My argument is based around the fact we have several WTF losses in games played before 4PM. We have also had several losses in games prior to 4PM with the playoffs on the line. We RARELY play a road game after 4PM where we are the heavy favorite.

Example:
2013 - We lost to Richmond and ODU, but we were the underdog in both. - both were 6PM kickoffs

Take a look at the away games where we have traveled more than 2 states away and see how we have done. It's not good.

You like sticking with the Gill era, so I'll just go back the last 4 seasons.
2012 - Before 4PM - 0-2
Montana
CCU
2013 - Before 4PM - 1-0
CSU is the only game that qualifies in this category
2014 - Before 4PM - 1-1
Indiana St
CCU
2015 - Before 4PM - 0-2
Monmouth
CSU
We are 2-5 in away games where travel becomes a factor in games played before 4PM. My perception was not to argue against games after 4PM, but to point out our lack of success before 4PM in games that have either killed our playoff aspirations (see Presby 08) or where we have outright lost the auto-bid (see Stony Brook, CCU and last year).

Let's look at your examples.

2012

Montana - Montana was ranked #12 and we were unranked. Not an upset.
Coastal - Coastal had a better record going into the game and was at home. Hardly an upset.

2013

Charleston Southern - CSU was ranked #16 and we were unranked. We upset them.

2014

Indiana State - Yep. That was bad.
Coastal: There were ranked #1 and we weren’t ranked. We upset them.

2015

Monmouth - Yep. Bad.
Charleston Southern - They were ranked #8 and we weren’t ranked. Not an upset.

You admitted we were the underdogs vs Richmond and ODU but failed to mention when we were underdogs in the day games. Of the seven games you mentioned, we were only the favorite in two of those. Of the remaining five, we were an unranked team going to play a ranked team on the road and were expected to lose. And we won two of those!

We had a string of WTF day games under Rocco where we lost games that we had no business losing. Where you are seeing us lose games to lose the auto-bid, we're losing to teams that are markedly better than us and would be favored regardless of where the game was played. Gill really only has two WTF games and they both came last year. His biggest issue is that our program was passed by Coastal and CSU.

The tl;dr of that last post:

Pretty thinks we're bad in day games with something on the line because travel impacts how we play.

I think we're bad on the road period because we're not good overall.

And I just hope we don't do what we did the last three times we went on the road for the first time to a Big South opponent

Beej - your observation is actually fascinating. I wanted to compare it to Coastal and CSU to see how they did just for reference.

Coastal

08 at PC: W 21-13

09 at SBU: L 16-10

15 at Monmouth: W 23-20

Charleston Southern

09 at PC: W 46-32

08 at SBU: L 20-19

14 at Monmouth: W 27-0

15 at Kennesaw: W 28-14

Conclusion

CSU did great in first time visits to new programs. Coastal was 2-1 but both wins were closer than they should've been.

What's interesting is of the three is all three were not congruent visits

Coastal and Liberty played PC at PC in 2008, Liberty lost and Coastal won but CSU didn't play them at PC
All three lost to Stony Brook, but CSU played them in 2008 which Liberty and Coastal played them in 2009
Liberty and CCU played at Monmouth in 2015 while CSU played @Monmouth in 2014 when Liberty beat Monmouth at home the same year

Jon, you make a fair point. I guess my perception is based on the WTF games during the Rocco era and how that has carried over to the Gill era. We all agree CSU was over-rated in 2013. My point being we lose games that bite us in the butt/ruin at-large potential and we lose conference games with the bid on the line. Ultimately, Liberty football is bad in away games.

We cannot...CANNOT overlook PC this week. I am sure the players have their eyes on the CSU game but we have to focus on moving to 1-0 again this week over PC before we start thinking about what likely will be the Big South championship game next week (since we have the head to head over CSU's final opponent, Kennesaw State)
