn't mean Y is also X.

Now back to the interesting discussion.

Again, my contention--would LU be creating Champions for Christ if all the recruits (and general student body) were already there?

I think it important that the school reaches out to all types. I also think it important that ALL students follow the rules once they are here--without favoritism or any indescretions swept under the rug.

It's like the "War against Drugs" I don't think it's anything you'll ever win, but there are things you can do to help control it....I know lots of students that are nobody's (meaning no name, sport or anything to give them favoritism) yet they got off the hook for doing things they shouldn't have and had enough reps to get them kicked out yet their still here

Perhaps a kinder, gentler LU since the days of Judge Doom where there was almost no leeway given.

You can't get to 25,000 students with Levitical law :)

That is why I was seeking clarification. I agree that not all Christians follow the rules and all non christians do not. However, that is what HMO's point seemed to be. Therefore, I was asking him to clarify the position. If we did recruit all Christian athletes, would it be a better situation? Maybe Maybe not. If we recruited good character but non Christians would we have a better situation? I don't know, I was just seeking HMO and the boads thoughts.

I'm in favor of it. As long as they can get their act together I think it's worth the shot. It certainly would speed up our ability to become solid as a contender in the 1-AA world. If we added these guys to the previous transfers and last years group that played well in spite of the adversity... we'll be ready to play with everyone on the schedule. Wake is still another level but everyone else would be even more within reach.
