I'm not impressed with any part of the offense. Play calling, running or passing.

Has the forward pass been outlawed ?

Yes, he was out of uniform after halftime.

Seems like most of our issues on offense can be blamed on the o line. It also doesn't help that our receivers can't get open.

Not having JuJu again and Copeland going out on the first drive has put the strain on the O. We do not have a Bedgood impact player out wide. Our receivers just don’t have any shake outside of those 2.

We don’t look good doing it but we somehow just keep winning. (I’m assuming we don’t blow this 18 point lead).

Couple weeks in a row the D has played well. Front line seems to be team’s best unit.

There’s not a doubt in my mind this is true.

Positives
The defense looked good other than one long play.
The penalties were much improved.

You could be FSU!
Are you saying we look good?

I’m very happy we are 3-0. We are perfect as a team.

That can be true at the same time as us looking bad.

We have room for improvement, but we won and would have won bigger if we wanted.
Our best running back did not play most of the game, and I really feel we never put our foot on the gas, because we did not have to. We will be fine, probably not undefeated, but play for conference championship.

Ok. I was a bit unfair. The defense did well for most of the time. The short passing was working late in the game. Maybe it was the play calling that frustrated me. They should have done the short passing early on. The O-Line was not impressive. The DBs did better with no PIs but they were not tested as much as the last game. Offense was not that good.

We seemed rather conservative, especially in first half. Opened the play book to page 2 in 3rd quarter.

The increase in depth nearly across the board on defense really showed up today. We really only had one long drive which was early in the game, beyond that the offense was on and off the field quickly all game which led to UTEP running 73 offensive plays against us. Last year's defense would've gotten tired and started giving up points late but they stayed strong all 4 quarters despite some injuries on the d line late. I'm not going to get too excited about this performance against one of the worst offenses in the country but it's certainly progress and worth pointing out.

Perhaps this is naive optimism, but I think playcalling will look much different the next two games.

Liberty has been a multi-TD favorite in every game so far. The offense has looked very conservative, and I think they've known they should be able to lean on their talent and size against weaker opponents. QB scrambles have been more/less turned off as well.

I'd expect we'll see some more creativity in the run game (plus Salter scrambling) and more looks downfield next week.

I hope you’re right, but I’m not sure. I would be more inclined to believe this if we won somewhat comfortably against NMST.

Three games in here are my observations.
1. We are better on defense overall than a year ago. Better depth across the board.
2. Offensively we are worse. O line is an issue but losing Daniels and Bedgood have really hurt too. We need to develop trust with a couple of these young receivers quick!
3. The next two games could be rough especially with our injuries. Don't overreact if we lose 1 or both.
4. I think we win a CUSA championship in a league that is even weaker than last year's version but we don't go undefeated this year and struggle to win our bowl game. This is not a negative just where we and many other teams are in the portal era. Tough to jell a new team together every year with half the roster turning over. New players might be more talented as a whole than the old but team chemistry takes time. Injuries matter too and we are getting bit by that bug this year!

Recruiting continues to look good and we have proven to be able to land good talent in the portal as well. Overall we have plenty to look forward to in the future!

Cheering for the other CUSA teams to get better too and trusting our AD can find us some OOC games that strengthen our future schedules.

Last year was great but I don't think the powers that be we let a CUSA team in that playoff spot anytime soon. We need to accept that.
