Do we know what's gonna be in the endzone? Is it just gonna be like the last one?

It will be the word "LIBERTY" but I believe JB said it would be in a different font.

It would have been cool to have LIBERTY in one and FLAMES in the other...both in-state rivals, JMU and W&M have done it each way. I believe JMU has MADISON in the endzones, and W&M has TRIBE in the endzone. Either way works; just a preference thing.

Also, found a pic of the Madison field, and it looks as if the field even wears like grass, notice the authentic wear marks in the redzone, 'course I suppose that could simply be shadow also, but nonetheless here's the pic.

The new LU field looks great, bet the guy that has to cut out the logo will not be liking the color red after this weekend.

Rubber Pellets and Midfield/End Zone Logos Arrive

August 18, 2006
Lynchburg, Va.

Friday saw the delivery of the rubber pellets that will be mixed with sand that will provide the cushion underneath the FieldTurf. This is the same exact surface that Super Bowl XL was played on at Ford Field in Detroit. Also arriving was the cutout FieldTurf of the Flames logo that will be stitched across the 50 yard line. The end zone decorations also arrived which will read “Liberty” as it has in the past. Midfield and the end zones are expected to be stenciled and cut early next week so the Flames and end zone logos can be stitched in.

A truckload of 32 rolls of FieldTurf arrived last Friday, while the remaining nine rolls and necessary materials to complete the project arrived on Saturday.

On Sunday, the first roll of FieldTurf were installed, starting at approximately the 50 yard line and installation crews continue to work their way towards the new Williams Football Operations Center in the North end zone. The complete installation project is scheduled to take 10 to 14 days (weather permitting).

The installation of the new FieldTurf is one of numerous athletics facility upgrades to take place all around the Liberty University campus this summer. Last week, flag poles were installed atop the East stands at Williams Stadium and on the lawn in front of the Hancock Athletic Center.

The floor in the top portion of the Hancock Athletic Center weight room was renovated, while the court and the surface around the court were redone in the Vines Center.

Finally, besides the surface renovations at Williams Stadium, the completion of the Williams Football Operation Center is within days as construction crews are putting the finishing touches on the 60,000-square foot state-of-the-art facility.

I went and felt the turf over the weekend. It's very similar to a fake christmas tree, only a little softer.

Anyway, has anybody noticed this NFL preseason, that when a team is playing on field turf you can always see a blue puff of smoke come up from where they're stepping? Is that normal? I'm assuming it's the rubber filler in the grass. I noticed it during the Bengals/skins game last week and the Indy/seahawks game last night.

That's exactly what it is.

They are working on the Liberty in the north end zone. It is definately a different font from previous years. It is written in white and outlined in red. Looks sharp.

5 hrs later, they have evidently panned the camera back (?) a bit- who controls the thing, or is it on a timer?

I can't wait for the center logo. The last one they had on there was faded from day 1 and you barely noticed it. I think the bold definition of everthing like lines, numbers and logos is my favorite part of this new stuff.

Jeff Barber said the midfield logo will stretch from the 40 to the 40.

Got a chance to hear Barber at our leadership orientation today and we're one of a handful of universities that have this type of field. Kind of amazing to hear about not-so-little-anymore Liberty with some of the best facilities and ground work.
