Not too sure that Glenville plays the good Div 2 competition. The conference they play in is pretty weak. I always thought that the conference with the PA schools ( W Chester, Indiana PA, Bloomsburg, Edinboro) and the Gulf South (with S. Alabama, Delta State, Valdosta state, and others) is much better competition. I don't think that the WV conference measures up to the best of Div 2. The conference St Paul is in is probably better overall competition. Just trying to make comparisons here but I am certainly no expert on Div 2 ball.

It is true that the WVIAC is not held in great esteem among the DII folks. But as we saw last year against Concord, they can be good enough to put a scare into you if you don't play well. I get the feeling that motivation isn't going to be a problem this fall for us.

And Bloomsburg was winning 3-zip two minutes into the 4th quarter. I have a feeling some of the schools who have been snikering at LU on the boards through our struggles the past couple of years are in the process of being brought back down to earth.

Now let's not allow Glenville State to kill our optimistic attitude on campus. We need another big crowd to help this team build some momentum before we head to Towson.

I am definately going to the Towson game since I am about 1 1/2 hours from there. Maybe I could meet you there somewhere. Should be a good game in which to evaluate how the team will stack up agains't good competition. Looking forward to seeing these guys in action since it has been a long time (I used to go to 5 games a year back when we were respectable). In my opinion Towson is middle of the pack A10 team at best so I think our chances are good that we can beat or at least give them a good close game. A win would go a long way in showing how much this program is progressing and will give us a sense of confidence as we compete against the likes of W & M, Wake, and WCU. I wonder if anyone else is thinking about making the trek down to Towson.

Everyone will point to the lopsided score in Lynchburg last year, but that Towson game was the one that the Flames laid a complete egg in (well, that one W&M, YSU, NSU -- you get the point). Didn't show up. Didn't play hard. Didn't give a crap. Towson ran all over them, then got punked the next week in Williamsburg. I'd expect at least a better effort from Liberty's end this time.

I'm thinking about it, for sure.

Gonna have to see how I could make things work out.

and SLY, I don't think there will be a letdown over another D2 school, merely because the majority of casual fans (students on campus, anyway) don't know the difference between Glenville State and Appy State.

If its not a "Bowl Division" team, they seem to equate them all.

I'm just glad to see the turnout and excited about just how packed "the Bill" will be for homecoming. Nice weather and you could see the grass end packed with kids as well as standing room only in the stands. Can you say 15k? :D

Ok, maybe I'm getting carried away, but then again, I never thought I'd see 8400 on a rainy Thursday night against St Pauls.

I'm still trying to justify the expense of airfare to come up for Homecoming. Its quite a bit of scratch for one day. And I have Friday night responsibilities with a high school football show that I may have trouble avoiding.

Now back to the topic of Glenville State, doing some research it appears they had a terrific QB last season who led them to that terrific record. But he's gone now and they appeared to have trouble reloading this past week. I e-mailed the Glenville SID to see if he'd drop by here to give us some info ont he Pioneers. If he visits, show him some hospitality.

JC smith was winless last year i believe and were blown out many times, so this could spell a very easy victory for the flames this week.

SuperJon -

Getting those votes already is making you a little nervous, isn't it???? It is exactly as I thought. It's not about who you play at this point of the season, it's who's looking at you. If we can dominate against the bad teams, it will at least allow the voters to look closer at our team. Talent wise - I think we have are better than those years we were ranked every year in the 90's. Most coaches and SIDs will not be able to ignore 4-0 and the talent that is here.

We will see, but SJ, I would start preparing your post:)

We said it had to be top 25, not receiving votes.

No matter what, if we're 4-0, I think we'll both be happy.

The posts above hit the nail on the head. To make the next step, as a football team, we need to pound the inferior teams to us. We should have spanked St. Paul's and we did. (We could have beat them a lot worse but we did the right thing by getting our starters out of that mess of a field).

Now we have to do the same to Glenville State. We're supposed to beat them, and we're supposed to beat them bad. When we start beating the St. Paul's and Glenville State's by 30-40, we'll start getting some looks at the top 25.

Postman - How dare to re-highjack this thread with your Glenville state post. It will never work. It's pretty much a bye week - we all know that - end of analysis:)

I'll be there and it should be a great game. The one thing I'm looking for is Jennings to gain 250 yards so the BSC can stop ripping us off with the player of the week honors. It would not shock me - if Jennings ran for 400 yards in a game - if the BSC would honor a kicker for hitting 2 field goals instead.

yeah....well whatever the BSC is a joke conference anyways, I look foward to the day when we can finally get out of this freaking conference, but we must win here first before moving on to something bigger....

As for Rashad, if he stay healthy I see him being player of the year in BSC....but then again this is the big south, so if he rushes for 1300 yards and 21 TD's that may not be enough...because you know there is such great talent in this conference or something

How did the BSC rip off Jennings this week? (Am I correct in assuming that is what you are inferring in your message?)Mizzer for VMI had more yardage on less carries w/ just as many TDs as Jennings. Yes, Davidson is a lousy opponent, but are they that much worse than St. Paul's?

The BSC didn't rip Jennings off. Mizzer turned in a great performance and the conference had to make a choice. Mizzer played the entire game against a I-AA (albeit non-schollie) team and his late 63-yard TD was the difference. Jennings was pulled in the 3rd against a D2 that realistically never had a prayer. It's only a weekly award and I have no problem w/ Mizzer getting it. Considering the Keydets schedule and that Mizzer is a senior who hasn't exactly been durable, it may be the last one he ever wins. (That wasn't a dig at VMI, I'm being serious.)

I didn't say the BSC is or isn't a joke, that wasn't the issue of my post...I was just wondering why people were complaining about Jennings not getting the Player of the Week award. To me, it seems like Mizzer was an appropriate choice. Believe it or not, not every decision that is made by the league is a conspiracy against Liberty.
