I wouldn't complain if we win as many games as Ohio state this year. It wouldn't suprise me if we had more talent than everyone on our schedule but I have concerns about how well we adjust to the new schemes out of the gate along with depth at certain positions. I was hoping we would add more P5 transfers looking for playing time after spring practices but I guess chadwell feels comfortable rolling with what we have.

After losing 27 transfers with the majority being on defense I was hoping for a couple more, especially on that side of the ball. If I'm counting correctly we lost 16 transfers on defense and back filled with 7. We don't exactly have a lack of scholarships to go around at the moment unless I missed something.

If we're including transfers from December, which the 27 number does, we added a total of 20. We have 6 scholarships available. We were in on several transfers this spring that we didn't get for various reasons. It wasn't for a lack of trying. The coaching staff added about 40 new scholarship players in 6 months.

I'd love for at least 3 of those schollies to go to HS kids.

I assumed it was just a different recruiting philosophy than what we are used to rather than a lack of effort. I figured chadwell just felt comfortable with what we have going in to next season and wanted to save those scholarships for the 2024 high school class so he can start building for the future when he has more time to evaluate players. Knowing we have 6 scholarships because we couldn't get who we wanted rather than it being a deliberate choice doesn't help my concerns about depth at certain positions but this type of thing is to be expected with a new coach. At least we are off to a great start with the 2024 recruiting class.

That will be the new norm - 4 and 5 star, a few high end 3 * go to P5 - rest of HIgh School players will be G5 or lower and evaluated on their G5 ability. SEC and Big 10 will have scouts at G5 games looking for potential transfers. We develop them, they swipe them, then we get a few impatient P5 level athletes who just want to play - transferring in. Good times...

Why scouts at games? Just watch tape from TV.

How many times have you watched a game on TV and could see every player on every play? Especially for players in the secondary. I think it's relatively easy for coaches to get All-22 tape so they can see everyone but even then you can't see how players interact with their coaches and teammates off the field, especially when things aren't going their way.

That's more for NFL scouts where millions of dollars are at stake, I don't think there is nearly as much need for scouts in a situation like this but it still has merit.

Sarcasm, poorly executed. I don’t know a thing about college scouting, so just conjecture.

I can never pick up on sarcasm over text without someone putting /s at the end or if it's something completely over the top but it takes a lot to clear that bar on this board.

iirc there were some concerns about overall attendance and season ticket sales dropping due to our midweek games and lack of marquee home matchups. I saw this quote from Ian McCaw that is encouraging along with his answer to how attendance is being addressed during midweek games.
I’m really excited, obviously, about Coach Chadwell, playing our inaugural season in Conference USA. I think our fans are, as well. We are seeing that in terms of season ticket renewals at a really high clip. We are right on about the same pace we were a year ago, and obviously that was a schedule with BYU and Virginia Tech playing at home.

At this point in the 2023 season, my dream scenario is WKU upsets Ohio State and we both stay unbeaten until we meet. Ohio State didn't look unbeatable last week.

Yeah, that's a rather substantial ask of the Toppers.

I just read a App State FB post. Sounds like they're getting 30k plus now. Replies indicate their facilities can't accommodate it. Water fountains turned off. Long lines and complaints about drunks.

We need to get our attendance up to 25k.

I wonder if the $35 ticket to sit in the upper deck student side keeps some away? The Baptist side was full but the upper deck on the students other side mostly empty.

They should heavily market that section to "groups". $10 or $15 per seat based on group size (minimum 10). The ushers would need to closely check seat alignments to prevent those with discounted tickets from moving to higher priced seating.

The two corner sections of the upper deck student side should be GA. It's harder and harder to buy group tickets. I used to as a Pastor. We've taken like 20 before...but more and more people change their minds or don't want to commit. I gave up on taking groups. I do get 6 season tickets so I can take different friends from church, but I'm just not going to risk having to eat the $ when folks change their minds.

But if you made those two sections General Admission, church groups and stuff could fill them up.

I know they have berm tickets for like $15 that I guess you could use for a group...but somehow the berm would be better marketed to families with young kids.

An issue last week for the student/visitor upper deck was the sun and heat. Attendance probably would've been a little better if it was a night game. Either way, that upper deck has been hard to fill, with the exceptions of BYU, Tech, ULL & Army. We should have a little better attendance this week if the storms and rain hold off. I do agree, that they should open it back up as GA. I miss the days of GA, it seemed to me that the Bill filled more with GA vs assigned seats. Just my 3 cents.
