Listen I wouldn't blame barber for cutting him lose after this season but to compare him to dale layer is such a stretch.

I'm not comparing him to Layer. I'm comparing the situation to the one Layer was in.

We had a post season run with a senior laden team. The next year, when it was obvious the post season run was a fluke, we stayed with the coach to see if he could turn it around when it was obvious he couldn't.

Last year we had a post season run with a senior laden team. This year, with a team that's even more loaded, we're showing last year's run may have been a fluke.

If we don't know he's our guy long term, why should we go into a rebuilding period with him at the helm?

It's either he's our guy for 3-4 years or he's not at all. We can't base it on next year.

I LOVE Liberty. And I get sick and tired of you haters and the every year "Typical Liberty" Bemoaning after an unfortunate loss.
BUT.....

They are making it so hard to stay a Liberty Fan. And it isn't just football.

We could talk about budgets, the theories of what makes a winning program, the constant debate over FBS, but at the end of the day the coaches and the culture are what is stable. The players can fail to be ready mentally or physically, or fail to execute or be of sub-par talent. and at the end of the day that is why you hire a coach. IT IS the coaches job to get the team ready to play and win.

Maybe we have a culture problem as evidenced in many other programs inability to take it to the next level in spite of above average budgets and facilities.

That being said I think Gill is our best option as a head coach. At the end of the Day our head football coach should exemplify the mission of the University (I know it seems some of you like to forget that we are a christian university first and not a football team first). And Gill Does that well.

But if it is Christian it ought to be better.

So perhaps gill leaving isn't the answer, but something better change on that staff.

My one real concern is his recruiting. At Buffalo he improved each season, topping out in year 3, then dropped back down but we never saw a roster full of only his players there. Then there's just 2 years at Kansas. Next year will be the first time he's got a roster that is fully his guys and I don't know that I see enough in the young talent he's brought in so far to be convinced he's good enough in that role.

Because it was an annual occurance

Plus there were on court issues
And there aren't on field issues?
Basketball didn't have the talent to compete at this level. Football has shown it has and more
Basketball didn't have schemes that were effective. Football has shown that the right schemes are in place but execution is not

Basically two entirely different discussions.

Got it.
Seriously? Step away from the ledge man. There is a difference between being 'ok' with. Ad results and understanding where they come from. Things don't happen in a vacuum and can't always be fixed overnight. Firing the coach is not always the answer. Especially now

You are way too emotional right now. I thought you were seriously trolling but it is quite clear you are overly emotional right now.

The basketball program was a complete wreck most of layers tenure. That can not be said of the football program during Gills tenure. That is the difference.

I'm not emotional at all. In fact, I just grilled some dang good pork chops and I'm enjoying watching football on tv while the baby sleeps next to me.

You were right about me trolling. I'm going over the top to show how ridiculous some of the opinions of people saying he can do no wrong are. It's what you do on message boards.

My official stance is that he shouldn't be fired until after the season but I don't think he's our guy moving forward. His track record before Liberty and now his four years here have shown us what and who he is. He's an incredible man and has great character but he's not a good head football coach.

The past two weeks you've blamed every single thing on the players and nothing on the coaches. That's what I'm getting at. You've been the biggest Gill apologist. I get that you'll always back coaches because of your background, but at what point are you willing to admit when a coach has lost his team? If you're willing to blame some of the past two weeks on the coaches, I'm good backing off.

Go re read my posts. I told you specific situations where I questioned what the coaches did. But at this point it's mainly on the players IMO.

I've also pointed out when I thought a coach lost his team I don't believe that is the case in this situation.

So I've done what you claimed I haven't. Which shows you are too emotional or haven't read my posts

It shows I disagree with most of your opinions on the topic and only read the parts I disagreed with and didn't give you credit.

I now give you credit.

Moving on to the next e-fight I can start for entertainment purposes.

if you had told me I could say: "We lost to Gardner-webb and Monmouth and are now 0-2 in conference and in danger of going below .500 for the rest of the season", in August I would have laughed hysterically. Even my Dark sided tendencies would not have predicted this.

It's totally obvious most people are clearly fans and in no way shape or form could most likely do what any of these college coaches are paid to do. They would commit suicide Leave their wives or clearly be drunkards. So so over the top and are a very emotional group of individuals

I think the idea that we have a four year starter at QB and we're going to have one of worst Big South Season in years says Gill may not be the man for the job.

I think you need to cut the chord as soon as it starts going down. If recruits sense that the coach may be gone after their first year, I think it could spiral down quickly.

We wasted years of progress with Layer and I'd hate to see the same thing happen with the football program.

I also think SuperJon is right that we got a bit of luck last year and this year it's obvious that we are not progressing. If we win out, it'd be hard to let Gill go, but that's a big if. It's not my call obviously, but if it were, one more loss and I'd move on at the end of the season.

I don't think Gill is the guy to move us forward. I didn't think he was last year and still don't. 90% of the things I've said on this thread this afternoon was to get people riled up because people are predictable. Ten years on this message board tends to show how people act in most situations.

so? does that mean we are supposed to give them a pass because they get paid to not do their job?

People. We lost to Gardner Webb and Monmouth back to back...reflect on that for a few minutes... The wheels on the bus aren't going round and round. They have fallen off. This is flat out embarrassing.

Omg, and then what we cut the cord with HCTG and bring in a new guy who has HOW LONG according to you cats to get his guys in get his system in place and win. Has petey ever laid out for a pass in his tenure here, everything is to him, how many drops, but the minute it's someone else your qb wants to try to put ppl on blast. What about his throws. The kid #9 wanted it went out and took it. Hate to say it but when petey was out we moved the ball around to EVERYONE he gets back he again becomes primary on everything n we become predictable. Run game hasn't been there all year the emotional play was to put 26 back first the better move imp was 2. Defense played ok today, but Monmouth played mistake free LU did not. Noone looks at whole picture it seems
