Monmouth: 7-4 (beat them 21-17 and they are in a conference that is worse than the Big South)
Stoney Brook: 5-6 (they beat them 28-13, we beat them 33-0)
Delaware: 4-8 (normally a good team, but not this year, 27-10)
Hofstra: 4-8 (only beat them 41-40 in OT)
Northeastern: 2-10 (20-0, but they are 2-10 and 1-7 in the conference)
Iona: 3-8 (won't even have a team next year, 55-7)
Massachusetts: 7-5 (4-4 in the conference, beat them by one point, 21-20)
Rhode Island: 3-9 (1-7 in the conference, 37-7)

Only beat 2 teams with winning records and lost to all ranked teams they played. Their 4 losses are to good teams, but who did they beat? Their best win in over UMASS who was .500 in the conference.

We beat 2 ranked teams. We outscored Maine on the season by 100 points, 404-304.

We had a better record and would clearly have been the more explosive team to watch in the playoffs. How did they make it over us? I could handle William and Mary getting in over us better than Maine getting in over us.
Well thanks for posting all that, now I've really lost it. They really didn't beat a ranked team???Only 2 wins to teams with winning records. What a joke. this is no more than a political play for the CAA, against LU and the BS. What a jokE!

I thought that too, sort of, but now I'm thinking it would be great if their stupid choice comes back to haunt them.

So I say Maine all the way!

Go Maine Lame Lobster Bears or whatever!
No, if they get blown out of the water by UNI then people will probably say, What could LU or William and Mary, or Elon could have done in this game? I think any of these three teams will put up a better fight against UNI than Maine will...

And like I said, Monmouth was second in a conference that is worse than the Big South and barely above being division II. It probably should be division II and Maine barely beat them...

If it were William and Mary i think it would be more understandable...this just doesn't make sense...

but if we had won at Presby, I firmly believe we would be in...

I thought so, something Luke said confused me.

Look I'm not sure the Presby loss did us in at this point. There is a reason Maine is in. I'm not clear what it is, but the committee wanted Maine. Otherwise LU, W&M, Or Jax St. would have been in.

Maine Stinks. i hate Lobster!

Stupid Committee.

This is what Lang said about Maine earlier today in his sports blog:
Maine (8-4, 8-3 FCS)

Pros: No bad losses. Played JMU tough at home. Won six straight before losing finale to New Hampshire.

Cons: Second place in the CAA North, the much, much weaker of the two CAA divisions. Had a chance to play its way in at home against New Hampshire but lost. Beat only two teams with winning records (7-4 Monmouth, 6-5 Massachusetts). No signature victory.

Three CAA at-large teams. For fans of William & Mary and Maine, I believe your bubble has burst. At 8-4, Maine’s 28-24 loss to New Hampshire means the Black Bears were unable to beat any teams bound for the playoffs. 7-4 William & Mary has a slightly better resume with a win over New Hampshire - but I don’t think the 7 D-I win teams are going to get to the bargaining table.

Liberty is in. Conversely, the 10-2 Flames just made the 8 D-I win plateau with their 26-3 win over the Phoenix - and also in the process jumped in line for an at-large playoff spot ahead of Elon. They got their marquee win; despite their loss to 4-7 Presbyterian, I think they should be in the field of 16.
Brackets:

Liberty @ #1 James Madison
Wofford @ South Carolina State

Texas State @ #4 Montana
Weber State @ Cal Poly

Lower Bracket

Richmond @ #2 Appalachian State
Eastern Kentucky @ Southern Illinois

Colgate @ #3 Villanova
New Hampshire @ Northern Iowa

All four of these experts picked us to be in. The two quotes at the top speak for themselves.

Most experts picked us to be in. Pretty much everyone picked us. Clearly the committee made a terrible mistake. They are definitely either biased against us or against the Big South...

So,

Do you think we should let the BCS know about the problems we are having with the playoff system? If we had used the BCS computer rankings, we are in.

I am disappointed that we did not get in as I think that it would have given us a chance to get the football programs name out to all of those people who follow 1AA football and let everyone know that we are one of the elite in 1AA. It would have been a big step in helping recruiting and allow us to step up all aspects of the football program. But with the committee and all of the decisions that they made I am not too surprised that we got "snubbed" since it has happened in the past not only to our football program but Womens hoops and baseball where we never get the seeding that we deserve.

There might be an anti-Liberty bias out there but I can' prove it. But this decision definely sends a strong message to LU's athletic department in that we have to schedule better teams (no more putting 2 division 2 teams on our schedule) and yes we need to start seriously looking for a more legitimate conference to become a member. This conference is hurting our development in more ways than one. Yes it is nice to dominate the conferene like we have in the last 2 years but there is a serious downside that we are "playing to that level" and the committee just doesn't give the BSC much respect.

AMHERST, Mass. - UMass Athletic Director John McCutcheon has been appointed a member of the NCAA Division I-AA Football Committee. His term of service on the committee will begin September 1, 2005, and continue through September 1, 2009.

"I am glad to be able to represent the conference on the Division I-AA Football Committee," said McCutcheon, who celebrated his one-year anniversary at UMass on February 4. "Anytime you have the opportunity to represent your institution and conference on a national level, it is a privilege."

McCutcheon will represent the East Region as part of the eight-person committee.

Among the general duties of the committee are the following: Serve as chairs of respective regional committees; evaluate teams throughout the season; participate on numerous regional and national conference calls; assist other committee members with the selection of teams and creation of the bracket; assign crews of officials to work the playoff games; staff selected playoff games; develop and review agenda items for annual meeting and set up regional advisory committees for the upcoming season.

I wish the team was in the playoffs not only this year but last year. I think last year we wouuld have whipped up on app state in that first round, but i digress. This year there was a big slip in the lose to PU, with that and the fact that the Big South Confernece is not as respected as we would like also hurt. But there is one thing I have not really seen addressed on the board is the fact that Liberty is a conservative christian school. This has to play in there somewhere, even though many of you may not want to admit it. Coastal has made it in before and we had a similar if not better looking season then they did that year. I believe we will have to get at least 11 wins, until the conferences's automatic bid kicks in. But hey just remember where this program has come from in a few short years, and be happy that we can complain about playoff berths as opposed to the oppossite end of the spectrum.

If it had been anyone but Maine, I'd not have as big a problem with it. W&M played a tougher schedule than we did, even though I still think we should have been in before them. Maine doesn't have the resume that any of the other teams do.

I don't think it's time to start looking for a new conference yet, though. Let's stick with the Big South through 2011; if we can get into the playoffs a couple years running, that will help our recruiting and will make us even more competitive in either the CAA or the SoConn.

Was there ANYONE, I mean ONE SINGLE wonk/expert/guru/prognosticator/know-it all who picked Maine to get this bid? If so, I'm not aware of it. It simply makes no sense. Add me to the list of those who would be far less upset/puzzled if it had been W&M.

The Christian School aspect is something I have considered. Also we have to think that Jerry Sr had a lot of haters. There are a lot of people out there with an LU bias because of our Christian status or because of Jerry Sr. I think it is obvious that we didn't make the playoffs this year because of a biased committee. Maine had no good wins. We had two wins against ranked teams. We deserved it more then they did. This is nothing but disrespect...
