I do know that tailgating is big at U of Delaware and McNeese State U. Colleges with good local fan bases and past success. Not sure of the other 1AA's but I never thought that LU had a good local fan base. It is good to know that it is being pushed to improve the game day atmosphere which has always been lacking there.

The reason tailgating has never been bigger at LU is because there is no drinking. If they let people drink, the locals would show up big time.

I actually agree with that analysis SJ. That issue is one of the biggest divides people find between their world and the 'church'. As much as we try to deny it I do see it as a factor. I always laugh when I hear the 'biblical reasoning' for tea-totaling....

I guess they never read Jesus' words: “And I, the Son of Man, feast and drink, and you say, `He’s a glutton and a drunkard, and a friend of the worst sort of sinners!’

That's right... they could have accused him of being drunk b/c he drank a TON of grape juice.

We could get into a huge debate about drinking but this isn't the place for that.

We started showing people last year that you can tailgate without alcohol. Our tent, the Society of Windsor, madmat and his family, and even some students over at LaHaye.

Next year will be even better. We'll have the tailgating games and all of the things that are common at most schools, except there won't be alcohol involved.

I don't think that drinking would ever be permitted at LU and really not necessary at tailgates. Besides there are always a few people that drink too much and get out of line.

Clarification:

I'm not debating anyone on this... I'm simply agreeing that as far as the 'public' is concerned this is a huge gap. The 'public' at large is certainly used to not being told what they can and cannot consume during a college sports game. It is/will be an issue for tailgating to take off in a big way. Having said that I am not on the board arguing for a changed policy...

Stevev...
Here is a quote to answer your statement:

"Do you suppose that abuses are eliminated by destroying the object which is abused? Men can go wrong with wine and women. Shall we then prohibit and abolish women?" – Martin Luther

Again, not arguing with you... just have never enjoyed the lack of logic in the discussions of this issue among 'the church'.

This seems to just be a typical way of thinking for LU and LU fans...think about it...LU Admin wants things done yesterday (as most places) so I guess I have to be understanding when the Fans want something done yesterday...even though at some point logic has to play a serious role and just THINK (kinda like mentioning the #1 player in the country in bball, but he plays at a "Christian" high school therefore we "missed out on another")

I like that quote. Permitting drinking on campus for alumni and locals would be considered a double standard of sorts since the students can't drink and I don't think that the faculty can drink either and was always preached agains't at Thomas Road services at least when I was there. I see nothing wrong with it as long as it is done in moderation and nobody misbehaves but you have to know where to draw the line as far as what constitutes improper behavior. I would think that most responcible adults would know how to act but there are always a select few that ruin it for the rest of us. This topic may need another thread for discussion here.

Those responsible adults find ways to hide their adult beverages at games.

Haa...he's #2 remember? Even though I think he's #1 (and is, in some lists)

But actually yeah, he's been mentioned as well in ways such as "if JM was still here maybe we'd have a shot at him" And those who say the RD koolade drinkers are bad!!! Thats the ultimate!

I wonder how ticked he would be if I put his number out for everyone to see...

I bet me, Sly, HMO, GMTM, Scar, and Smoothie could put it out there one number at a time throughout different posts and he'd be too dumb to realize what was going on.

He'd probably think we were talking about jersey numbers again.

I've done that plenty of times.

Did you know that if you typed p issed it changes it to "ticked."

It's kinda like "thingy" on the old board.
