Will it be the Chancellor himself? It would immediately lend credibility to the company line. Or is the risk of possible blow back to great?
Will it be DR? He can put on the 'ole ball coach ' routine and intimidate or aw shucks everyone. But it will be difficult to believe that he had no prior knowledge and it will make his program look like the Christian version of The U.
What about Mark Hine? He could be LUs version of Joe Biden. The lovable goof who no one believes or has any credibility. Plus he has the added bonus of being the one fired if this all goes awry!
Keys or Goode? Neither is well known and by the time everyone was done asking " who is he and why are they speaking" they could have already read the statement and been gone.
Will the head of PR trot out to spew his own words? It lends some credibility, plus the added bonus of Keys and Goode. But will he be viewed as an outsider and have the credibility evaporate?

I will need to firenup my Whirly Pop for this one. And yes, I DO use coconut oil!
Nick Pretty in the Red Jacket. All questions will be directed at the loud choice of clothing. And they won't actually tell him it's a press conference. "GIVE ME AN L!!"

Speaks volumes a reeks of immaturity . IMVVHO. Good night girls.

it speaks to peoples immaturity that they are not buying this? That is the dumbest thing i have seen written in a while. The bible itself says the spiritual man judgeth all things. Everyone should think for themselves and analyze situations and facts. Without any further knowledge other than what has been made public the logical feeling is shock and disbelief that we would be this hypocritical. Maybe there is more to come out, there absolutely positively better be, something like it was a bag of spilled sugar instead of cocaine. Brandon Ore was kicked out of Tech a few years ago and it was spun off to be "the other guy in the car's stuff" and he had absolutely no knowledge". When you make a decision like this is should have been followed up immediately with the information that is not public, why wait another day. it only makes the program look even more shady, like were trying to react to reactions.

the thing about Lang is just stupid too, he has said plenty of times he's not a fan, it's his job to report. I find it embarassing that our coach didn't know before the news media did...that sounds to me like there is guilt there on Asa's part. If your innocent wouldn't your second call (after the parents) be to the coach to plead your case and explain, why ignore it and act like it didn't happen.

As far as him deleting his accounts, duh...it's a lightning strike waiting to happen with comments and everything else. Thats damage control 101

I hope to goodness this is cleared up because i feel sick to my stomach right now.

Don't laugh. Johnny was a pretty darn good magician in H.S. I should know. I graduated with him. He was really pretty impressive with it.

That being said, for the first time in my life, I'm afraid I might be ashamed of my university. I've always been proud to be from LU and to be an alum (twice). This is beyond football. This is a character and integrity thing. If it's Christian, shouldn't it be better?

IMO, Hine and Barber should both be fired for this. (Not that anyone believes anything Hine says anyways...) Rocco? Flip a coin. The only thing that's changed since the beginning of Chapman's suspension is that LU has lost 2 games. This isn't misdemeanor stuff. This is FELONY coke possession. This isn't something you can sweep under the rug. Whether he's guilty or whether he's innocent, the fact of the matter is that until it's resolved, he shouldn't be on the team.

What kind of example does that set for everyone else? What about other colleges and universities? These are FELONY charges. Do people play on athletic teams with felony murder charges hanging over their heads? How about felony sexual assault? Felony theft? Cam Newton left Florida for less.

No game is worth the integrity of the athletic department, the school or it's (stated) mission. Quite frankly, I'm embarrassed. Is this what Jerry founded the school to be? Absolutely not. There's more to life than simply winning. The school's motto wasn't "Making Champions." It was "Making Champions FOR CHRIST." I'm afraid people have forgotten those last two words, but they're the most important - and perhaps it's time they were remembered.

Quite frankly, it doesn't particularly matter what the criminal outcome is. This is bigger than that. The credibility of the entire school is at stake here. Asa may not have any say over whether he's suspended or not, but if he wants to lead by example - then he can start by not playing.

Jinxy- we just need better PR people. Did we learn nothing from the Clinton scandals? Get out in front of the story so you can better dictate the talking points. I mean the man ... I wanna say got off....but won't... Stayed in office and. Is now wildly popular! Imagine what we could have done with this!

Haven't said anything about this, but I totally agree with a comment on the footballs Facebook page post about the fact that Jerry Sr. was the king of second chances, i mean for crying out loud look at hindson.

At the same time, I agree that its very shady the fact that Asa is going to be one of the faces for Liberty. I can't see any new information coming out to make this an ok situation to put him back on the football team. 3 weeks isn't enough of a punishment, and reps and fines, yeah sure, but honestly, has anyone ever had to write out a check for a fine? no, it gets put on your student account for financial aid to cover. I just think regardless of whatever new information comes out, unless it was "It was a look alike, mistaken identity" then nothing is being done to improve Asa as a person. Letting him get off scott free teaches nothing except that he is above the rules, which from what others have written, seems to be the underlying problem.

I don't know what extra information you guys could think there could be to make this ok. This isn't a second chance, it's at least a third.

The Liberty-delphia Eagles strike again...

Just remember I was pointing Out all these scumbag moves before it was cool.

Innocent until proven guilty, AKA won't have a trial until after his senior season is over.

I'll never be a fan of the police, but they certainly can't keep harassing the same man without any evidence. This is LIBERTY, not Miami.

I'll never act like I'm perfect or never made mistakes, but if you're going to use then rules as a crutch as to why top-level student athletes aren't going to come here, then don't act like they don't exist when athletes get in trouble. We should just tell them rules and laws dont apply to their enrollment at the largest Christian institution in the world.

Oh well, you guys have fun trading integrity for hair gel.

Really? I love the Police. Saw them at Wrigley Field several years ago. Wrapped Around Your Finger, Black Spot on The Sun etc.. Great music. Just hope they don't play it on game day

let's think back a second, wasn't he arrested on a Friday...practiced Monday without DR knowing, then suspended Tuesday which is 3 almost 4 full days. If it was self reported and he was allowed to practice Monday that then this is even more assanine. LIke i said before if he was innocent it sure seems as though he would have told Rocco earlier since the truth would have vindicated him, why hide it then Rocco suspends him?

Am i wrong on that timeline?

I'm just happy someone on that team was trying to bring a WINNING attitude to the team... Even if it meant really acting like Charlie Sheen. No wonder we haven't been WINNING.

I had a good friend get kicked out of Liberty. He had no prior reps. He was reported for being at a party where there was weed. So they made him take a drug test , (the hair kind, that tells about weed you smoked long long ago , and doesnt stand up in the court of law).

Man up and make Asa take the same hair drug test. If he fails. Kick him out like you did Brad Kessler. If Brad was made to take a drug test for being "reportedly seen at a party" then I think that Asa could take a drug test for "reportedly being caught with cocaine and weed with a suspended liscense".

Side note. ASA STILL DOES WHAT ASA WANTS!

Thats a bad rumor. I know the "health concerns" cannot be the reasoning the university would give. Thats too lame, and they must know no one would buy it.

Play or have their band play any of the following songs
Cocaine
Gin and Juice
Touch of Grey (Grateful Dead)
the Joker (Steve Miller Band)
Mary Janes Last Dance (Tom Petty)
Anything from Bob Marley
Purple Haze!

Show scenes from the movie
Blow
Cheech and Chong clips
Spacoli clips
Reefer Madness

To all those who urge restraint- charges are pending, and as such, most would say he shouldn't be playing. His past is now being looked at more closely- and our sports program will get a black eye from this one.

On the other hand, as Sly pointed out, we are really getting that national recognition that it takes to get to the next level.

Some things to remember:

Jerry Jr is a phenomenal lawyer. There's no way that he would allow Asa to be reinstated if he had not thoroughly studied this case and found a way to make sure Asa wasn't convicted of the felony. That's not inside information but just common sense once you look at the situation. Good lawyers trump the truth. All they have to do is prove not guilty, not innocence. If they do that then this all goes away. Theoretically.

If we go on to win the Big South, maybe win a playoff game, etc and Asa is convicted then this will likely become a national story and we'll get crucified on all the national shows. That's how big of a risk the senior administration at Liberty is taking on this one.

The only thing that makes sense with Asa being reinstated is because charges are still pending and the court date was moved back. If that's the case then somebody had to make the call saying he couldn't play againsts JMU. Whoever that was whether it be Barber or Falwell deserves some credit.

My personal opinion is that he shouldn't play until all of the charges are dealt with. I know he graduates in December and I know he's going to the NFL, but waiting until the legal process plays out just seems like the right thing to do. He has a redshirt year that could be used. Yes it puts him in school a year longer and yes it delays the NFL, but I'm a big believer that no life change comes without consequences and I'm not so sure three weeks is enough to completely change a life of 24 years. I think he should be able to stay in school, stay with the team, but he shouldn't be allowed to represent the university until all charges are dealt with.

The bottom line is we are a school of second chances. However, those second chances have always come after a period of time where the person had everything stripped away only to be built back up.

In the end, it's not my job or reputation on the line. I support Liberty University more than I support any coach, athlete, or administrator. If this backfires then there should be serious consequences and changes made to restore the reputation and values of Liberty University. I just hope it doesn't get to that.

SJ I think you demonstrate the divide on this topic. I think the majority of those opposed agree on the legal part of the case. What is disheartening is the blatant disregard for the Liberty Way, which all students are held to. The situation flies in the face of what we SAY LU is about. Now if we come out and say we are trying to win football games thus move up,and the only way to do that is to cut football players slack on their requirements under the Liberty Way, then I would have no problem with it at all.
But remember we are in a New Era of Christian Commitment! We don't know what that actually means of course, but just remember that is how we are now running things. Sort of like Sign The Bill and THEN we will tell you what is in it. Hey, worked for Nancy Pelosi!

IM glad to see Asa back with the team. There are many angles to look at this from. IM sure there have been some sleepless nights for those who had to decide on how to move forward.

I’ve learned a lot about NCAA football since joining this forum. I’ve been more a follower of the NFL in the past. I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing, just like High School coaches work with College coaches to get the right kids into the right program, NFL scouts work with college coaches to get the right guys to the NFL draft. How many NFL scouts have visited Liberty to take a look at Asa? If you are going to participate in BIG Time NCAA football at the division 1-a level someday, a lot of other factors will come into play. Like the interest of the pro scouts that visit the schools each week. There's a lot to think about here.

I trust the outstanding leadership at Liberty to see that every player that comes to this school leaves more equipped to deal with life issues than when he came. That's what's important to me. Sounds to me like Asa wants to turn it around and if that's the case I support him! Just like I would you!

Come on SJ... We have never cared what a court says, why start now. Students have been kicked out before an arraignment and staff are fired if arrested (unless you're athletics staff I guess)

I don't have any problem with Liberty trying to help Asa out by mentoring him and heck even allowing him to stay enrolled (as it appears they've done this in the past) and he hasn't been convicted of anything yet. However the move I don't get is, what changed in three weeks that makes the situation different? I mena other than the fact we lost 2 football games? I mean three weeks ago he was detrimental to the football team but now all is good because he's done all "we asked of him"?

Again I just really hope I'm missing some key facts that make this situation not seem like all we care about is getting a W.
