Thanks RVA... so basically, we don't know yet.

- Could be announcement of an opening game with a D-1.
- Stadium expansion plans/schedule.
- Intentions to pursue FBS or conference move

Hope it is a good one, or all three.

I'll take stadium expansion first. FBS will come when we get big time facilities (well on our way).

I hear ya, I think an indoor practice facility would also be good !

They should think about that BEFORE they start that new BaseBall stadium.
They will have Baseball players walking up the hill to the stadium, and all the room will be taken for an indoor facility, so then the football players will be hiking across town to practice.

Penn State is like that... they just started building stuff, and now the indoor facilities are a half mile from the locker rooms, stadium and outside practice fields.
Bites when you have to walk a half mile in the rain to get to the indoor practice field.
VT has a great setup, every right there together.

Very nice hire. You'll be FBS in three years. 8)

It'll be interesting to see what direction Coastal goes in. Kerwin Bell would be logical, if the OC job at UF wasn't vacant. If they go the high school route, even though they are somewhat cash strapped due to Bennett's contract, I'd be shocked.

another good piece by LANG - not sure if it was posted elsewhere...

http://www2.newsadvance.com/sports/2011 ... r-1547125/

this answers some questions on compensation:
the great Chris Lang wrote:Gill signed a five-year contract. Terms were not disclosed, but Barber said Gill was making at least as much as former coach Danny Rocco, whose salary was believed to be in the $400-450,000 range. Kansas, which fired Gill after this season, owes its former coach $6.4 million for the three years remaining on his contract. Gill told Barber he wanted extra money to spend on his assistant coaches.
so @ 750 then 8)

Here are a few good articles from our scribe I'm only posting a little so he can get the hits:

Liberty takes step toward FBS move

Bill Carr’s firm, Carr Sports Associates, has helped a lot of schools make the transition from the Football Championship Subdivision to the Football Bowl Subdivision. CSA’s list of clients includes Texas State, Texas-San Antonio and South Alabama, all of whom are in the process of upgrading, and current Sun Belt schools Troy, Florida Atlantic and Florida International, all of whom started as I-AA football programs.

So Carr is well versed in what a school needs to make the jump. Liberty chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr., announced Thursday that a feasibility study to explore the move from FCS to FBS is already under way, and that the study should be concluded by February or March. CSA is conducting the study.

“Liberty greatly values its membership in the Big South Conference, but given the unexpected turn of events, we believe the time is right to conduct this study,” Falwell said. “Due to the changes we have all seen in the college football landscape, we need to thoroughly evaluate the future of Liberty University football.”

Liberty Welcomes Gill as Coach

The scene Thursday was startlingly different than the last time Liberty hired a head football coach. In December 2005, a small gathering of press and a smattering of fans met in the foyer at the DeMoss Center, where the late Jerry Falwell introduced Danny Rocco as the school’s seventh head football coach after a disastrous 1-10 season that led to Ken Karcher’s dismissal.

The location was chosen because, at the time, it was the most opulent meeting place on campus. Not so today. A shade more than six years later, Falwell’s son Jerry Jr. introduced Turner Gill as the school’s eighth head football coach in front of a gathering of several hundred people on the club level of Liberty’s multimillion-dollar Williams Stadium press tower. The crowd included reporters, cameramen, current and former football players, along with interested alumni and students.

The introduction had a “big-time” feel, and that’s exactly where Gill and Falwell want to lead the Liberty football program. In conjunction with introducing the new coach, Falwell confirmed that the school was exploring a move to the Football Bowl Subdivision.

It’s no coincidence that both bits of news were announced at the same press conference. The fact that Liberty is actively exploring the move to Division I football’s highest level played a big role in Gill’s decision to accept the position.

“It was huge,” Gill said. “It was a major thing that definitely really got my eyes and ears open, to get me more attentive, to give me a stronger interest.”

I've noticed differences in the hard copy vs. the online copy sometimes. In the paper version, it included a 6 inch by 10 inch color picture with Coach Gill smiling at the podium with JB and the Chancellor sitting at the tables on each side of him, but the best part was the headline:
Meet the new boss

Most intriguing line:
“We weren’t going to push Danny out. We were going to give him as much time as he needed. But I was already thinking, if he decides to move on, we’re going to go on offense and just make it happen, just roll up our sleeves. That’s exactly what we did.” JFJR

The new name was a must in order to make the noise we needed to make. It is what it is.

If you really look at Ku's schedule this year you will see they had a very difficult schedule. They lost 31 to 30 in OT against baylor in the third to last game, which hopefully demonstrates that the players hadn't mailed it in. Also a decent showing against Missiouri in the finale. I just wanted to look to see if by score you could tell if the players had mailed it in. It doesn't appear that way from the outside but time will tell. There are def. some big time losses in there that seem a bit puzzling. Anyway, I'm happy for a new start and to see what coach can do here.

Oh he's good. Everything he said was the exact specific thing that he needed to say. I'm doing my best to not let McKay influence the way I look at Gill and I can't help but get excited for this guy. He's the type of person we need coaching our football team.

agreed, i liked everything he said. Kinda completely contradicts everything the kansas fan came on here and said. Often times the world just doesn't understand where your coming from. I feel the exact same way SJ. He genuinely seems excited to be here as well, that was what i was hoping for. He sold any reservation i had in that interview.

Same exact feeling. McKay made me a bit of a skeptic unfortunately

But man he knows how to say the right things
