Just tweeted a correction.

How in the world do they have so much confidence in a home game and then get outbid?

We screwed ourselves. We lost to Richmond so they wouldn't send Richmond to us. They couldn't send JMU, a team playing great with a ton of money, to Liberty.

Had we beaten CSU or Richmond we'd be hosting.

We didn't get shafted. We are the new kids on the block thus don't have the benefit of the doubt.

Mogs is very motivational, has a great organization strategy by empowering his coaches (something that's huge) but there's just something 'used car salesmen' about him I find off putting

Couldn't be how he parlayed owning one UFL team into owning/coaching another and then turned that into the CCU job, could it? He is very 'used car salesman' on his best days, but he's figured out a CEO approach to coaching that may be one of the few structural changes to the profession to really stick in a long time.

This is spot on. Football programs are so big that a HC needs to implement this approach. It's what I think Gill is trying to do but obviously doesn't have the experience of Moglia. IMO, that type of approach is going to be what separates teams in the future and why Coastal so successful

I love the idea of Coastal Carolina playing Rocco's Richmond in the second round. Definitely pulling for BSC Coastal over CAA's Rocco's Richmond (and wondering who Super Jon will be rooting for in that game).

Does anyone know where LU is ranked now?

After 2 full minutes of thinking:

I love this scenario.

JMU has been a part of "the hump" since 2009, just like William & Mary was for the 4 years prior. I want this team to have another shot at that program. We might not match up well with them. We might get spanked. But the playoffs now present a bigger opportunity next weekend.

We couldn't buy our way into FBS. We can't buy a home game here. I don't mind that. We don't need to continue feeding the spoiled rich kid from NJ persona.

If only we had some intrepid print and/or online reporters to ask the question: How did JMU beat us out for a home game? Obviously the AD thought we had a home game

But let me wax poetic.... This is yet another microcosm of what is wrong with the LU mentality. Instead of being thrilled to be in, people are whining about who we are playing. Instead of earning a home game, we feel we are entitled to a home game because......we have money and we are Liberty. We see a conspiracy when really we were treated like any new team to the playoffs.
We won. We are in the playoffs. We get to play a team that will be fun and competitive. In short ENJOY! And I can't believe the Potentate of the Dark Side is the one who has to bring it up

I have watched JMU a few times this year on ASN. They are REALLY GOOD on Offense. Their QB is virtually unstoppable. They destroyed Richmond here. It wasn't pretty. The defense of Liberty will be tested for sure.

First reaction, since it's a bit early out here, was a groggy "how does that happen?" Now, it's simply this, "Screw 'em." Let's go on the road, beat the snot out of them, take their lunch money, and then go whip Villanova's backsides as well.

A lot of it comes down to bidding, but there are many other things to consider. There are also rematch considerations, conference considerations, etc.

The committee's goal is to create regional match ups where teams can travel by bus and fans can easily get to. If you look at that goal, and look at the teams that got in, you're left with four teams to fit into two games:

Liberty
JMU
Richmond
Morgan State

Now, the rules state that conference opponents can't play a rematch in the first round. The eliminates the possibility of Richmond at JMU.

We significantly outbid Richmond, so there's no way the committee can justify sending us to Richmond. However, they can't punish Richmond, who beat us at Liberty already this year and has a better overall case, by sending them back to Liberty. That eliminates any combination of Liberty vs Richmond.

Only one scenario is left: Liberty at JMU or JMU at Liberty.

JMU is arguably the 9th or 10th best team in the country right now. They also are the only other school around here than can compete money wise or stadium wise. If the bids were anywhere near each other, the committee is going to choose JMU and their history over us and our weaker case. They're going to reward JMU for their harder schedule and better results. It's just the nature of the beast.

Barber and the admin did everything they could possibly do to get us a home game. They bid well over $100k when the minimum bid is $30k. This just happened to be a year where our record and the teams around us geographically worked against us.

Beat CSU and you have a case for us hosting JMU.

Beat Richmond and you have a case for us hosting JMU or Richmond.

Beat both and we're possibly a top-8 seed and off next weekend.

Oh believe me I'm enjoying it and don't mistake my question for whining. I just thought the bidding process for home games in the first round was more black and white. I didn't realize all the subjectiveness involved.

I was mad, and now I'm pumped.

Think about it. This would put a check mark in every freaking box that has plagued us for years around here.
Beat App St. (and prove something to every member of the SBC)- Check
Beat Coastal at their place- Check
Win the outright conference championship- Check
Make it to the playoffs- Check
Beat JMU - ?
Win a playoff game- ?

The last two are right in front of us on Saturday. Let's go, boys!

The worst part of playing at JMU for me is I can't swing the trip. I could justify 2.5 hours up to Lynchburg from my in-laws in NC. I can't justify 3.5-4 up to Harrisonburg and coming back at night.

Unfortunately the loss to CSU took that chance away. We're co-champs with Coastal.
At least we are "co-champs" with the win on our side. I feel <better> about claiming this "championship."
