They're terrible. They're worse than last year, and will likely suck again.

I hope they get The Citadel this year, because if not, they might not be able to for a while.

Hmmmm. Interesting.

Is this hyperbole, or are you soliciting banter?

The truth is that our offense is better, our defense is about the same, and our kicking game left school with our only specialist last August. Our team average yards per rush is 5.4; wonder if you would mind elaborating on why you think that's a fluke?

But I don't think CCU, GW, or CSU would say we "suck", and I hope your football team holds a similar level of "respect" for us.

And why would you think that a roster with 52 freshmen won't be better next year?

WHY is their mascot a kangaroo?
Maybe they are wondering why our mascot is an Eagle.

I would hope men in uniform (who are also college students) wouldn't have trouble making the connection between the word liberty, an eagle and a school who's colors are red, white and blue.

However, such hopes are easily dashed when I consider how many of our own students can't make the connection.

One more time, for the slow kids: Moniker ≠ Mascot

the flock of eagles thing is funny just because of the irony/contradiction within the phrase. FLOCK itself, is a name for a group of a certain type of animal. A flock of seagulls is a flock. A herd of buffalo is a herd.

I tried to sign up there Sunday. I think their board is busted.
Okay, seriously. This is annoying. I don't know why their board is so secretive that they've got to lock everybody out, but since they have, it'd at least be nice if the registration process worked. I've been waiting all week for the thing to send me an activation key just so I can READ their forum. I'm not sure I'd even post.

LAME.

that's odd. I don't recall having those problems when I joined. Of course, the board was new , then. Maybe they upgraded the security after seeing people like me get in :D

I registered, but the activation code it was supposed to send never showed up. I even tried having them resend it. No luck.

I assure you we're not trying to lock anyone out, and this is the first registration problem like this that I've fielded.

Keydets and Kangaroos
No, a Keydet is not a Kangaroo, although the term "Keydets" has been used over the years to refer to VMI's athletic teams and the kangaroo has become the established mascot.

The story behind the kangaroo is relatively simple. Back in 1947, two VMI cheerleaders saw a picture of a kangaroo on the front of the magazine and realized how uncommon the animal was as a mascot. As one of the mascots was finally procured, a contest was held to give the creature an appropriate name. The prize winning name was "TD Bound."

Sometime later the kangaroo's name was changed to "Moe" in order that he might be associated in all sports at VMI and not just football. So far in history there have been four real "Moes", the last of which was actually a wallaby, the smaller relative of the kangaroo. A kangaroo costume worn by a VMI cheerleader then replaced the live mascot in the 70's so there could be a mascot representative at any VMI contest at home or on the road.

The source and/or meaning of the nickname "Keydets" is not as easy to find. The problem lies in the fact that there is no definite meaning that has been found for the word. There have been plenty of explanations offered, but none have been convincingly substantiated. The United States Military Academy claims that it was a word used to denote the gray of the standard uniform of a cadet. One less factual definition is that due to the Southern drawl of some of the members of the VMI Corps, the common term cadet was transformed into "Keydet".

VMI has had many nicknames through the years. Probably the longest standing name used to refer to its team, especially in football, was the "Flying Squadron." The nickname got started back in 1917 at a football game between VMI and North Carolina. The name stuck and became more popular during the 1920 football season. It wasn't until the 30's that the term "Keydet" came into use in conjunction with the athletic teams.

Regarless of which definition is correct, the word "Keydet" like kangaroo, will continue to identify VMI's athletic teams.

Which pretty much means we chose a kangaroo because nothing else was left.

Not much of a story, is it?

VMI utilizes Robinson's athleticism

Lynchburg News & Advance

LEXINGTON - VMI's Joey Robinson knew his versatility would come in handy at some point. Along with guiding Gaithersburg (Md.) High School's spread offense as the team's quarterback, he was a Montgomery County champion in the high hurdles and long jump. He wasn't just a passer. He was an accomplished all-around athlete.

Here's a trivia question for you. What's the only NCAA school to have neither a mascot nor a nickname?

Hollins College.

Back in the '90's, they decided to add a mascot, but then re-affirmed "nothing".

The Roanoke Times had a contest, and I thought the best suggestion was the "Tinker Belles" (they're at the foot of Tinker Mountain).

I suggested "Collies".

Ohhh 6-7?? Man, wrap it up then 😭
