They did that, too. AND they had an LU during the halftime show.

The script Liberty was hard to read. ANYTHING written in formation is going to be tough to read in our stadium, unless it's in block letters. And even then -- Ohio State does a block O, so I guess we'd be copying them then, too.

What's fun about being positive. Again I say that this board is different because so many current students, faculty, and staff are on here. It is hard for SOME (NOTE: SOME) of those folks to be objective because they are too close to the program(s). I think we do have a good balance of let's say insiders and outsiders, but for some reason SOME of the insiders want everyone to walk in lock step. Again, if we all had the same opinion it would be sheer boredom.
I will not be positive all the time. So I will continue to post my opinions whether positive or negative until someone kicks me out.
And the Script Liberty dot the "I" thing is still DUMB! So there! :P :P

LOOK, let me say this again. Copying is great. We have quite a few copy things I have complemented this year. But Script Ohio, Notre Dame players smacking the sign, Chief whatsis name at FSU stabbing the spear, the Stupid Horse at UVA, etc. are old and famous and difine their pre-game experience. They should not be copied because then everyone will know they are not our defining thing. Copy all the small stuff you want, everyone does that, but when it comes to pregame defining traditions, they must be new and OURS!

I'm positive because there's a new athletic vibe at Liberty. I don't want to take away from that by letting the bitter spirit that has been the norm at LU set in all over again. As long as people are making an effort, I can get behind them. I wouldn't want someone nitpicking every detail of my job, so I don't want to do it to them. It'd be one thing if they were all failing miserably, but that's far from the case. If there was ever a time to be positive and get behind the athletics staff at LU, this it.

It's not that I (or anyone else, that I'm aware of) would prefer for everyone to have the same opinion. It's just that the folks who were the nucleus of this board are determined to be the biggest cheerleaders, fans and backers of the Flames. Constructive criticism is okay from time to time, but "sniper criticism" about every detail after ever game can get old fast. I do understand that everyone just wants things to be as good as possible, but again, I think the effort is being made. It'll all gel in time.

So we should all just come on every week and say: "Wow what a great game! The team was PERFECT, The band was PERFECT, The guy who can't say Mitsubitsi was PERFECT, Everything was PERFECT! Wow what an experience. Nothing anywhere could possible be better."

I am really getting tired of being told to stop saying this or that.

I don't think you read my post, so I'm not going to respond to yours. If you did read it, you apparently didn't process it.

I read yours completely, and I appreciate the sentiment. I'm with you 99 out of 100 times in cheering for this University. I am VERY proud to be a part of it and support it quite loudly and proudly.
I don't however think the police around here read my posts very well. I spent the last 2 home games praising everything. I found 1 thing that I thought was silly this week, and they chose to tell me to be positive and stop picking on the band. I feel like there is a core on this board who took some type of oath and the rest of us are outcasts. I get told to stop saying this or that 2 or 3 times a week, and it gets old. There are MANY on here more negative and mean spirited that I could ever be.

For what it's worth, I agree completely on Script Liberty. It's not readable and it's a complete ripoff.

for what it's worth, i'm not an insider, nor part of the "board police", but i do think your posts are nothing more than rants.

no one said you had to be in lock step with the program, you've just been advised that contructive criticism is well-recieved...much more so than useless tirades offering no solutions.

i noticed you pulled out Dr. Falwell's quote, but i would contend that that's exactly what the LU team is trying to do. They are trying to make it better. If you don't like it, it's fine to say so, but offer solutions rather than just pointing the finger.

no one is saying we have to keep script liberty, we're just saying give the people a pat on the back for trying.

i still think you're wrong. so there.

All I can say is WOW! It's worse than I thought. I'm glad I still have a free will and a free mind! I got the vaccine before I came to LU!

So, you can't actually like what's going on at LU without being accused of drinking kool-aid, being too close to a program or not having a mind of your own?

Again I'm not heard correctly. I'm just going to shut up on this topic. I LOVE Liberty, and I'm a HUGE suporter of LU athletics. I am a VERY vocal alum for all good things LU. Ask ANYONE! I just think I have the right to voice something I really thought was silly!

So please by all means script Liberty all you want, I'm done.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. You're accusing me of something just because I say I'm actually happy with what's going on. I don't get that.

I'm not scripting. I take cues from no one.

The script Liberty I think was a one time deal for Homecoming weekend. I kinda liked the band just marching onto the field for national anthem and going from there, but its nice to try something new to help the experience. Was it a copy of someone else? Of course. Was it unnecessary...Id doubt that...Was it silly? Only if you think it is...I mean I really didn't see anything since I was on field level but I think the intentions were right in trying something new on the field, much like the America the Beautiful for pregame 2 years ago

Right, right. Sorry. I didn't follow that at all. (Long day at the office.)

Even I can't argue with that. Nicki Scripko did a much better job at the volleyball game that night.

Now wouldn't it have been something if she had done the anthem instead of Alicia Williamson Garcia?

dwhite wrote:when spirit of the mountain entered the stadium right before the team came out onto the field they spelled out "Liberty" and then had one of the tuba players run around and dot the "i". it defintely copies Ohio State, but i think it's okay. it's permissible to use things that other schools use as long as we add our own touch. i mean, how many schools use Tiger Rag every time they score?
Is this why it seems as if we tripled the number of people in the band in the last few years? To have enough to spell out "Liberty"?

It's bad enough that having so many brass and percussion instruments drown out everything else -- i really wish i heard the bagpipe during halftime, you know.

I got the solution!

We get the band "In the Red" and they sing at halftime!!!!! Their "theme" will be "red" so that will make BJ happy and I hear they are decent although likely to blame their below average performance on the poor PA system

I think Knuckle has a connection with them
