It's amazing to me that we were this bad when you consider the scholarship advantage we had versus other FCS programs. Usually when a coach's job is up in the air, you see some sort of creativity, emotion, passion...etc in their last game. I saw none of that. I watched an unmotivated team, play another crappy game with the same gameplan we've used all season.

For the most part, I'm a big believe in being optimistic. However, I'm not going to be a blind fool just because I root for a team. This is quickly becoming Layer 2.0 and we need a change.

TG’s stoicism doesn’t matter as much to us as it does to the men in the program. Negatively. Lack of enthusiasm is a sign of lack of faith in leadership. And a leader without followers is just a guy taking a walk.

I think the heart is in the right place. But a leader of millennials or gen x’ers cannot build walls around himself. It’s a new time. The Dabo Swinney’s and Jim Harbaugh’s of the world have figured out what this day’s young men want. Ever seen video of TG dancing in the locker room?

The blame still falls directly on Gill and his staff, but we actually did not have any real edge in scholarship players. TG stated several times that we had something like 75 on scholarship, but when you look at the roster and then go back and look at our signing classes, there are only about 60 who were recruited as scholarship players. The fact that they handed out scholarships to a bunch of walk-ons did not suddenly make them better players.

Would you think people taking jabs at one of your greatest accomplishments is a good thing? Especially when they have never come close or even have the capacity to come close to it?
No one has said it translates into coaching. But it is an accomplishment and it does matter how you treat people

Which to me says he was given a goal and gamed it. Did we have to be at 85 next season? I'm pretty sure it's a cap and not a floor. An army of JUCOs plus a larger class(21 vs 15) balances the scholarships between the four years immediately. I don't understand why this is so difficult. How hard is it to sell a JUCO, "I want you to come make a name for yourself. I am calling on you to join this force, be a leader with your work ethic, and make every school that passed up on you regret doing so. Luck is where preparedness and opportunity meet. I've seen how you've prepared, this offer is your opportunity."

Can I play in a Bowl Game?
Can I win a Championship (Conference)?
Those are the questions I’d ask as a player. As an opposing recruiter I would point out the answer is No in both cases for LU and Yes (for FBS) in both cases for my school

I totally understand your sales pitch. It’s probably what they are being given. But what did a JUCO that came in this year have to play for? Recruiting isn’t easy and despite protestations to the opposite a little more difficult at LU.

I believe Purple nailed it on how hard a sell they had to the JUCO prospects this year. It should not be quite as daunting this go round. They will have at least one possible bowl game and possibly as many as 3. Also a new staff who they know almost certainly will be around their entire career.

Obviously my comment was to those who use it as an excuse. How it could be viewed as making fun of him is beyond me.

If it wasn’t your intent to make fun, jbock, I apologize. I misinterpreted that.

Maybe I’m misreading them, but it seems many are knocking his playing career (Heisman voting, etc.) as a slight to him, and also sarcastically referencing his consistent glory given to God. I for one believe he is genuine every time he says that.

Critique his coaching all you want, every coach in the profession knows it comes with the territory. But I hoped for more from a fan base than that junk.

To be honest, most people where not knocking the success of Gill being on the heisman list. What folks were doing was sarcastically pointing out how that success as an athlete is not going to help with ones coaching abilities. Now is it a great experience to add on ones resumé for a coaching job, but not to retain someone who has mostly been mediocre during their coaching career(which was done sarcastically..big difference from demeaning a person). There is a possibility some folks misread those messages and/or went on defense mode for Gill(however you guys want to put it). What was just being stated is that Gill had his chance and he didn’t really take LU’s program to the next level. Hopefully Gill can get a position to be a ambassador for LU’s football program or even athletic department as a whole. I do thank him for his opportunity as the head coach, but we need someone else who can relate fully with the boys and still represent Christ and LU in a respectable manner.

I mean it’s more of a joke about the LU PR machine than anything else. My thoughts have been posted here on him as a coach, as well as a person.

Have the players gone home? I would think Gill would want to address them or the Assistants before everyone went to the 4 Corners of the Earth.

Would there have been a team meeting with no leaks?
If he’s gone will they wait till after Thanksgiving so there can be a meeting?
