Think that Buckshot can pass on them, if he has some time. IF they play like they are today, it is going to be a long day next Saturday. We are really going to have to step up to play them close. Anyone else watching the game? Thoughts?
Army showed how to negate our passing attack...keep AGG from getting off the line. I can see NT getting really physical at line of scrimage against our receivers, especially AGG. To be competitive against such a physical team LU needs to figure out how to get receivers off line and how to keep Calvert fairly clean (moving pocket, screens, etc).

On that, AGG got pushed oob a lot against Army. AGG should line up a yard further in. He's physical enough to fight anyone.

They do have 6 picks against Arkansas...
Yes, but they were in a must pass situation for most of the game and their 2nd string QB had to come in as well.
Arkansas put in their 3rd string QB (grandson of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones) as well. UNT had pics off of all three. Arkansas is struggling at the QB position. Their fans booed when they saw their coach was going with their starting QB to start the 2nd half.

Keys to the Game

UNT
- Bully AGG
- Don't let the "bend don't break" defense force FGs

Liberty
-Hit AGG in stride and let his momentum break tackles for him.
-Use the RB corps to pick up blitzing LBs

Can't say I agree with that at all. Handling pressure is what he does best. He is not much of a running threat but he is really good at using his feet to move around in the pocket and delivering the ball. If need be he'll take the hit to get the ball off. This recap of the UTSA game from last year shows that off:

[youtube]YUgRRxXlq7U[/youtube]

Where we really struggled on offense at Arkansas was drops. Several big drops. One in the endzone, where we had to settle for a FG, and two deep balls where the WR had beaten everyone deep and they dropped it. First time I've seen that all year.

We've had trouble running the ball all year, but had our best game against Arkansas. Instead of running back by committee, we fed one guy. Loren Easly isn't a speed burner, but he is a tough runner, maybe he is the solution now.

I'm digging this whole, opposing fans that just wanna talk football thing. Especially when they are as well spoken, knowledgeable, and bbcode savvy as yourself and UNT 90.

Agreed. Smack is nice, but well reasoned and informed posting makes for good relationship building between opposing fanbases

Texans being Texan. Who saw that coming? Wait.

I am just anxious to hear SumItUp's observations. I suspect he'll have plenty of insightful opinions from his Arky perch.

This is by far the toughest team we've faced this year so we find ourselves in quite a challenge. As much as I would love to be able to drive up to Denton and grab some Braums before the game on Saturday, I am SO glad we have this one at home. We have a history of playing above our heads at times in Williams Stadium. This Saturday would be a good time for that to occur once again.

UNT is really sound and very physical on both sides of the ball. Arkansas win was impressive but I was shocked at how little UA looked - Arkansas is terrible or played about the worst football I have ever watched. Friend of mine was at the game and I asked if UA looked as small in person as on TV and he said yes, so it wasn’t just me. UNT plays poised and confident and looks like a P5 team in most positions. LU has O has to come out hot - and our D has to make some stands - LU secondary is going to have to play really well and have a short memory - Fine will get his, just have to hope they all don’t turn in to TD’s. Should be a real fun game to watch. TG is actually pretty good in the big games. Really hope Stadium is rocking for this one and wish I could be there.

Like many of you, I was blown away with the lop-sided score between North Texas and Arkansas aka bacon-bits. I admit that I am an, "SEC is the best no questions" type of guy. So, North Texas did a great job in winning the football game and not letting the moment get the best of them. What a great win for their program and I do hope they have a great rest of the season even when we beat them on Saturday :).

Couple of stats that I found interesting from that game:

- North Texas and Arkansas both punted the ball 9 times!!!

- 1 INCREDIBLE special teams touchdown by North Texas.

- North Texas converted 6 of the Arkansas turnovers into 24 points(3 TD's and 1 FG).

- North Texas had 1 pick-six for 24 yards and the rest of the interceptions were returned for a total of 41 yards.

A couple stats that is intriguing about Buckshot leading up to this game.
- He only has 3 games where he has thrown more than 1 interception and each of those games were 2 picks each. In those 3 games we won 2 and lost 1.
- Buck only has 16 picks and in 20 starts, which means he rarely turns the ball over.

Leading up to this game it seems quite a few think that it is a fore-gone conclusion that we are going to get blown out. If we lose and I predicted a 28-27 to loss, then I obviously believe it will be closer than the spread. I firmly believe we will not turn the ball over 6 times and had arkansas not turned the ball over at all your looking at a score of 20 to 17 and North Texas with the win. Buckshot will protect the ball and our offense will score points and make the game very interesting. This game will come down to our defensive game-plan and the pressure we put on Mason Fine.

Saturday can't get here quick enough.

Arkansas threw 6 picks last week. Buckshot threw 6 picks last YEAR. That is one of the reasons that although NT is clearly a VERY good team, the margin of victory last week doesn´t strike fear in my heart. NT is probably the better team, but for us, I think Army on the road may have been a tougher matchup. I´ll be disappointed if we do not hang with them.

I was going to try and attend tonight's Seth Littrell Coaches Show as it was being held at a BBQ spot (Rudy's for you Texans in the building) across I-35 from where I stay at for work every week.

However, the parking lot was PACKED.

I did listen to it on the radio and they only really gave about the last five minutes to talking about this week's game with Liberty.

And I typed this (his comments) as quick as I could ....

QB is very good.
Defense is very solid.
They're real physical.
This will be the best opponent that we play all year. [Yes, he said that.]
Just ask Baylor. They beat Baylor.
They played a Conference USA opponent, (host interjected: Old Dominion) and beat them (52-10).
Very talented football team.

It'll be a challenge.

Host: Your kids know all about them? (Implying that there's not a lot out there on the Flames.) Do you show them the Baylor tape?
SL: They've seen it on tape.
SL: (We told them ...) You maybe haven't heard of Liberty ....
SL: When I was a coach at North Carolina ... (he made reference to being down to Liberty in the second half in his first year as an asst. for Fedora)
SL: I think the most important thing: it doesn't matter who we play ... (then he kept talking about their culture and philosophy)

Great day FBS is more fun and exciting. Anyone have numbers on how many times we made Army punt? The more I think about that game the more I think our defense was quietly very good.

Anyway who is Gardner Webb playing this week? [/sarcasm]
