Well Montana got beat by App St and yesterday the Citadel crushed App St in Boone, NC 52-28. So let's not crown Montana all that yet. Howard beats Norfolk St. FSU could have beat WF worse.. up 38-0 at half. How tough is our tough schedule?
Okay, I'll bite.
Using transitive properties, it certainly is difficult to tell how tough our schedule is. If anything, the program lacked depth at a few key positions, and those positions have been hit hard. Lacking depth, I believe, has more to do with a previous regime that put all its eggs into one basket (last season), and then bolted when the expectations beyond that basket were made clear. But one thing is true: relative to the schedules played in recent history, it is by far our toughest; and not just because Liberty is losing. So, relatively, the toughness of this scheudle cannot be disputed.
Injuries happen. It's a violent sport. No one deserves to be fired for them. NO ONE! So, let's please stop that ridiculous talk right there.
Liberty's football team has yet to win a conference championship outright in the Big South auto-bid era. This could still be the year. And if it is, whther or not its the most talented team in the program's history, it will be the most historic moment in its history. And then, there will be more to come thereafter. This team can still achieve more than any team before. An outright conference championship has always been and continues to be the goal. Giving this staff time to figure itself and its team out, while enduring a more relatively difficult schedule than the previous ever faced, is something I am more than willing to do.
Money does not equal wins, nor are wins the only thing that matters at Liberty University. Its been documented ad nauseum here how much more funding all of our athletic programs receive and dispense as compared to the rest of the Big South. But steady growth fortifies a stronger foundation, while requiring some semblance of patience. Expectations and urgency are great; understanding and realism are, too. Let us not forget the numerous ways in which lives are still being positively impacted for Christ at Liberty University, through its athletic department as well as numerous other areas. Winning will continue to be a byproduct of that impact.
