have to think "they" wouldn't have told the guys unless we DID have a legitimate shot...

obviously, we have to win and let the selection take care of itself. [/cliches]

Not just win but we need to destroy GW by something like 30 points or more then we see if that would convince the committee to at least look at us. I believe the committe looks at teams at how they finish and not how they start out. If there is a glimmer of hope that would be it.

Hey, like I said, I would LOVE to be wrong. If it happens, I'll be among the first in line asking for tickets.

I would love for us to make the playoffs...it would be great...and until reading this thread I had dismissed the thought of it completely from my head. If we could have at least one more win I would feel better about it...with that said, you never know...I hope we destroy Gardner Webb this weekend so we can at least give the selection committee something to think about...and if we don't make it at least we created some buzz with the selection committee for next year....

This week's Sagarin Ratings.

1. Northern Iowa
2. North Dakota State - Not eligible
3. Southern Illinois
4. Appalachian State
5. Richmond
6. McNeese State
7. Delaware
8. Massachusetts
9. James Madison
10. Wofford
11. Youngstown State
12. Western Illinois
13. Montana
14. Yale - Does not participate
15. Villanova
16. Hofstra
17. South Dakota State - Not eligible
18. Georgia Southern
19. Elon
20. New Hampshire
21. Citadel
22. Furman
23. Eastern Kentucky
24. Eastern Washington
25. Grambling - Does not participate
26. Liberty
34. Delaware State

The ones in green are in, the ones in red are out. We have ten spots filled, six to go.

Of the rest:

Elon/GSU/The Citadel: Only one of them are getting in. Eleven down, five to go.
JMU/Villanova/Hofstra: One one's getting in at most. Twelve down, four to go.

That leaves us in a relatively good position. I need to look up some stuff on the rest of them, but that shows where we're at now.

I will be pulling for Toledo tonight as they are playing Ball State. Loosing by 1 point to a possible bowl bound team would help our cause.

While I would love to see us get into the field as much as anyone else on this board, I have to admit I agree with Steve that we are a very long shot to pull it off. We desperately need a blowout victory on the road at G-W combined with a bunch of upsets. Without any real signature victories it is going to be tough to argue if we are left out.

But crazier things have happened and I'm still holding out some hope.

Nobody's saying Steve is wrong in that it's a tough shot. I was questioning his, "We moved down in the polls" statement which is completely false.

Breakdown of the TSN poll:

1. Northern Iowa Panthers 10-0
2. North Dakota State Bison 10-0
3. Montana Grizzlies 10-0
4. McNeese State Cowboys 10-0
5. Southern Illinois Salukis 9-1
6. Appalachian State Mountaineers 8-2
7. Richmond Spiders 8-2
8. Massachusetts Minutemen 8-2
9. Delaware Blue Hens 8-2
10. Delaware State Hornets 9-1
11. Yale Bulldogs 9-0
12. Eastern Kentucky Colonels 8-2
13. Wofford Terriers 8-3
14. James Madison Dukes 7-3
15. Eastern Washington Eagles 7-3
16. Georgia Southern Eagles 7-3
17. Youngstown State Penguins 7-4
18. Fordham Rams 8-2
19. Grambling State Tigers 8-2
20. New Hampshire Wildcats 6-4
21. Eastern Illinois Panthers 7-3
22. Hofstra Pride 7-3
23. Alabama A&M Bulldogs 8-2
24. Elon Phoenix 6-4
25. Cal Poly Mustangs 6-4
Harvard
South Dakota State
Norfolk State
Dayton
The Citadel
Villanova
San Diego
Western Illinois
Liberty

Once again, twelve teams we're sure of getting in, ten we know aren't.

Norfolk State is in a conference rated lower than us, and there's no way they're taking a 2nd place MEAC team over us. They're out.

JMU and Hofstra are big time bubbles right now. I think one gets in. Twelve in, four remaining.

Elon, The Citadel, and Georgia Southern are fighting for one spot. It's possible none of them get it, but it's hard to tell. I'm leaving that spot open. If GSU beats FBS Colorado St this weekend, they're in.

EWU has a good record, and if they win this week would have eight wins, but I don't think the Big Sky has ever gotten a second team in before.

We're basically looking at 5-6 teams coming down for four spots.

the big south should get a bid.

I thought we had to have 7 D-I wins to be eligible. Even if we win on Saturday, we'd have six.

that's a general supposition/criteria, evidently no such hard and fast "rule" exists

When we have enough teams, we will. We need 6. Currently we have 5. We won't have that many until next season, and even then I believe we have to maintain those 6 teams until 2009 before we get the auto-bid. I'm sure SJ will correct me, though. (Actually, I count on his corrections when I make statements of fact about NCAA rules.)

Why is ND and SD not eligible? Just wondering--seems odd.

NDSU and SDSU aren't eligible because they haven't been Div I for four years.

i was wondering the same thing...man they are doing pretty well for themselves for not being DI for 4 years yet.....

Coastal ran the table in the conference last year but got in with the win over top 10 ranked Furman. We don't have that "signature win" that Coastal did last year.

But we didn't win squeaker games in conference. Except in 04, Coastal never really had blowout wins in conference.

Ohhh 6-7?? Man, wrap it up then 😭
