I have no direct knowledge but I have had several people in last 48 hours ask me if I knew what was going on. Something Is brewing. Whether it comes to fruition is anybody's guess. But the last rites for the WAC likely have allowed some alternative plans to gain traction with the usual suspects.

Can't we like buy the rights to the WAC football league and their FBS league spot? I mean how much can something like that cost? Get the 6-8 FBS ready teams to split the costs.

Chattanooga, JMU, and Coastal would be my hope for the remaining spots, that's a better lineup than anything that would come up with the WAC east and would be a great regional conference. I think this would be best for all these schools in the long run to stick together moving up.

Regional Conference. I fart in the general direction of your lack of vision! We are NATIONAL!

I know, the world of college football is upside down now conference wise. This type of conference would be great money wise and I think we could be top dogs from the beginning. Also with an 8 team conference, we would have 3-4 non conference games a year where we could play coast to coast and build our national brand more in the football world.

An update on this article and WAC Football might not be dead:
UPDATE (6:43 p.m. ET): Apparently, the Denver Post jumped the gun here. According to Brian Murphy of the Idaho Statesman, Hurd said he was only talking about the 2013 season and that the push to bring football back in 2014 is still alive.

"We didn't make any announcement that we were quitting football," Hurd told Murphy.

However, Hurd did admit that keeping football in the WAC was going to be difficult and that there's not enough FCS teams interested in joining the WAC right now.

-- END UPDATE --
We might still be getting an invite to the WAC-E for 2014!

From the Richmond Times Dispatch today:

http://www2.timesdispatch.com/sports/co ... r-2154491/
First-year Liberty University football coach Turner Gill on Tuesday expressed confidence that the Flames' desired shift from FCS to FBS will be accomplished in the next four years. LU has declared itself FBS-ready, and awaits an invitation from an FBS league, a requirement for FBS membership.

Asked about his message to recruits regarding the Flames' potential move to college football's top tier, Gill's response included, "If you decide to come here within the next four years, then we will be FBS."

Liberty athletics director Jeff Barber said of his coach's projection, "I think that's very likely."

I know it's a student written paper but I felt it was important to get some who are smarter than me to comment on this statement.
Also in progress is an attempt to move the football program to an 85-scholarship level. For that type of upgrade, Liberty needs a better football stadium to garner an invitation from a bigger conference.

But it was written by a student, and students DO know everything.

I used to love reading the Champion for "news", and counting the number of I verified opinions that made it into articles with no sources whatsoever. It is routinely awful reporting sprinkled with decent writing. It always struck me as odd that a University newspaper wasn't more thorough in its editing of student writing. It's a TEACHING OPPORTUNITY! So whoever is overseeing them should do just that - TEACH!

Rooster, by "better", I think she meant "bigger". It used to be that 30,000-seat stadiums were the minimum seating number for I-A schools (that's what Marshall built when they went from I-AA to I-A). I know a lot the MAC stadiums are smaller than that, but 30,000 used to be the minimum standard.
