Excellent article above by Flames Nation News. I will never forget how bad we looked at G Webb, losing 34-20 to probably the worst team in BSC, a team we should have destroyed.

Than you should blame Flames Nation News. They wrote the article that brought it up.

So how does Woodrum come in second for Conference Offensive Player of the Year to a runningback, but only makes the 2nd All-Conference Team?

Everyone should always bring it up, to prevent it from happening again. That lack of effort should be on everyone's mind, from coaching staff, players, down to the last fan on top row.

This. I can't believe I agree with Ballcoach but yea. again some of us dark siders are a little darker in our thoughts about this season than others but I can't stress enough the frustration enough of how many seasons we have come up short because of stupid games like this one. and even monmouth. I've been reflecting and I'm not even mad about losing to SIU and CSU. We could have still made the playoffs even if we had lost to monmouth. Fortunately I think the majority of the problems will either graduate or be let go. I have already said I'm willing to give HCTG another year. Next year there should be no excuses.

The Big South has always been a joke when giving out these awards-they put no thought into the selections. I'll never forget when they gave Danny Gathings the tournament mvp for the 2004 basketball tourney, when it was clearly obvious Larry Blair deserved it. The following week Gathings gave the trophy to Blair during convo. I bet the conference loved that

On the first day of practice next season, Coach Gill should show tape of G Webb game to the team, as a training aid as to what happens when you "don't come to play". Maybe it would help team not lose to a cupcake next season.

The Danny Gathings fiasco was a result of the decision to have the MVP voting BEFORE the final because quite frankly, it was easier (or that was the thinking anyway). Dealing with the aftereffects clearly ended up being a lot harder than hustling a little to get the votes tabulated after the final would have been. They changed the procedure as a result. To my knowledge though, there has never been any official acknowledgement of of the conference having any problem with the outcome or any recognition of Gathing´s classy gesture. If I recall he won some sort of national sportsmanship award for doing it.

Once again...I disagree with ballcoach. Showing that film isn't going to help them not lose to a cupcake team. that game only needs to be referenced on two occasions: 1) the week of the Gardner-Webb game (which for the record is October 29) and maybe the first day of practice before the Jacksonville or Robert Morris games (take your pick). Constantly drilling the G-W and Monmouth results into their head could have the opposite effect psychologically. All that HCTG needs to do is, the first day of practice, put the date and score of that game on the board, say a word or two about it and how important it is to be ready to play every day every down, and then get to work.

I'd play it again and again. Humble pie can be a good thing. Sometimes reminding people they are t as good as they think they are is good. Plus the tape doesn't lie. Pointing out what a half azz effort looks like is almost as good as showing what good looks like

I think its good to point out what a half baked effort looks like as well, but I didn't say that by only showing it those times I referenced, that you are not reminding them they aren't as good as they think they are. Anyway, I'll agree to disagree on that point.

Nick Saban is a better coach than you BJ. He shows Bama's losses over and over in the weight room and the players can't change the channel.
Do you know that for a fact? Has he ever coached against BJ?

I'd certainly tune-in more often to watch BJ as opposed to ol' Nick. Does that make BeeJay the better coach?

You guys are too kind...Every coach has their own philosophy, from Saban to D'Antonio to Urban Meyer to me. What works for one coach may not necessarily work for another. Does that make one coach better than another or one philosophy better than another? Id say no, but that can depend on the era. Saban had success at LSU and Michigan State before he landed in Tuscaloosa, but he found the perfect fit for his philosophy when he started with Roll Tide. While I understand that you guys are also probably being sarcastic, I really don't think I deserve to be in the same conversation as a multi-time national champion.

I would argue Nick simply found another opportunity to improve even more on what her already done well at Mich St and LSU. It's hard to quantify the benefit of a fresh start. Problem is, few coaches get those kinds of chances.

Good coaches are always thinking of ways to improve what they're doing. Great ones find a way to make those changes, because it isn't easy to change in the moment. But it is much easier to change at the beginning of a new place, in possession of lessons learned from experience. I think that is what has benefited Nick most.

Dolphins: Nick is a process coach through and through. That may not work best in the NFL. Props to him for realizing it so quickly. .. Nick is also very controlling, also a very unlikely trait to work in the NFL.

SuperJon wrote:I think Wagner, Stamn, and Fobbs are the only ones that are in any danger.

Our rushing attack has gotten significantly worse each other the last three years. We rushed for 184 yards per game in 2013, 163 last year, and only 119 this year. At the same time, our total offense has gone from 420 yards per game in 2013 to only 379 this year.

Our special teams have been consistently bad under Gill. I believe a large part of this is because there's no one guy overseeing everything. Fobbs has the title but different people oversee different portions of the unit. With the title comes the responsibility of the entire unit. We need a significant change in strategy in that facet of the game.

Lastly, something has to change in mental preparation. We were 1-5 on the road this year and only one of those games was in an environment that was anything near hostile. We are 4-10 in non conference road games over the past four years. We have to get better at that.
Did anyone notice how finally featuring our TEs effectively, in our last game of the season, opened up our offense? Of course you did. Why did we have to wait until the last game of the season to feature our TEs? We've had a very strong corp ot TEs for the past 8 seasons but you wouldn't know it since we don't consistently show it. Why not?

Go Flames!!!
