In the paraphrased words of Prince I had to deal with this thing called life. And it's a mighty long time!
Sorry you lost the gig, Beej.

Truthfully, to lose and make so few mistakes is frustrating. I thought that key errors were made on three 3rd downs; for us, one which was followed by a bad or maybe partially blocked punt. The other for us was when we had to settle for a field goal at the end- that would have been the game. It was interesting to hear, rather obliquely, that the exchange on third down between Richardson and Woodrum was not supposed to be an exchange, but a fake. Woodrum said that the play was designed as a keeper and he would have scored... . The third down that we blew on defense was the fake on the punt. We seem to have some recurring special teams errors. Other than missed tackles, which both teams had, we only had a few mistakes, but Coastal had less. I hope that the team doesn't have their confidence shaken by this, as games at GW and CSU will be hotly contested. Maybe the best outcome now is that Coastal runs the table and gets an easier walk to the finals, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see us win out, and them lose a game.
On a positive note Des Rice was a beast tonight and Woodrum had a great game. Early on the D forced CCU to punt, which is pretty rare.

I agree, and when we took shots, AKA that third down on the drive we only got 3 points from at the end, it was huge

I stayed till the end and yelled my guts out, but had no confidence that we would close it out in the fourth...and we didn't. I've become too emotionally invested. Our team is such a tease. The win is right there (up by 19 in the third), and I actually start believing that were might win a real game. When they got within 8, I knew we would find a way to lose...had no doubt...seen this show before. I should have left then.

They both had great games, and the WR had some great catches. Yeah we stopped them on their first 2 series and we were driving until the INT, then they go right down and score. Guess it didn't matter, if we were up by 30 we would have found a way to lose it.

How do you give so many 4th downs including the fake punt which we should have been expecting????

The better team (4th ranked Coastal) beat an unranked team, us. It's how we lost that makes it hard to digest, especially after the heart breaker at ODU. I thought we played exceptionally well throughout the game. Just couldn't make a stop in the second half. Their 4th down conversions, 2 point conversion and the conversion of a fake punt all had to go perfectly for them to beat us - they were perfect.

The students never filled up their section and the "fans" left at half time and then throughout the game. That was especially disappointing and couldn't have helped.

Yippee! By the way, my kids all raced this morning and they all won a trophy, even though they lost... well the three year old came in second. Ties are the new championships!

So who thought our D would end up being what comes up short in this game? I'm trying to find a bright side in such gut wrenching loss. Our offense really had it clicking tonight.

I wasn't able to go. I will say what I said before, our schedule sets us up to lose close games. At the same time, it makes sure our season is over if we don't win the conference.

This year, we played two 1A schools and one d2 school, and we will play one more d2 school. None of these games will help us make the playoffs, that's 4 wasted oppertunities.

Next year I believe we play 2 fbs schools, and we'll probably play a d2. That's 3 wasted oppertunities.

We'd be better off playing all fcs schools. I don't care if we have to play 7 road games and 4 home games. We're FCS, and we need FCS wins to make the playoffs, and we need to play full scholarship FCS teams to learn how to win close games before conference play. I could understand playing one d2 for either the first home game or homecoming.

Instead, we play close against d1 teams, and blow out d2 teams, but we don't know how to win a close game, because our out of conference schedule does not prepare us. These are not the Karcher days when we needed the FBS paycheck. It's not needed. Coastal could have lost this game and still made the playoffs. I don't think their team is light years ahead of us, but they have scheduled much smarter.

That's just my opinion.

I'll give the fans some slack...look at Richmond...they won National championships and their students don't show up.

I didnt go, best choice i made all year. I wont waste my time the rest of the year either to celebrate destroying brevard vmi and the blue panty hose. Thats the only way i know how to voice dissatisfaction with the state of our program. I still love gill the leader and i hope hes the guy but were now 1 and 9 against respectable opposition under gill and 1 and 3 at home. Thats just not acceptable to me.

No. I don't think people need to be fired. People just need to learn from their mistakes. I hope our schedule 2 years from now is better. I hope before the next game we fix the FG blocking issue.

Anyway, I plan on coming to the rest of the games. What's my mantra...I'm still a flamesfan. I'll still be cheering. No matter what.

Yup! Up by 19 and still find ways to lose. How about we give the team a poster with 4QP on it....Four Quarters of Play. Have to sadly agree that yet another season is lost. But maybe Liberty can be co-champs and claim Big South Champs again as Coastal goes to the playoffs.

BJWilliams wrote:Well maybe everyone will feel better if we just fire all the coaches...and maybe the AD too...that should make you all happy right?
People are always going to be way more irrational and emotional right after a tough loss. Its only natural.

This is Gill's 2nd season. If he still can't get it done 2 years from now that is a whole other story.

Lets not pretend this kind of thing for Liberty football is unique to Coach Gill. I don't know what is about our football program and not being able to close out in big game situations, it is just frustrating.

With that said, nobody is even hinting Gill should be fired. People are frustrated.

I was and still am frustrated. It is the same story every year and now our athletic department is spewing crap like #FBSready and filling our heads with all kind of hope it makes losses even more difficult to swallow.

I can't even fully formulate my thoughts right now.

If it makes anyone feel any better, here's a link to a picture from LU football in 1998. About 55 people in the band (including me), and about 3,000 in the stands (although the box score listed it around 10,000, if I remember). And there was great weather.

We've come pretty far in attendance in 15 years.

I hope the link works, I never have tried to link to a twitter pic before.
