Glad to see this. Their AD Jeff Barber is a class act who also has experience in the SEC when he was at South Carolina. I wish he and Liberty the very best!

I remember years ago when they started playing football, their goal was not to eventually win a Division I national championship, it was to play and beat Notre Dame! No, I'm not kidding. I went to school with a guy who got a scholarship to play there in the late 1970s.

I'm pretty sure I saw them play at Jax State back in the late 70's or earlly 80's. Seems like JSU thrashed them.

I've had people tell me lately that pretty soon the ACC and Big East won't be much better than the MAC or SunBelt in football anyway, so why not?!

So with the WAC meetings yesterday and all this talk of Liberty, GA Southern, Appalachian State and Jacksonville State moving up together....when can we expect to see you all make a move?

I am hopeful JMU moves as well, not sure we will end up in same conference but would love to keep playing you all out of conference going forward at the FBS level.

Thanks SlyFox..sorry about my lack of understanding yesterday on your vetting process here for new posters.

I wish you guys well this year, hope we still get your return trip to Harrisonburg next year...I enjoy when we are playing Liberty and have attended the last several when playing in Lynchburg.

I know you guys are actively looking to move to FBS...I have had some interesting conversations with some folks @LU who think there is still a very strong probability LU announces a conference move this summer...

I think that might be reading more into the subject matter than the headline would suggest:

Jack Crowe: The board has made the statement that we are going to investigate that. But we haven't run our program differently because of that statement. It looks like there will be five or six FCS schools that are going to be pulled into the bottom of the WAC. And we'd like to have a discussion to see if we're one of them.

There could be six, seven, or eight of us. But none of those discussions are going on. Letters have been exchanged. There's some reality to it. But is it going to go anywhere? I don't know.

Basically he reiterates the same rumors we have heard for months. But I do appreciate you providing us with the link, jmusuperfan.

With the cost of getting into just about any conference, what would keep liberty from going big and trying for the acc or the big east? Why waste money on a mediocre conference that we will outgrow in a couple years?

We would love an invite to a major Conference .. but we cannot move up without an invite and we have little control over where that comes from - it would be unusual for a major conference to pick up any FCS school .. as the addition of a transitioning school is perceived as weakening their overrall conference strength. For now we dream of a Conference USA bid and hope for a WAC or Sunbelt invite.
