The Towson RB pickup looks good. If that OL gels, he could be a good one.

LU Armchair coach wrote: ↑January 21st, 2025, 10:39 am It's a valid question to ask whether Coach Chadwell is focused on building LU Champions for Christ or just recruiting to win games. From what I've seen and heard, it seems like he's genuinely committed to both. Winning games is important, but it's clear that developing character and faith in the players is a top priority. The emphasis on being Champions for Christ goes beyond the scoreboard, aiming to shape individuals who will make a positive impact both on and off the field. It's about creating a legacy of integrity, faith, and excellence. So, while victories on the field are celebrated, the ultimate goal is to raise leaders who embody the values of Christ in every aspect of their lives. Does he seem to recruit kids with high character, good family backgrounds?I think you can have both... And HCJC does a great job, IMO, at this. He recruits great kids - are they all Christians? Probably not, but when they get here are they in a great Christian atmosphere? yes and that's the vision Falwell, Sr. had. It's definitely a balancing act, but Liberty doesn't invest as much money on athletics to not win...
LU Armchair coach wrote: ↑January 21st, 2025, 3:04 pm A Christian atmosphere? Absolutely—just like trying to balance a holy high-five with a touchdown dance! It's definitely a juggling act, but hey, if anyone can pull it off, it's the team with faith and a game plan.I don't know how much money Liberty spends, but I know it's more then most programs in the country. Our facilities are 1st rate, our teams travel all over the world, and yes - we have a collective that is higher then most, but not higher then a SEC or Big Ten school.
How much money does Liberty really invest in athletics to not win—are we talking "championship-level" budgets or just enough to keep the snack bar stocked? I heard OSU spent $25 million on their current roster—how can LU compete with these collectives, or are we just hoping to win with a great pep talk and some really, really motivational posters?

LU Armchair coach wrote: ↑January 21st, 2025, 3:43 pm How much is Liberty giving in NIL, and how do they decide who gets what—do they hand out cash like Oprah giving away cars, or is there a secret "performance, potential, and maybe a little bit of charm" spreadsheet we don't know about?Good luck getting an answer on this. I've tried but it seems to be top secret (basically just get "we are doing well" but not sure what this means). VCU is supposedly now at $384k per year for mens basketball players https://x.com/CBKReport/status/1875960107793809616?mx=2 . I am pretty sure we are not doing this yet but who knows. It's been a tightlipped thing.

There are reporting requirements for any LU-related spend on Athletics that you can access easily through the US DOE Equity in Athletics Database. The data is often a year or more behind, but LU's latest Athletics spend report for FY 2023 (7/1/22 - 6/30/23) shows a spend of ~$63M. Considering we were just transitioning to CUSA, it's likely that number has climbed to be close to or over $65M. That puts us at nearly $30M higher than the next CUSA member and is good enough for top 5 in the G5. If reporting on HCJC's salary is accurate, he's the highest paid G5 coach and by a rather large amount.Hey, just curious – when you mention the $63 million budget, is that an all-in number? Does it cover everything like salaries, hotels, planes, travel, uniforms, and all the other expenses?
As far as the NIL's go, eventually reporting requirements will catch up to them, especially since the donations applied are "tax exempt" in many cases. Some collectives are for-profit and others are 501c3 (not-for-profit). The ones under the latter should be required to file a form 990, which you can find on Guidestar.org if you know what you're doing. If they're for-profit then the reporting becomes less available to the public.
Sly Fox wrote: ↑January 23rd, 2025, 4:53 pm Yes, it includes all expenses. Sometimes programs hide other expsenses inside the budget. Other schools disguise the real costs from prying eyes.https://nil-ncaa.com/cusa/
As a private institution, LU is not required to break those numbers down,
Humble_Opinion wrote: ↑January 23rd, 2025, 5:31 pm LU being private doesn't mean they don't have to report their financials, but it does mean the reporting requirements are different. They report a lot of relevant financial data on their form 990 that provides Balance Sheet and P&L data, plus other interesting tidbits like compensation data for the highest earning employees. In addition, like all accredited institutions (public or private) they have to report a whole host of data, including financials to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). If you know a little bit about excel, you can download data from virtually every college across the land and use it for your own ends.
My first finance position was at LU and I spent plenty of time looking at EADA data and the database at the NCES. Those were exciting times. I still use the data from time-to-time when I get curious. I was going to provide a counterargument to something JCManson said on the ASeaofRed podcast from this week on athletics spending in the CUSA...
