I'm here. I'm not saying anything. I can't because quite frankly, I won't be able to stop once I start.

Here's to hoping that SJ doesn't know how to tie a noose and that he's also of afraid of bridges & water.

El Scorcho wrote:Before it gets lost in all of the negativity surrounding the teams play (which is completely deserved), a big huge THANK YOU goes out to Elon for the class and graciousness they showed in offering condolences for the passing of Dr. Falwell before the game. It was a top-notch thing to do, and it most certainly did not go unnoticed.

In fact, everything at Elon was top-notch except for the Flames football team today. The fans, the tailgate atmosphere, the stadium, etc. was all great. To all of the Elon fans on the board, thanks for being such great hosts. You've got an A+ program down there.
Thanks for the kind words!

By the way, I saw a group of about 6 Flames fans stading near the concession stands on the home side at the half.......was that any of you guys? I was about to approach them, but I didn't want to be too ackward.

I think that Spencer deserves a chance to start as well. when he has been in good things have happened. I know he wants the upperclassmen leadership and all but I agree with those that are saying that changes are in order. With apologies to Auntie Ann, I think the guy is not gettin it done

Perhaps we can get Spencer's Aunt Sally on here. I'm told that she's highly perturbed about Spencer's lack of playing time :?

Couple of things, Landis was throwing against a prevent type of defense manned by the 2nd/3rd string defense. That being said, one thing he does that Brock does not, is throw while the receiver is making his cut. Brock normally waits until the receiver has completed his route prior to throwing the ball, especially the outside routes.

I think we will see a change and whole-heartedly support one, as I said in another thread, Brock was woozy after the game and may not be able to play anyway. Hope he feels better soon.

I've always been one of the most critical people when it called for it, especially last year. The thing is, I'm not in a position to do that this year.

I understand all of what you are saying, although I personally feel brock has somewhat not gotten a fair chance, not redshirted, played for quarteback against zach, who i think is a great athlete, ans now he finally gets a chance and basically 1 fair loss and he pushed to the side, last week was a toss up, we could have a win column for that one. The play calling was sub par and elon was up by 14 in minutes, maybe Landis looked good, but look at when he got in, the ship had already left the dock. Brock is a great player, punter, safety, fiel goal kicker, it takes much more thanhim to win the game./ Penalties put a big umph into elon's performance today. I completely understand you opinions about Brock, I just thought that he has had enough disappointments in his life, wanted this one to go easy for the kid.. i am sure anyone that knows him will tell you he would never do anything to hold the team back, or complain about his place whatever it may be on it.. Thanks guys for understanding, how much I love the boy, and that my heart breaks when things go bad for him, we arevery very close...

auntie ann........ Brock has been given his fair share of oppurtunities.....put in Landis.

We have to win now, we cannot suffer offensively because of his weaknesses.....

How do we know that Brock will be benched? Is it just speculation? Putting Landis in there is like preparing for next year already. How about Mike Brown?

I think we're all Brock Smith fans and we all want the best for the kid. I'm sure he's a super nice guy and that he's a great teammate and he feels bad when things don't go well on the field. But, being a super nice guy and a team-player doesn't always translate into positive results on the field. This is about the TEAM and doing what you have to do in order to win. If Brock really is the nice guy that those who know him the best say he is, then he'll understand Rocco's decision to go with Landis next week. Sometimes, what we want in life for someone we care about isn't always the best for those around them. In this case, Brock continuing to play may not be the best for the team, regardless of how nice of a guy he is.

No, it's not like preparing for next year at all. Brock is a Junior.

Mike Brown is a red shirt freshman and the way this season is going, it's not worth wasting a year of his eligibility. Landis is already eligible.

I never really post on here but I like to look and particiapte in guesing the outcomes for the weekend game.....

HOWEVER, I can not sit on this one. I was UNfortunate enough to attend the game today and witness the worst Liberty Game I have seen in years....(YES even including the 1-10 season!)

At what point should the coach say...."Dang, Brock Cant hit the broad side of the barn...WE SHOULD turn to the RUN!"
Granted the run was not pretty but it was 100% better than Brock's 6-20 first half completions....and trust me the numbers look better than his performance. He stared at ONE receiver every play giving a dead give away who he was throwing to and EVERYTIME he is forced out the pocket...there is not a good outcome.

Congrats to the O-Line today for being the only positive thing today....and the kickers....GREAT KICKOFFS!

Not only that, our Cover 2 Defense was the most embarassing. We got passed on for over 400 yards against W&M....Does it not occur that we need to work on our coverage at all. Two players single handidly beat our coverage, their TE #87 and WR #19. It was posted in the local newspaper in Elon...A HUGE ARTICLE....about their game plan to attack our secondary....that the biggest give away in sports!

WE DID NOTHING! It wasnt til Spencer Landis got in that we posted a decent drive. And no I am not a member of the Spencer fan-club. Personally I think our best QB is the freshman.

Anyway, I am done venting, and if you were not at the game......i guarentee that the radio and stats do no justice to the pathetic display of LU football. Last week we talked about making a name for ourselves @ W&M...and this week I think we need to discuss how will we recover.

This was the first game I missed, and frankly, I'm glad I did. I don't think I would've been able to bear watching a team with so much potential play like this. There have definitely got to be some changes made on both offense and defense. We need a more consistently balanced attack on offense and MUCH better defense against the pass. Whether that needs to come from formation or personnel changes, it needs to happen and SOON.

turning to the run doesn't help when the most athletic person on the team is either on the side line or lined up 5 wide. GIVE ZACH THE BALL!!! and running doesn't do much when all you do is go straight up the middle either

you are 100% correct about brock.. he always gives away exactly what he's looking for, and for some reason he has not capability of seeing more than one reciever on the field, even though there are 4 or 5 out there. several times rashad was wide open but brock wouldn't look that way.

you said it about the D, there nothing more to say. they knew what we run and the weakness from W&M and they exploited us bad. if we don't fix that, we will lose the rest of the games.

Mike Brown is not going to play. he is being redshirted, and they aren't going to change that. so we may as well forget him till next year. if we change from brock, we have to go to Landis. and i don't know if thats a good idea or not. completing passes against the 3rd string isn't a great accomplishment, but after the way brock played i guess its better than he could do. still, even though he was terrible, lets not put the whole game on brock. the whole team was just bad except kickers and OLINE

If the game had any redeeming value at all, it was seeing our back up QB perform very well in the closing minutes.
Are you reading this Coach Rocco?

It's time for a change.
I am all for it, so if there's a petition, my name is on it.

From what I hear about Spencer, he just needs time to think and work and such, and our line has been pass blocking extremely well, so I think this would be a great move considering the situation.

I still believe Brock is the barometer of our team's success this year. If he can regain his confidence (which from a distance appears to be the problem) then I can see us really putting things together nicely the rest of the way. But perhaps Landis getting some extra time behind center will shake things up enough that Brock comes back on the field more focused. But you have to be careful dealing with the psyche of a QB.

But my biggest concern is our total inability to stop the pass. This has gone from a slight concern to an epidemic in the past two weeks. We have guys back there who have performed in the past but they are completely ineffective right now. I'm not sure if it is the schemes or the personnel at this point. It could be both. But until we find a way to stop the pass you can bet we're going to be seeing a steady diet of it for the next few weeks.

I agree with that statement wholehaeartedly EXCEPT for the fact that Wake last year found the same holes. GW absolutely killed our Cover 2 when we knew they were going to pass.

People have worried about making adjustments during the game, Im worried about adjustments, PERIOD
