Plus, that would require printing tickets for students, something we don't currently do.

I don't know of any way, other than printing actual tickets for the students that day, that we will be able to do a "If you come, you get ____ in return."

Hand the ____ out at the end of the game would be the basic idea, Id think. Obviously certain circumstances would tinker with the specifics but the idea seems legit.

My family and I are planning to be at the Elon game. Looking for a good game and a playoff celebration. :D

Here's a creative idea: have a donor promise to buy playoff tickets for X number of students. And if students go to the Elon game, then they get a FREE playoff ticket.

What if the game's in Montana, Maine, New Hampshire, or some other place that 95% of the students couldn't go to? How is that appealing?

or have like a certain number of $25 or $50 gas cards to be given out to students during the game. Not just given out to every student, but like, when each student enters they put their name in for a drawing, and every Liberty touchdown, ten names get drawn and win a prize

Great thought, CJ...but agree with SJ. It will be a tough sell if the game is out of traveling distance.

Do you think most students follow the I-AA playoff schedule that closely?

Ask the :oldhag about the time it was announced that students would get an excused absence from class if they went to the Big South Conference championship game in basketball down in Charleston, SC years ago. Talk about a mass exodus: the only ones left on campus were the faculty and few international students who didn't have cars.

All that is to say, students will travel, if the right carrot is placed in front of them.

I would fully expect round one to be an arduous 2 hour trek up to JMU.

Yeah. Harrisonburg sounds logical as a 1st round location. Also App St in Boone, NC is also a logical choice.

As is Spartanburg, SC. The thing is though, each year one team gets sent somewhere insanely far away. Also, there's no guarantee that we could buy up 5000 tickets at an away venue.

At first, I just assumed since this topic was brought up, that the game was on Thanksgiving weekend...but I just looked at the schedule...you guys get that whole thanksgiving week off?? Wow.

In addition to the other good ideas to keep the kids on campus, I still kinda like the idea of a great free concert... In an ideal world, I'd schedule a DC Talk reunion -- or at least some combination of TobyMac, Tait, and/or Kevin ... That would be an event worth staying for.

As a bonus, I'd open with another LU band that's either doing well, has done well, or is an up-and-comer ---- My Epic, for example.

I know that the University of South Carolina brings in Hootie & the Blowfish on big occassions (they all met while students there). We similarly tap Tait --- but a DC Talk reunion would be lights out.

Want to feel old? The current freshman class was FIVE years old when DC Talk was at their highest in '95. As Tait was playing "In the Light" on Saturday, I was looking around and realized the only people singing along were people who I thought looked 10 years older than me.

I'm getting old.

I still think DC Talk would be a huge draw for students...but guys, that is not happening..

The best idea is somehow working out a way to get kids an extra day off on the otherside of break..I know they don't print out student tickets, but they could hand out some kind of pass when students present their ID at the gates so they can get there excused absence pass....

that would get quite a few kids who don't want to go because they will lose a day at home....not everybody will take them up on the offer...but I am sure a good amount would

Why not a rescheduled Thursday Night game? The students are still here plus a possible cable channel pickup? Just a thought.

Absolutely no way Elon goes for that. They play at App the week before they play us.

Otherwise, this is a time for the local business to step up. I like the major give away ideas. I think it could be the give away "event" of the year. Gas cards, resturant cards, electronic cards, movie cards, etc. could draw a lot of people. For goodness sakes, they gave away a car. It doesn have to go that far, bur why not. Its the last game of the regular season, senior day, and the biggest game to hit LU in years. Do a blow out! Make it worth the students staying here one more day. Free tuition % breaks, meal tickets, one semester's textbooks free, anything that students really want.

For some reason it hadnt even occured to me this will be senior night. School definitely needs to step up and encourage students to stay for the game. Last chance to see some of the best flames football players in a Liberty Jersey. With the 20 or so players we have leaving this year, and what they have done for this program the last few years, a huge crowd should almost be demanded to show support and thanks for what these guys have done.

Why bribe the kids with gas cards, major give aways, etc. You start paying (which we have done occasionally in the past), the students to go to games and the expectations are set that this should continue.

I don't mind something less tangible like a day or two off the other side of the holiday, free dorm room for the extra night or two, etc. "but give me something to attend the game" , no thanks.

If I am a student and my football team has a chance to go to the playoffs for the first time, I am there period.

Amen.

The importance of the game is what kids have to understand, not giving them something.

That's great and all, but most of our students don't have a clue. Even if we beat into their heads how important the game is I don't see them caring enough to stick around.

Then fine, they're not here. The thing is, if you start giving something away, students start expecting it, and they expect the giveaways to constantly get better. You can't set that precedence.
