Did you even watch the play? It's not like the turf monster got him and he coughed it up. The ball got punched by an ACC player on his second live play since playing FCS ball. There is a very real difference in competition there. We all saw it, Mack was not alone in getting a little man handled by superior talent.

I can recognize that the fumble was costly but still give credit to the defense. The ball didn't come out by accident, it was sought after and good fundamentals pulled it out.

Maybe Mack carries the ball a little different now, but we didn't pull Buck after two picks, why are we benching Mack after his first fumble?
Maybe because there’s more competition at his position than there was at QB coming into the game.

Of course, that’s not to say there isn’t more competition at QB now going into Week #2.

He was already 3rd on the depth chart behind Pickett and Frankie. Listening to Coach Johnson talk about him gave me indication that Frankie and Pickett were a solid 1 and 2 in the backfield.

I honestly didn't expect him to play much to begin with unless we got blown out of the water.

I hope he rebounds and becomes an asset to our offensive game plan.
Let's be real about it. Listening to Coach Johnson does not tell you much based on the production of the RBs in that game. If you check the record, Mack has a much better resume than Hickerson and Pickett at the FCS level. HCTG staff had nothing but good things to say about this kid during his redshirt year. There is no way this kid, who could had offers out of UMAINE to Purdue, Minnesota, Old D, SU (pref walk-on), Penn State (pref walk), Rutgers, UB, but chose LU due to outstanding recruiting, is a 3rd back in this offense. NO WAY!

Mack led the FCS nation rushing as a sophomore, Walter Payton Award Finalist, NCAA FCS All-American and then transfers to FCS-FBS transition LU, with the same FCS RBs, and he's not in the rotation! NOT POSSIBLE! I DON'T BUY IT! The problem is with the RB coach. The same reason why Frank Boyd chose to leave the RB group. HCHF needs to meet with the RBs and B Johnson to resolve this issue.

Lesson learned regarding fumbles all over the country this past weekend. The difference is that players on other teams were kept in the rotation so they could continue to build their confidence and experience in the first game of the season. The opposite happened with Mack. I've coached for 20 years. I immediately put my RBs back in the game in that situation to show them that I support them even when they mess up. It builds character. It's a part of learning!

Let's hope this issue get's corrected this week! We still have 11 games to go. We need the RBs, including Mack to be at there very best!

If there was more competition at this position, we certainly did not see it in the game...Give me a break!

I see your point but disagree in a few areas. It was one play and it is one player. There is more to be considered than one player. I am all for boosting confidence of a player but when acceptable. Do we know Mack's learning response? The coaches teaching style? What was the conversation on the sideline? What is being taught? In baseball if I put a guy on the mound in a critical situation inning with a runner on and his job is to get outs and four balls are thrown he is probably coming out of the game. Unless, the game at tht point is worth the gamble. I just believe there is much more to be considered and next week is another week.

The fact that we all think it’s odd that he was taken out of the rotation after that play is so odd it lends credence that there is more going on than meets the eye. The fact he got on the field to make an impression in that situation tells me not all the blame lies with the coaching staff

It's not as if anyone else had a ton of carries. Pickett only had 5 carries and if I was critical about anything, I would be questioning as to why the ball was not in his hands on the goaline vs. Mack.
