Forget the math folks. I'd much rather get the biology profs involved to double check the weight of that blue whale!

Does anybody else worry about 1 and a half blue whales being parked on our brand new field turf? It makes me nervous seeing that thing parked on it. It annoys me when those motorcycles drive on it on July 4th every year.

I believe the "300 tons" refers to the LIFTING CAPACITY, rather than the WEIGHT, of the machine.

That's not an inordinate amount for this particular type of crane to hoist. It would be the max load at a specific angle.

Obviously, some cranes are capable of more than that- just that this one is capable of driving around, then setting up on site.

Genius flows from me.

BTW- hoping "Kevin" got that issue he had on the upper deck straightened out.

Will post those pics later (when I figure out how to do it)

Like LUconn said earlier- you have to stand on the field to appreciate just how friggin' huge this thing is gonna be. Even MrsPA was impressed.

Of course if they were to actually lift something that weighed 300,000 pounds, that much PLUS the weight of the crane would be on the turf. I'm sure this isn't the first time something like this has been done. I would think it would be a lot trickier if it were natural grass.

Did you ever go through the time lapse to see if you could see yourself waving at the camera?

of course I did.

1600 or 1615- thereabouts.

I could see me, MrsPA, his royal highness that filmeth from above, and you.

right in the middle of the field.

EDIT: 1613 hours.

if anyone cares: my brief stopover included a review of the construction progress, a quick trip to Snow-flex, and a check of the new (to me) perimeter road. BTW: the site for the rest of the tennis courts is being graded- will be nice to have them. Not sure where they'd put the clubhouse, though. Oddly enough, I wasn't consulted on the details.

here's my pics (not a word about quality- I have the basic instamatic type, and set it for 7 mp 16 x 9 for some reason) : PICTURES

Very nice pics providing some different angles than I typically see posted. Thanks from your favorite Texan.

the stadium will be truly amazing, and - not typically an outdoorsman- I was impressed by the ski lodge.

I do admit to having a different shooting style. It's called "randomized shots from 65 inches"

Excellent photos, Medic.

I've never seen them taken at such a low angle. It's almost like you're looking up at everything, like the height where an averaged sized guy would be sitting in a chair taking pics. 8)
