Speaking of other peeps message boards, over on app 's they are calling this the worst loss in school history. Give me a break. They are acting like they lost to some cellar dweller d3 school. It's nice to knock them off their high horse. Any way enjoy tonight fellas. Great win as ugly as is was.

The App players generally pray after the game as a team. There's quite a strong Bible study group that is player led (remember App is a public university; the coaches have their own Bible study). I doubt the failure to join LU in prayer was an FCA failure.

Congratulations on the win.

Finally a win in a tight game. We still have a lot of worts on special teams and defense. Woodrum petey lunsford and abnar have all stepped up. Now hagen needs some help on defense. Hopefully we can get some of our injured guys back with a 2 week break. Call me crazy but i dont think were comp out of an at large bid if all our opponents keep playing well. I mean we could end up 8 and 4 with losses to a power 5 conf team and 3 top 15 fcs teams. A long way to go though.

I love it!

After a lifetime loving, working, and studying at Duke as well, I advise my LU brethren here to embrace the hate, it means we're doing something right!

It it funny reading some of their posts. Apparently the SB is just below the SEC in the conference power rankngs.

A solid win tonight. Nothing to beat our chests about, but still a win. We were opportunistic, kept competing, and won the game.

The offense played great tonight. Still a couple of lingering issues, but you can't really complain about 55 points.

We have got to fix the defensive and special teams issues. If a couple of plays don't go our way, this is Richmond/ODU part II (or part III :D). We cannot keep relying on the other team to cough away a victory. Its time to start taking control of games and imposing our will on the other team. There have been a couple of key injuries, but they are no excuse for how horrifying the defense is right now. I didn't really have a problem with the opening kickoff onside, but a couple of the other ST plays/decisions were really bad. Together, these things are going to kill us in a Big South game (other than Coastal), if they don't get fixed.

No 8-4 Big South team is getting an at-large. We have to win the Big South auto-bid to make the playoffs.

Why would you think I have an axe to grind, I hate poor db play, period. I hate poor lb play period, I hate poor dl play period. Todays backend play was atrocious, on several accounts. Today the Offense carried us, and thankfully the running game kept the defense from having to stay on the field. I will stick to my statement tho that having another 22 schollies possibly on the field would have played a part in helping us win this game. Luckily, the same D that was a problem was the same D that won the game for the team as well.

No disrespect taken. The nice thing about boards like this is the chance for insights you might otherwise have missed.

Winning covers a multitude of sins. Nice to finally come out on the right side of a close game - sitting there in Kidd Brewer it seemed like last week all over again. It might not have been pretty, but after so many heartbreaks, finally getting a W felt good. We've got some good mojo heading into the bye, and if our LBs can get healthy and HCTG whips special teams into shape, I think we can make a run. Coastal is overrated, Gill's undefeated in November, and we've beaten a ranked SC team to end the season before. LET'S GO FLAMES! FINISH STRONG!

And AppFan82, a friend and I were on the home side by the season ticket holders - nothing but class from the App fans that surrounded us. We really appreciated the hospitality, and can say we sympathize with how you feel after this game after last week against UR. Hope y'all can turn the corner here and get some wins in the next few weeks. GoApps!

I hate the bend-but-don't-break defensive philosophy as much as the next guy, but is it possibly a result of our coaches realizing that we don't have the talent to play stiffer defense? Ultimately, if we don't have the talent, it's a result of recruiting misses and/or injuries. The first is a coaching issue, I admit, but injuries cannot be helped.

Don't just be on defense, PLAY defense! Dictate, don't react!

Maybe we don't have the guys for that? If we don't, could it be considered good coaching to be able to recognize that and adjust?

I haven't heard that in years! Way to go old school.

As for your last point. Yes.

Still pumped about yesterday's win. Not pretty, but a win is a win, especially against a FBS team. (I still hate bend don't break defense). GO FLAMES!!!!!!

Its been said already but this is an important win for us. Maybe not as much for playoff considerations, but for team confidence. To go into a bye week on a three game losing streak (the first since 2012) would do some serious damage because the guys would have two weeks to think about all the shortcomings we have had and that much negativity could have spiraled to a level only rivaled by the losing streak we had in 05.

Now, by winning a close FBS OVERTIME game, the guys can relish in that success and now as we get a couple weeks to heal up and for the coaches to hit the recruiting trail again (and remind the apparently weak minded recruits bluejacket noted in other threads that we crushed the same CSU bunch that lost by 1 to a bad Vanderbilt squad yesterday...in their building no less) and get ready to continue our new home Big South winning streak in two weeks (and not give up a deep play action pass for a TD like the last time G-W came to town)

A Vandy win for CSU > An AppState win for LU, so I don't think we can say our win in OT decidedly trumps their 1-point loss.

Most around the league are saying CSU's loss is more impressive than our win, and I can't say they're that wrong.

I hate to be THAT guy... but I watch CSU play last night and I watched the PC Coastal game before our game against "lets go Peay!" I really find it hard to see us beating all 3... maybe its the dark side. Maybe its the fact that i've seen this "win a huge game OOC(Elon 2009) and still wind up with a WTFrack game in conference" too many times. But i just don't see us making the playoffs AGAIN this year...

The most important thing about this win WASNT who we beat but how we beat them. Finally, after all of this time we beat a school that had equal or slightly better talent than ours in a close game. The players and coaches proved it to themselves and others. This does not mean we will win all of them from here on out. But it does show we are capable. That, IMHO, is the greater take away than who we beat compared to who CSU ALMOST beat

Mostly because the worst SEC team probably still beats the worst Sun Belt team by 2+ touchdowns (the best SB could make a game of it if they don't win straight up). PC looks like theyll give a few other BSC coaches indigestion before the season is over...and CSU plays them next

QFT The confidence gained from yesterday could prove invaluable. if we get into a close game here over the final 5, they (players and coaches) have this game to go back to in their minds

I agree. There is no shame in saying that their loss was better than our win. If you compare their level of play with ours, CSU definitely outplayed us overall and it was against stronger competition.

Regardless, we get to settle it on the field.

Factor in the absence of Christian Reyes from the Bucs backfield and their performance in Nashville was even more impressive. I have been on the Chuck South bandwagon since well before the season started and they have exceeded my expectations every step of the way. And don't sleep on Monmouth. They have been much improved this fall as well.
