And round and round we go.
He's got much more upside. We have seen what Masha can do.

And around and around and around.

I disagree for all the points I've made. My concern is if Masha has the confidence needed to be capable of playing to his skill level at this point. HCTG even mentioned this in SOD's write up about the QB situation.
On why he decided to open up the position battle:
HCTG: “It’s probably a little combination of both. When I say both, I’m saying a little bit of Stephon Masha hasn’t played up to his ability. He’s an awesome talent....
My previous question of if HCTG was wanting to get Calvert's feet wet in the first 3-4 games to position him as the starter for the rest of the season was wrong.

Brand new offensive line + unknown quarterback = scary
This is another reason I am concerned about the QB situation. Neither QB has shown anything yet. The indecision doesn't help IMO.

I have known a lot of peop who have not played up to their talent. Note he also did not compare which had more talent.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe 9 of Masha's rushes were against VT and he had 1 this past Saturday. I could see JSU going with the same game plan if Masha starts with forcing him to beat them with his passing. I would get creative. What's the problem with using two QBs? It's puts a lot more pressure/time on a Def coord having to prepare game week for two different QBs

It's hard to gel when you don't decide who is playing what position until the week of a game. We've yet to have the same starting line in back to back games and this week it's completely new. I get that injuries happen but how do we not have more depth and/or talent there? I understand our philosophies at most positions but our offensive line philosophy baffles me. We'd rather guys be decent at every position than great at one.

I believe the O line has played fairly well, all things considered. Two of those things would be inconsistent play by the QB and the injuries that have caused guys to miss playing time, whether it's a game or a series or a quarter. I believe that if you reviewed film and just watched the o line in the two FBS games, you would see the o line didn't get pushed around by either and played fairly sound football. Now, in saying that, there are no excuses for most of the penalties that have occurred. That needs to be fixed. As an aside, I would question some posters that in other threads say the RBs have looked great, but in this thread, say the o line play has not been good. Sorry, but it's really hard to have both and in this case, I don't think it's accurate.

Anyone care to guess how many fans JSU brings with them ? For their 2 home games, they have averaged about 20,000. Their attendance is on par with LU's.
I think they will bring more than most visiting teams.

I think the fact that the staff doesn't want Masha to get hit works against him. If they would have run more option and qb draws it might have loosened up the defense and helped his passing. I still think the best use would be to start Calvert and bring Masha in for a series or two or better yet line him up in the slot. Remember when Rocco turned one of Karcher's former qbs into a running back...I think it was Zach Terrel. I could see Masha being a slash receiver...but I don't think our staff likes to change people's positions (except for the offensive line). I think in order for us to win on Saturday Calvert has to get most of the snaps.

Being a duel threat QB the lack of running the ball has contributed to Masha's lack of good numbers. Teams are playing him as a drop back passer. If he is to be successful he needs to run ball more. Plus a couple of trick plays would loosen up defenses.

Our recent history says we have a shot.

Nothing will surprise me.
I can only speculate the stats and numbers you are citing are from last years JSU team, because this year's team really has not been particularly impressive

Set aside the LSU game and they have a 19 point win over D2 N Alabama and a 1 point squeaker at home over Coastal They should be respected, but certainly not feared

I agree with ballcoach   The title of the Eagle's reunion album comes to mind 8)

IMHO Gill and Daley's failure to use Masha at all last year and failure to use his running ability this year has been puzzling and highly questionable The idea that you would not run a guy like that for fear of injury is just plain dumb 2 hand touch anyone :dontgetit
