I'm all for little stabs here and there but when we win, why does Coastal have to be brought up? Why can't we just celebrate the win?

Why not though? I mean just like you tell me I don't have to respond to everything, you don't always have to make some comment because somebody brought up Coastal. I mean yeah you went there and what not, but you don't always need to put your two cents in and criticize someone else because of it. I'm not saying that to be a jerk either...I'm saying it because I know you are trying to teach me to be a better poster and someone that people are less inclined to make fun of, and I have enough respect for you to ask.

Because it's an embarrassment as a fan base. People across FCS and even the Sun Belt make fun of us because of our fans. Go read some stuff other people say about us and read it without red glasses. I cringe every time I read some of our fans on AGS or the Sun Belt boards. Our fans are constantly trying to prove themselves and it comes across as unintelligent and desperate to be liked. Have confidence in who we are. Worry about our program and not what others are doing. Have some pride and represent our school well.

I'm not upset...just curious. If someone wants to do something stupid, if it doesn't affect you, you don't have to be the one to point it out publicly. Now, if you want to go to them privately about it because youre concerned, that's one thing. But just like its not my job to respond to everything on here as you have often told me, its not your job to make critical comments on a public forum about what other people do...and it definitely isn't your job to make critical comments about how someone is "inside your head".

I'm a Liberty fan. When Liberty fans do stupid things to make Liberty fans look stupid, it makes me look stupid as well.

Also, I didn't point it out when the athletic director tweeted about the Coastal game hours before the first game of the season. I didn't point it out when Mike Tilley talked about the Coastal game 37 times in a given broadcast. And I haven't mentioned 95% of the stupid tweets our fans have sent bringing up Coastal when nothing we did had anything to do with anything they'd done. Before you accuse me of always responding to it, how about you actually have half a clue what you're talking about?

Lastly, arguing with BJ makes me look just as stupid as people tweeting about Coastal.

I'm not worried about being inferior at all. I know where we stand in the FCS paradigm. I just don't want to be lumped in with stupid.

None of this matters, which is exactly why we're talking about it on an internet message board. That's what internet message boards are for. We enjoy arguing about stupid stuff that doesn't matter or else we wouldn't be here.

I genuinely like Coastal and the rivalry that has grown from the initial generation of same, from our athletic administration. They are good, clean respectful, competitors for the most part. I believe they will be an advocate for us if we are invited to join the SBC,
Like Jon, I cringe sometimes when reading other boards at some of our fans. However, every school has them. I can't remember what team's fan it was who was making fun of our students in the front row (Joker's etc) on another board. I do know, that since then I have watched a a lot of FCS games with that in mind. Our fans are no different than any other team's, except better and more enthusiastic. I think they are great (except for the overrated chant).
Now to the negative for me. I do believe they have always had some sort of preferential treatment by the league. Mostly small stuff, not a big deal. The big thing with me is that they play such a very poor OOC football schedule, are ranked much higher than they should be, seemingly based on past year's successes (while good, are not really in the same ballpark as MANY FCS schools). I know they can't control the polls, but they can control their reactions and smugness to it. I am done saying anything about their schedule from here on out, because they have no control over who they play, the rest of the way. Ultimately It is good for us, for them to have such a high ranking.
Finally, some have suggested that we may be jealous. In all honesty, I wouldn't trade where we are for the position they are in, for anything. I just don't see it ending well for them. They are going from one of the top teams in one division to a mid-level team in the bottom-feeder conference in in FBS. With their lack-luster fan support now, I don't see them ever being able to garner the support needed to meet the "supposed" attendance level requirements for FBS. Would I like to see LU become FBS? I think so, even though Purple does have me considering that staying where we are, has it's positives. The opportunity for LU to go into the FCS playoffs every year, vs. the slim chance of CCU going to a FBS Toilet Bowl game occasionally, is certainly preferable. But that is for another thread.
