bigsmooth wrote:sounds like SJ has it all mapped out. have at it. i hope you asked mr. lloyd if he knew he had to cook for a bunch more people or were their any offerings to help out financially?
He wasn't saying he was going to cook for us, and I never meant for it to sound like he would be. He was just saying we should come down there with those guys, do our thing, and then be around them, the same with madmat's group and Dallas's group. He's been telling me we should move down there since before last season finished. I mentioned his grill because I thought it was cool that we've got people starting to do that type of thing. He said today at practice he was ready to start tailgating.

As long as we do the sign-up sheet and people bring what they say they're going to then we'll be fine without having to do the money thing, unless we want to put the money collected towards the next tailgate.

Smoothie, if you or GMTM have any better ideas, throw them out. I started this thread so that we'd have an idea of what we were doing before the start of everything. Personally, before the thread started, I liked the idea of moving to the Ice Center, but everyone else has said they'd rather be with the Lloyds.
GMTM wrote:but some people don't always pony when it's time to pony up...they talk alot but don't really contribute much $$$$...I remember how the Spring Game was....
I have no clue who you're talking about on that one, but I'll take your word for it. You seem to be implying me, but I did what I said I would. Medic was even at the grocery store with me.

If you guys have better ideas, please let us know. You've both been a huge part of every tailgate we've ever had, and we probably couldn't have pulled it off without either one of you, so you guys pull more weight than anyone in this discussion.

Hey, you bring it and it'll get played. We'll have plenty of time. I'm gonna have NCAA 08, NCAA Baseball 07, and Guitar Hero. Anything else you wanna bring for PS2 is fine by me. We (me, Bryson, Jeremy, Filmguy, etc) plan on getting out there earlier enough that there'll be plenty of time for plenty of people to play.

I liked the concept of going over where the folks from William & Mary were last year- but you'd really need to change the mindset of ALL the groups to move tailgaiting to that area- and I'm not even sure thats where LU wants it to be.

Would be great to be near SRL's pop, but either way- we should probably look to establish something consistent for the LONG term- a spot we could come back to, year after year after year. (At least, until GMTM graduates- which should be about 2020 or so)

having said all that- with the family situation- it doesn't look like I'll be making many events this year- so you guys do what sounds good to the majority and I'll be there when I can!

with PAmedic cider, of course.

I liked where we were last year and agree that we need to be visible where ever we go. I have not seen what they have done to the "old" place, but can't imagine them getting rid of the place to tailgate that they are promoting for such a purpose.
If we move to another place, we will need to take everyone's perspective into consideration. If we can't come to a consensus of opinion, we can figure out a tie breaker.
I know it has been said that this is not a plan to horn in on the Lloyd's and it shouldn't be. He has been there for a long time and we need to maintain our identity.
As far as everyone pitching in, I am in agreement with Scorcho, I don't mind doing more than my part, because I do remember what it was like to be a student. However those who are not able to do as much as some of us old folks can certainly make up for it in other ways. Bottom line, we all need to do our part.
Looking forward to seeing you guys in just 4 short weeks.

Flameshaw,

Since you haven't seen the new sidewalks, let me give you a rough drawing of how much space they took away. It's basically from the tree line to the road.

Looks like the sidewalk has taken a fair part of the room we had. Another thought is that if they put the tent on the asphalt and we sat and ate on the grass, that may be ok. Don't know what the plans are, but can find out.

Regardless of the outcome, we need to stick together and work as a team to overcome this, I am sure we will. There are other options to consider as well. I suspect there will be much bigger crowds at our tailgates this year, I plan on bringing a minimum of 4 to each one this year. Let's focus on remaining positive about this, it will work out.

We are going to have a great team this year and we will have lots to celebrate, no matter where we do it.

Might have to get Barber to pull some of those Cockaboose's up from Columbia and we will convert them into something useful.

my thoughts as well

assuming we can clear out the few parking spots there- I wouldn't have a problem with that either- though grass would be much nicer.

and we'd have to figure out a way to secure tents on blacktop. I'd volunteer to drive spikes into the parking lot but think LU admin may frown on that. Killjoys.

SJ,

So where are you guys thinking of moving, it sounds like you're talking about moving to the right of the Lloyd's (if you're driving in from Hardees). If so, where do you envision the other groups also interested in making the move? Again, we'd love to in the midst of a big group of tailgaters, it makes it more fun for everyone as you know. I also realize that space is limited in that area. I wouldn't be entirely opposed to being off the road, the only problem with that is during homecoming weekend. I am coming back up a week from today, so give me something to vizualize until I get up there. I am looking forward to a great season both on and off the field, every report I've gotten from training camp has been positive, and just watching the Big South video got me fired up. It's going to be a great year, tailgating with everyone will make it that much better.

You guys would probably be able to move right by the guard shack and then have that, along with the little median back in P1. I can picture it in my head but don't really know how to explain it. It all depends where the rest of these guys wanna go though.

Super, since I didn't go to any tailgates last year (except for the spring game), I don't know where Mr. Loyd's tailgating spot is. Please explain, if you are thinking about us being beside him.

If, and it's still an if at this point, we move down to near the Lloyd's, this is how it would look:

However, Smoothie told me he has some ideas, so before we make a decision, I want to see what his ideas are.

There are a few ideas that we are kicking around...plus we have to wait and see if we can get that spot...hopefully we will have the answer by tomorrow...Looking forward to another great season and having the best tailgates that we have ever had...

ok. i was on campus after church yesterday and snapped a few pics of a proposed site. this site if you looked at the medic's map is across from the lloyd's. basically on the first island. i can envision putting the canopy on the pavement in three spots and having the grassy area for chairs and what not. we could go across the lot just a few steps for any games. the other pic is of the sidewalk and our old location. i have placed a call to flames club to see if we are able to block any of the sidewalk, so i will see what they say. i know everyone is excited, but be patient, we have time to hammer out the details. i also like the long island by the guard shack, but playing a game like golf would be very dangerous. on the flames club brochure that island as well as the new sidewlak area is reserved for tailgating for flame club members at the flame level $250 and up. as i know besides the flamefans membership, we have four others in at least that level so we would have five spots. i will know more from flames club tomm.

Smoothie, I think we were on the same page. That's where I had put ours on my drawing, except I used that grass, along with the grass on the other side of the lane.

are those little islands and the spots around them reserved? I was always under the impression that fc memebers' parking spots were mostly in the spots located near where you guys were last year.

Like I said earlier, it really doesn't matter to me where we are. Whatever everyone else thinks.

SJ, have you already bought NCAA 08? If not, and you were going to buy it primarily for the tailgate. Don't worry about it because I already have it, and can bring it up when I come, but I do understand if you want to get it anyway. Just let me know.

I can't wait, every saturday for the last 3 or 4 I've been coutning down how many weeks til Sep 1. When I first started mentioning it, it was like 6 or 7 weeks away, and she was like what? our vacation? I'm like no, LU football!!! She said, all you care about is football, and could care less about going on vacation with me!!!  I have to say she is kind of right  , but I would NEVER tell her that!

I am for wherever you guys want to go, as long as we are together. We may even look into having more than one tent, Smoothie may have already said that, cuz I think we are going to need it.
