My observation in the last few games. The secondary are very athletic but either they have low IQ or the playcalling for defense really sucks.

Can our defensive coordinators not adjust on the quick slants and curls? That’s there all day.

No creativity on offense to get our receivers open.

I’m waiting for major improvements. They play the same. Luckily against low level teams.

I haven’t seen any improvements. The penalties, defense not adjusting, play calling and KSalt over throwing his WRs.

Honestly I figured out this team isn’t a top G5 team very early this season and it makes these wins much more enjoyable.

Reality is we are not a great team but I do enjoy being 18-1 in the Jamey Chadwell era. When we were moving up to FBS i never thought we'd be in a position where we are undefeated and disappointed by our poor performance yet here we are. It feels good.

There’s a small chance we figure it out. Salter seems like he’s not the same player this year in a lot of ways. The O Line isn’t as good, and we miss CJ Daniels and Bedgood.

But with our defense being somewhat better, it feels like maybe some chemistry builds and we play a bit better towards the end of the season. Honestly Sam Houston and WKU both look like coin flip games based on current performance. Hopefully it clicks before then on offfense.

I get that we haven't been perfect, but we are 5-0. And before you say that's easy, because we haven't played anyone good - there are a only few undefeated teams left and many teams with a lose or two that didn't have the hardest schedule either. It's hard to win all your games. And maybe... Conference USA is getting better and some of these teams aren't as bad as everyone thought they would be. FIU didn't look terrible to me - they had some pretty good athletes on both sides of the ball.

They played on 17 days rest - yes Salter overthrew 2 balls (that I can remember) - OK... He also ran for 2 TDs and did a pretty good job managing game last night.

Penalties... They get a pass last night - the refs were awful... Many of those calls were completely wrong and we had 9 called against us and only 3 against them, when there were many times you could clearly see FIU holding, and their coach should have been hit with a flag at least twice for running on field and getting in refs face for over a minute each time. That blindside hit was one of the worst calls I have seen all year.

We had 300 yards rushing!! why throw the ball when we are moving the ball? QBs don't have to have 400 yards a game to be good. Cooley doesn't fumble on goal line last night, and we would have walked away with a 3 TD win... Just the way it goes sometimes.

That did not look good:( I hope I'm wrong, but he's probably done for year)

Have you heard anything about Green? Shocked he wasn't back last night.

Did Bush play - didn't even notice him last night.

Reece Smith's injury looked bad at first with the way he let go of the ball on the ground and the assistance he needed getting off the field. He went into the tent and came out about 5-6 minutes later without any sort of help and he was standing on the sideline without any support. I'm hoping it was just precautionary and he's able to get some rehab in the next few weeks to get his mind right about it. That kid is a baller. For Green, I'm not surprised he was held out. That was a hard hit he was involved in, so protecting him should be paramount. I expect he'll be back for Kennesaw St. on the 23rd, along with Jay Hardy and a few others. TJ Bush was on the field plenty last night, but we did cycle a bit more on the front 6 than I think we did against ECU.

Last night was frustrating in many ways. Last year's team had no issues starting quick on offense. This year's is an entirely different story. There were some easy throws called to try and get KSalt settled last night, and it just didn't happen again. He overthrew a wide-open Cooley in the flat on the first play of the game that would have been a first down easily. He also missed some other throws throughout the night, but he did NAIL a couple of deep throws (one to Reece, one to Mobley that was caught but he couldn't get his foot down and one to Sibley that went right through his hands in the endzone). KSalt can ball, but he seems to still be lacking a connection to some of his receivers at times. I really hope CJ is enjoying his time at LSU getting a few catches a game with no TDs halfway through the season. Dude could have been a STUD this year and shot up the draft boards. Now he's just lost in the noise because he has no connection with Nussmeyier or w/e his name is.

The OLine seems to be making some strides now that JP Flores is back. We are having no issues running the ball, which is good. KSalt and the WRs just need to go have some overnight throwing sessions on the field and work out some timing and situational scenarios.

The run defense last night I thought was dominant. Jahmar Brown appears to be a stud. That guy is fast, instinctive and he's jacked. I'd like to see him make it on the field more moving forward because he was just unblockable last night. The secondary had an off night, perhaps in part due to injuries. There were several plays where Q was yelling at DBs or the safety trying to get them on the right assignment. Not having Brylan back there hurts, but I think A. Jones went out at a point too. Something that has been bothering me is the use of Alex Oliver as the starting CB opposite Dexter Ricks. On deep balls Oliver rarely gets his head turned to play the ball. He's almost always playing the man, which is just ASKING for PI calls. Hopefully, we start to see more of Mo Williams and also see Eli Hopkins (I think HCJC said he might be the most athletic guy on the team). The philosophy last night seemed to be more conservative on the secondary - there was a lot of off coverage being played, which I hate.

Finally - the refs have it out for us. I'm convinced. Being there live last night, there were way too many ticky-tack calls on us. Weak holding calls on Jordan Hall, the non-existent illegal pick that was called on Canion and then the ridiculous "blindside" block where the FIU player turned his head and saw Cooley. They said Cooley "came back towards the line of scrimmage" but he basically took two steps forward and a half step back and then set his feet well before contact was made. The spots given to FIU without the reviews were absurd as well. Going to be hard to beat the best of the CUSA with the inconsistency on offense plus the refs playing for the other team.

I think everyone who watched the game saw how bad the refs were... Guess we didn't make a large enough donation to hurricane relief, so they were trying to make up for it.

Sad thing - that reflects very poorly on our conference and can't help scheduling games at home, when the opponent knows how bad the refs will be.
