But the teachings from the school are still heavily Baptist.

The last time we had "Baptist" in our school name, our current seniors in college were just being born--1985.

It doesn't matter that it's not in the school name. Every single religion class is taught from a Baptist perspective.

Wow, Casey must have had a pretty busy day checking out the football facilities and analyzing our theology department

Outside chance I eat my words on this one.

I talked to Casey last week and Liberty made him an offer. He was scheduled to visit again on Saturday against VMI, but Great Bridge made the VHSL playoffs for the first time in a LONG while and he will be tied up in a game with Hampton High School at noon on Saturday.

I'm not saying he is going to be wearing LU colors next spring (he's an early graduate), but he seemed more interesed than he did a couple of months ago. Maybe the Christian thing isn't such a big deal anymore (considering the scholie offer).

Quick update, by the way: Casey now owns just about every passing record in South Hampton Roads history and is in the top 5 of most of the passing records in Virgina history.

It's amazing what money can do to help someone change their mind.

We have a nice play to work out/dress. A good, growing student body, attractive females... it's tough to pass up, if I were an athlete. But I am not an athlete, and slightly biased :P

A shame for us/good for him that they made the playoffs- the gameday atmosphere on the mt may have swayed him...

thanks for the update and let us know what you hear.

No, it's taught biblically.

From the Tidewater fishwrap back about a month ago ...
Turner finished his career as the most prolific passer in South Hampton Roads history. Turner has offers from Liberty and Ohio University. But he recently said Hawaii, Purdue and North Carolina have also expressed interest.

It sounds like we may still be in play for this one. There is a world of difference between showing interest and making an actual offer.

Will be interesting to see where he ends up. Ohio is pretty deep at QB. Should have 5 guys returning at the position, with this past seasons' starter being a Junior next season. Should come down to where he thinks he'll get the best shot at PT. He may also get some late offers--January is an interesting month!

Casey verbaly committed to UConn. I know of one person on this board who will be happy about this...but I can't think of his name. Anyway, bummer for us, but I think it will be a good fit for him.

Turner, the all-time leading passer in South Hampton Roads , orally committed to Connecticut.

“I had been talking to them before, but then they dropped off,” said Turner, who also had offers from Liberty, Ohio and Army. “But as soon as they called and said they were going to offer, I was like, 'I’ll take it.’”

Turner, 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds, is a two-time first-team All-Tidewater selection. He finished his career with 7,667 passing yards and 80 touchdowns. He also finished among the top five on the Virginia High School League career leaders list for completions (first), passing yardage (third) and touchdown passes (fourth).

WAY old thread bumper here mainly because I often wonder about what happens to the guys who consider LU but head somewhere else. Maybe I'm not the only one.

Casey was at UConn for 2 years. He was #3 on the depth chart and didn't get any higher, although he did get to run out of the tunnel at Notre Dame (and then run back into it after UConn beat the Irish). He decided to transfer to Western Michigan, but that didn't work out either. [I'll keep the details to myself on that one.] What stinks is that the Huskies were hit hard at the QB position this year by the injury bug, and there is a good chance he would have been the guy had he not transferred. Oops.

He was a volunteer assistant coach at Great Bridge High School this season.
