Bob Good just mentioned at the Flames Club luncheon yesterday that Penn State's new weight room is 1,000 square feet, compared to LU's which is 1,600 square feet--in other words, take that, Joe P :!:

Rocco mentioned at Flames Club that he and the staff and Barber are trying to change perceptions around the state and around the country that this is a compromise school. He was saying that it is not a compromise of your career to come here. We have facilities, players and coaches that are 1st class and he is slowly changing perceptions. That is why a person would come here over VA Tech. He also talked about more transfers coming in and how the 1A (sorry Medic) guys will come because of the positive experience of the 1A guys that are already here. Barber said that they want recruits to see things in our stadium and facility that you won't see at the other 1AA schools in the state (Cider you are right, both Rocco and Barber used the terms 1A and 1AA). The box seats are one example....See I was paying attention even though I was exchanging several text messages with a certain basketball coach from Indiana (no not Bob Knight and not Larry Bird...inside joke for you new guys on an earlier thread about basketball).

It is very encouraging to hear about all of the things were are trying to do to LU's athletic department and how those outside of the LU family perceive it. Good things are happening but more needs to be done in other areas if we are to totally change that perception. It may take time before we start seeing better results but things seem to heading in the right direction.

Rocco said, "In order to get transfers [from 1A], you have to have transfers." In other words, your current transfers have to be happy here, so that they can tell other prospective transfers how great it is to play here. Rocco mentioned that it started with the UVa transfers because of his connections there, and then it has spread to VaTech and Pitt transfers--but he alluded that our pool of tranfers may be widening past those 3 schools.

About the temporary sky boxes, I briefly sat beside a guy at the luncheon who actually bought one (for $29 grand). He said if you add the inside space with the deck space on top, they can house around 50 people. If my math is right, that's "only" around $600 per person, if you can actually get 50 people in or on top of one of those. Or, if we only used it for half the season, we could get 100 people to sign up for "only" $300.

I agree with the approach of making this school a preeminent choice for transfers who may find themselves on the fringe at a larger program. From all that I have heard and read, this is how the App. States,UMass success has occurred in part. Combine this approach with a recruiting program that features not only the facility upgrades, but the success that comes from transfer influx, the higher profile names that are recognized in Virginia, and you have the momentum swing we are currently experiencing. One other point I would like to make is that I have never heard as much talk about character issues than I had last weekend during the NFL draft.
1. Don't take one guy with a character alert: Commissioner Roger Goodell is going to come down hard on the bad guys. The majority of veteran players are fed up with the antics of some of the problem children around the league and no one is talking about how much these players are tearing down the locker room. Four-game suspensions strangle a team because of the 53 man roster limit. I bet Bengals coach Marvin Lewis isn't taking another chance on a guy with first-round talent and has character issues. An unofficial guide to the draft

I believe that few other programs in the nation make a greater priority of this issue with its players than Liberty. Another plus for players being recruited and looking for a better fit.

1. Cider: yup, 24 downstairs and another 24 or so upstairs- though it would be a bit crowded. That was my justification in trying to get SMOOTHIE to front us the money for a FlameFans suite- esp for us :oldhag who like comfort.

2.madmat: great find- can you add the link? I'd really like to see that article.

thanks

We couldn't get 25 people to actually send in $10 for the Flames Club.

I like all of the good talk on this board but actions speak louder than words. I am looking at going to the Coastal game if you are up to it PAMedic.
