I think this has been said on a couple of occasions, but Liberty is in a difficult place as far as scheduling goes. To teams in power conferences, we arent a high quality enough team (even during the DR years) where winning would do them good in the final analysis (for postseason play) and certainly would do them significant harm in a loss, but at the same time, we arent bad enough to where itd be a "easy victory". Because of that, you dont see teams like GSU, App State, Wofford, Delaware, Villanova, Northern Iowa, Illinois State, North Dakota State, et al. ringing our phone off the hook to play games in Lynchburg.
Most important statistic to remember...

Playoff appearances:
App State = 17
LU = 0

We WILL NOT have anyone "ringing our phone off the hook" until that number changes.

We just need to make the playoffs next year. At the end of the day a Big South Title is nice for recruiting but kids want to play on a national level for a championship.

That's a big prediction, I plan to be at the game - Kent State is No. 18 in the latest FBS Polls.

I dont think its as simple as making the playoffs in 2013...it certainly will help, but the success of the last few seasons (even this year with the run we went on) will help as well. Teams are taking notice of how loud the student side that is for sure

That makes 0 sense ( :BS ).

Our student section plays such a small part of having bigger FCS schools and eventually FBS schools coming to visit the 'burg. At the end of the day, Jerry Moore and the App State team look for OOC games that will beat the heck out of their players, so that when they get to the SOCON part of their schedule they will be ready to grind it out and win the important games.

The end of the season comes and when a team like App State can go 8-3 (6-2 SOCON) and not get the auto-bid for the SOCON, they want big wins such as Montana this year that will carry them into the playoffs. For LU to become that team, they need to be a historically good/great team. This is measured by the playoffs.

** I apologize for continuing to use the App State example but it is where I am currently living so it is in my face all the time.

I didnt mention the student section as a sign of our level of greatness, or the effect it has on our scheduling necessarily (or at least I didnt mean to).

If making the playoffs was the only way to measure the quality of a team, then there are a lot of teams that would be ruled out of that discussion, even with the expansion to 24 next year.

We have a very solid OOC schedule with Richmond and ODU and Kent State, plus we still have three more home games to fill, Im sure the people who are responsible for things like that are working hard to fill those with quality opponents

What about playing a team like New Hampshire from the CAA, that would provide some quality comp next year for a possible home game and if you play good comp early I guess as was proven this year it can only make you stronger during conf play.

Kent has been the huge surprise this year, now being ranked #17 and on the verge of possibly getting into a BCS bowl if they win this week (and one loss of a higher ranked team). Trayion Durham and Dri Archer (MAC special teams player of the year) are the main backs with both over 1000 yards each and with I believe 14 TDs each. Darrell Hazell has also won the MAC coach of the year as well. Kent will definitely not be a push over team like we all thought at the beginning of the year.

Point is, they made the move lightning quick to get him after they fired their coach (who was the handpicked successor for Joe Tiller)

I am offended by your tone. Perhaps you are being sarcastic but its difficult to know on a board. I'm sure lots of people look at J/K and realize it stands for Jerk/Knudsen and that's something we should stay above! :D

Oh Purple...(shakes head and chuckles to himself) sometimes I think you try too hard to make jokes where there really arent any...what would be funny is if there actually was a law or accounting firm with those names on it

Hi everyone this will be my first post on here. I am a student and I help out the team so I believe I am a reliable source. As far as schedule for next year I haven't heard any confirmations on any schedule updates for next season. Looking forward to the Kent State, ODU, and especially the Richmond game. Does anyone know if we are looking into scheduling Stony Brook or I've even heard rumors of William and Mary.
